And I second Rikter's request for you to maintain the numbering system - you're like a Star Wars Criterion collection man!

That's the best compliment i could get! Thank you!

Okay you both win. The numbers will remain AND appear on the cover spine. Speaking of which (work in progress, still waiting for somebody to send me the zip file of Dolby, DVD and region artwork)

OK. Things are changing.

As of my next release things will be a little different. There will be no numbering system. Just the title of the disc.

All DVD's will have menus, some will have DVD-ROM sections, most will have easter eggs and all will hopefully be an addition to your collections.

And just to whet your appetites here is a sneek peek at the possible next release.

bh006 is dead! Long live bh006!

I'll explain. When 'When Star Wars Ruled The World' was broadcast in the UK, VH1 insist on having so many onscreen graphics that it sometimes distracts you from the show you're supposed to be watching. I find this really annoying. Enter SKot. He was kind enough to send me a raw TiVo rip of the show from the States (in it's native NTSC). Included on the disc were the bonus interviews available for streaming via vh1.com.

So, the plan is, I'm currently re-encoding the TiVo rip to eliminate the interlace problems (which also appeared on the Angrysun version. Is this a TiVo thing or was it broadcast like this?), giving it a PCM soundtrack AND encoding the bonus interviews.

This could be the first menu driven babyhum DVD. Watch this space, but i will possibly nuke the existing bh006.

UK : 5/9 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - The Lightsaber Makers
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. It's amazing to think that all those lightsabers, arguably the coolest weapon ever devised, were hand crafted by a British father and son team. Hear their story!

UK : 5/10 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Maurice Murphy
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. You love the work of Maurice Murphy, even though you’ve never heard of the man. He played lead trumpet on all those timelessly hummable Star Wars themes.

UK : 5/11 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Stormtroopers
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. Did you know that many of the Empire's crack troops were Cockneys? Meet Frank Henson and Paul Weston, a pair of hard grafting stuntment who played Stormtroopers.

UK : 5/12 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Nick Gillard
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. Nick Gillard is the man who taught a motley bunch of actors how to perform some of the greatest sword fighting sequences ever captured on film, and tells us all

UK : 5/13 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Warwick Davis
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. Actor Warwick Davis (Return of the Jedi) gives up the inside skinny on his role as the lovable Ewok. Find out who, or rather what, he modelled his performance on!

UK : 5/14 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Jeremy Bulloch

UK : 5/15 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - John Mollo
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. John Mollo won an Oscar for his costume design for Star Wars - and incredibly, it was the first ever gig for this ex-military historian!

UK : 5/16 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Nick Dudman
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. Nick Dudman started as a trainee on The Empire Strikes Back, and eventually became Creature Effects Supervisor, a crucial role helping define Star Wars mythology.

UK : 5/17 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Kenny Baker
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. Probably the most beloved character in the whole Star Wars saga, the irrepressible R2-D2 housed actor Kenny Baker, one of only two stars to feature in all six film

UK : 5/18 : 7PM : Sci-Fi Channel : Star Wars Episode III Unsung Heroes - Christian Simpson
An exclusive interview to SCI FI. Christian Simpson is an unusually dedicated fan. His persistance earned him a credit on two of the films, and allowed him to walk in Vader’s shoes – literally!

These shows are around 3 to 4 minutes each and are basically promotion for the new Episode III game. They are all repeated after the first run.

Request: Any viewers in the UK with DVD recorders please could you try and record these in high quality. I'm going to endeavor to do it myself and make a DVD of them but I'm worried I might miss one.

Cheers

Idea & Info: Return of the Ewok - on Hyperspace
Time
Do you know for certain that there is a negative in existence? My understanding is that the film was completely lost, and the only remnant left of it was the VHS copy in Warwick's possession.

I've been told by a very reliable contact that there is a neg in existence, the problem is, nobody can find it. It's probably one of those things that will be unearthed many years from now. You're also right about the Yoda stuff.

You saw this scene filmed on-set? Do tell...!

One of the advantages of living near the studios as a kid.

I've also got somebody on the case looking for a copy of that bootleg.

The version of ROTE available on Hyperspace is an edited version containing all of the relevant Star Wars scenes. The full version actually charts the story of Warwick getting the part of Wicket. As they say on the OS it is the best quality print that is available. There is a negative in existence probably in storage at the labs at which it was processed, but the cost to produce a new print would be very expensive. Not to mention the clean up involved. The film was shot between breaks in shooting ROTJ and were directed by David Tomblin, the first assistant director of ROTJ. And before any of you get too excited, the scene involving Wicket and Boba Fett on the Death Star was shot specifically for ROTE. It was one of the scenes I was lucky enough to see filmed. I think there are only a couple of decent copies on VHS and they belong to the director and the star and possibly a few cast and crew. There is a bootleg doing the rounds but i've only seen it once at a convention.

The Radio Drama DVD project (Original Trilogy) (Completed - Not Released)
Time

This project is purely educational and experimental. The final results of this project will not be available for purchase, trade or donation. DO NOT ASK FOR A COPY. The content of the final disc is still available commercially. GO AND BUY IT at http://www.highbridgeaudio.com/comstarwarli.html

The purpose of this thread is to be a tutorial in how to produce an audio (with possibly a small amount of video, read below) DVD of the Star Wars Radio Dramas.

OK, with that out of the way let me explain what I would like to do. Many years ago, at great expense, I purchased the collectors edition of the Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back Radio Drama box set and The Star Wars Trilogy Radio Drama box set. I found them in storage the other day and decided to archive the CD’s onto a hard drive to PRESERVE them. Then I thought to myself ‘wouldn’t it be great to have the complete set on 1 disc’. Now the .wav files for the complete set total over 9GB so until we get HD-DVD/Blu-ray/Hybrid that could prove slightly difficult. So, I thought how about producing a multimedia DVD, playable in your set top box, including everything on the two box sets, plus, magazine articles, photos, video footage, publicity material etc.

