Getting rid of your whole LD collection simply for acquiring the GOUT seems like an insane idea to me.

Aren't the fan edits considered piracy?
Which... is why it's considered to be a good move by Lucas? °_°
Which makes me wonder if he handles that or if fox does, and then again I wouldn't download one anyway.

Ady: Do the Blu-Rays have burnt in subtitles for Greedo and Jabba?
I would like to know this aswell. And are the music, effects and dialogue in different channels?
Can you see the movie when you put it in?

Just picked up the Blu ray set today.
I watched a New Hope first.
And it's hands down by far and away the best it has ever looked on home video.
I also have Blu rays for Close Encounters, A Bridge Too Far, Saturday Night Fever,The Deep and Smoky and the Bandit which are other films from 77'.
And this transfer for A New Hope blows each and every one of those away.
Yay, "great" looking SE changes!
Aren't the fan edits considered piracy?

If casual users don't notice the obvious changes, you can bet they don't notice less obvious things like color.
Then why would they need BD? So they can continue to not notice things, but in HD?
Most mainstream buyers aren't video or audiophiles, they only hear "Blu ray, new? Awesome!"

I have all three 1989 CBS releases that I found in a yard sale. I just have no way to play them at all. Really would like to.
Donate them to me, I'll make sure they're played. lol

Never had a lasedisc player, but for anyone who has the Star Wars LD Set and the GOUT, which version would you say is better on an HDTV?
The GOUT looks far better to me than any of the LDs- especially on HDTV. That's why I'm getting rid of my LDs and player.
This is good LD reference site, I bought my Pioneer cld-d703 based on his recommendation (in the FAQ section):

Getting rid of your LD's because of the gout? Most illogical [/spock]

If collecting LD's is a fetish, does that make one a pervert? ;)
I got my Pioneer 704 repaired and refurbished earlier this year by these guys...

I had almost written off my player as scrap before I found them. I actually think it runs better now than when it was new! (The THX-1138 LD capture I sent to myscamore has benefited from it too.) They also sell refurbished machines. Well worth checking out.
Thank you, now I know where to take mine if something happens :P

I think George makes changes to the films to piss people off, and at the end of the day, he sits in his cathedral of a living room and watches the originals in pristine condition while swimming in money.
It's like poking someone with a stick, pissing someone off hasn't been so much fun.

I had the gout's at one time, but sold them off, now looking to get the real laserdiscs.
Okay. But, my dad might not understand getting a laserdisc copy if we don't have a laserdisc player. :-/
I know, I was just making idle chat. lol

Is owning a '95 Faces VHS set bought from Goodwill enough to qualify getting Dark_Jedi's DVDs? Or do I have to own the GOUT? I'd be more than happy to buy the GOUT if it's required.
Not until you buy the laserdiscs.
I don't have a laserdisc player. I think it'd be cheaper just to buy the GOUT DVDs.
You don't need a player to make yourself feel better about downloading fan-edits.......just the discs.
True true.
But what about the tapes I already own? Do they count?
No, burn them immediately.
But then how will I watch Star Wars with my brother in the middle of the night in my room? All we have up there is a VHS player.
You must, or else the self destruct on the vhs tapes will detonate.

Try it first if possible. LD is about 420i and VHS is about 240i IIRC. I have grown to really enjoy LD. You can't beat the Digital soundtracks. My player is a Pioneer CLD-D702 that I picked up via craigslist for $25.
Can't wait for my pioneer CLD-980 someone told me it's a really sturdy model.
I have one of those. It's a plain model, but it gets the job done.
Comes with damn near everything except for the original box.

Hmm, totally misses the point about preserving important films. Makes it seems like it's all about our childhoods, which makes us seem a bit - er - childish.
But, lucas raped our childhood.

Where's-a my-a pizza? :)
Must have been an older LD, most newer ones are wide screen.
No idea, but I snagged a CLD-980 for about 60 bucks.