The final spec will hopefully look like this:

Menu driven DVD
All 13 Episodes of Star Wars The Radio Drama
All 10 Episodes of The Empire Strikes Back The Radio Drama
All 6 Episodes of Return Of The Jedi
Alternate openings and endings for Star Wars The Radio Drama
Original Director’s Cut from Episode Five, In Ben’s House
Original Director’s Cut from Episode Two, Leia’s Return to Alderaan
The Making Of Star Wars The Radio Drama
Speederbike chase, complete
Speederbike chase, dialogue only
Comments from the cast
Promotional radio spots
A tribute to Brian Daley
A Suite of Additional Music Recorded for Star Wars The Radio Drama
Image gallery
Press articles
Any video material in existence

The DVD will be 16x9 and in NTSC format.
All audio will be encoded in ac3 format at 256k.

This is where you guys come in. I have a fair bit of material associated with the Radio Dramas but I don’t think I have it all. What I’m really after are any good scans of photos of the making of the shows, ANY video material and anything else that could be included. Please PM me if you think you have anything to offer.

Please remember this project is purely archival for myself. I will not be offering this set for sale or trading. I will however reward any contributors with a complimentary copy IF they own original copies of the CD’s. I know this sounds a little unfair but this material is still commercially available. It’s a fantastic piece of work, so if you want it, GO AND BUY IT. I’ll even give you a handy little link: Buy it here or here

As always, comments warmly received.

And just to warn you, I have a LOT of projects on the go at the moment. If this DVD takes a long time, don’t get upset with me. You may even want to have a go at producing one yourself!

Regards,
babyhum

As far as i know, both the original and reissues have burnt-in subtitles. If it's any consolation, my transfers come from the higher quality reissues.

Description: (From vh1.com)

Few movies have reached the iconic status of the original Star Wars trilogy. A long-shot science fiction project that was rejected by multiple Hollywood studios, Star Wars (and its creator George Lucas) defied the skeptics and became one of the biggest pop culture phenomena of all time. Now VH1 is working with Lucasfilm to produce the ultimate oral history of the Star Wars years, When Star Wars Ruled the World. Timed to coincide with the DVD release of the original trilogy on September 21, 2004, this hour-long documentary will take viewers back to those rapturous moments when the whole world wanted to wield a light saber.

The show begins in the mid-1970s as George Lucas struggles to find a way to make his dream project a reality. Relive the incredible and unlikely impact of the first Star Wars movie, the sudden fame of unknowns like Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, and the way fans around the world fell in love, first with the movie and then with the action figures, pillow cases, C-3PO cereal and everything else they could - and did - line up to buy. Manufacturers could hardly keep up with the demand for anything and everything Star Wars (swamped by clamoring fans, the official Star Wars toymaker, Kenner, at one point had to settle for selling vouchers for yet-to-be-made action figures.)

The show will also chronicle the immense anticipation for the first Star Wars sequel, The Empire Strikes Back and the build-up to the climactic Return of the Jedi that had fans traveling hundreds of miles to visit the gates of the movie's set. Along the way, we will highlight the cultural impression made on millions of fans by Star Wars icons like Darth Vader, Ewoks, and Yoda, and lines like "I am your father," "That's no moon. It's a space station," and, "May the force be with you."

Hey Rikter,
I didn't know about this thread. I know it's too late but VH1 in the UK just rescreened 'When Star Wars Ruled The World'. I've recorded it and will release it very shortly (keep an eye on 'The Official Babyhum release thread' on this very site). If anyone gets a heads up on any other shows in the UK, PM me and i'll hopefully get them onto DVD for all to enjoy!

Yes - it can be done BUT you will COULD video quality - I suggest getting a player that can play both PAL and NTSC - You can find them as low as $35 at Wal-Mart OR get the Philips DVP642 - It's $70 but it will PLAY everything you throw at it - DivX, Xvid, VCD, XSVCD, MPEG2 VOB's and PAL or NTSC on the fly! NO buttons to push or anything.

I totally agree with Rikter. If your existing player does not play PAL, get one, especially for $35. System conversions never match the original. What i would be interested in is feedback from NTSC viewers concerning the quality of my transfers of 'The Mythology Of Star Wars' and 'From Star Wars To Star Wars'. These shows were shot in NTSC but were transmitted in PAL here in the UK.

Info & Help Wanted: Monty Python preservation - Help!
Time
I think if the source is in PAL, the final DVD should be in PAL. Most players are multisystem nowadays. The method I would probably use is using a Panasonic DMR-E75 DVD Recorder / VCR Combi. This takes the signal from the VHS and dubs it internally onto DVD-RAM for editing or DVD-R. I've tried a couple of old VHS's on a friend's machine and the results were identical to the VHS. As far as cleaning up are concerned, I prefer not to do it. The only set back for me is that the Panasonic costs about £350.00 and I have other financial priorities at the moment. Are there any rich Python donators reading this?

Description:

Transmitted on the ITV network in the UK on May 25th 2002, "The A To Z Of Star Wars: Episode II" was a 25 minute programme consisting of EPK interviews with the cast, documentary footage and scenes from the film edited to form an alphabetic look at the movie (A is for Anakin, B is for bluescreen etc.). I originally posted this footage in 24 parts on theforce.net in VCD format, and also sent some early DVD copies out to a chosen few. When originally recorded onto DV, the image was anamorphic but it had a 4x3 pixel aspect ratio. I have now fixed the aspect ratio and this version is a proper 16x9 transfer (thanks to Adobe Premiere).
Note: The original programme features source material of varying qualities.
