And, great job Baby Hum! Your DVDs are excellent! New covers are great!

Torrents for all releases hopefully start next week over at myspleen.net starting with bh001 and working through numerically. I'm working on the new bh002 as I type this. I apologise for the lack of releases but I just wanted to give you guys all the material I have, and that meant putting extras on these discs.

Now let me get back to work!!!

Here you go kiddies:

The NEW edition. NEW menus. NEW extras.

I'm not going to post the nfo. It's practically the same as the old one and it's included on the disc.

It's on its way to its torrenter who'll play test it then release it.

If you're wondering, the commercials are the Palitoy 'Return Of The Jedi' TV commercials from 1983 (Ewok Village, Mini Rigs, Plush Ewok, Rancor, Scout Walker, Speeder Bike & TIE Interceptor).

Enjoy. I start bh002 tomorrow. (Yes I've decided to rerelease them in order, but more frequently this time)

Indy3,
There's no argument here. Or competition to see whose version is better. I don't see any problem in there being more than one version of these docs on the scene. There are countless versions of the OT in existence, 3 or 4 Holiday specials, and countless other multiple versions. I look forward to seeing your project, but as I said before, it's not a competition.

What's the point of having various versions of things out there? I don't get it. Plus yours are all made with Japanese subtitles and mine are not. Both laserdiscs. I just think it's more confusing and annoying to have so many sources out there. Makes it confusing.

The point is, if I want to release it, I will. You dont HAVE to download it. Everybody has the choice to download discs or not. I don't download every Star Wars disc available on myspleen. How many versions of the original trilogy are there available? Do you PM every single creator of each set to tell them it's getting confusing? If you do, then I apologise. I'm giving people the choice. I'm looking forward to seeing your transfers. I hope they're better quality than mine so I don't need to release mine. And to avoid confusion, I'll clearly mark the two documentaries that do have Japanese subtitles. The two reasons I release the Japanese versions are a) They are substantially better LD's in quality to the US versions and b) perhaps there are Japanese readers of this forum who wouldn't mind getting hold of a DVD with subtitles, burnt in or not.

I agree it could get confusing, but I'm sure everybody here is intelligent enough to distinguish between releases.

Thanks for all your effort!

Thank YOU for those kind words. bh007 is being fixed/rereleased at the moment. If the myspleen version works on your player there is no need to download the new version. All of the content, bar the menus, is exactly the same. If you have downloaded the myspleen version and it doesn't work, Metallaxis is working on a fix. So you will have a choice: the myspleen version, the fixed myspleen version, or the new version which will be available very soon.

OK folks. Here's the score. Thank you all for your patience.

When I decided to rerelease my DVD's with Menus and extras, I adopted Sony DVD Architect 3.0 as my authoring solution. After sending my torrentors bh007 & bh008 I got feedback from people saying they had problems with the discs in their PC's and standalones. After much investigation and updating, I came to the conclusion that Sony's product was not producing 100% compatible discs (for me anyway).

This led to much frustration and my near retirement from the scene. I've since been working with DVD-Lab PRO and I think I've managed to produce a fully working version of bh008.

I will be sending out the new versions of bh007, bh008 AND bh001 to the torrentors in the next week or so. My apologies to everyone who has been looking forward to these releases over the past few weeks, but i'd prefer it if you had fully working versions.

AND as a little bonus to everyone who has emailed and PM'ed me over the last couple of weeks regarding the new bh001, the current contents are as follows:

Clapperboard: The Empire Strikes Back
A selection of 'Return Of The Jedi' Palitoy TV commercials
and quite a large easter egg!

DVD-Lab Pro gives us new menus!

Just for everyones info. I'm sending Indy3 my documentary captures this week for inclusion on his project.

BUT, I am planning to release the discs myself as single discs with a few small extras on each. That is as soon as I get to grips with DVD-Lab Pro after abandoning Sony DVD Architect (WARNING: Sony's program does not produce 100% compatible DVD's. I am having to reauthor bh007 and bh008 after discovering some people had problems with the original releases).

PLEASE READ:

It has come to my attention that bh007 and bh008 have menus which do not function correctly on some standalone DVD players. AFAIK these releases are fully compatible on PC and MAC DVD players.

This problem is being looked into. The authoring software is currently being updated.

Please be patient. If anyone has any problems please report your player and problem here.

Thank you,

Info: Quantity vs Quality Discussion on OT preservation projects

Originally posted by: Moth3r I tend to agree with none. For distribution, there's no point in encoding a cap from a VHS source to DVD res at 720x480 @ 8000kbps. It's a waste of bandwidth. I agree with none in the respect that it's better have a file in any quality rather than not at all, but in my experience in capping, a VHS or BETA capture, however old, at 720x480/576 at 8 or 9 mb/s ALWAYS yealds a better image than 352x480 @ 2500kbps. Agreed, it is adequate, but I'm a stickler for quality.

For archival purposes, i.e. keeping a digital master for preservation purposes, then I would suggest DV format which is lessy lossy than MPEG-2.

Totally agree. That's what my archive is stored on.

BTW, I've just got my copy of your Star Wars disc Moth3r. FANTASTIC!

Please be aware that this is not a criticism of any of the preservation releases out there. I’m glad that so many people are passionate enough to preserve what we can on DVD. This is merely a thread to collect opinions on the subject.

My opinion:
Whilst building up my collection of Star Wars preservation releases I’ve noticed a couple of releases that have found it necessary to try and reencode 3 hours of material onto 1 DVD-R. I commend the authors passion to preserve so much material but I’m a stickler for quality.

Preservation is not only about saving material, it’s also about attempting to retain the quality of the material. I would rather have 3 hours of footage spread over 2 discs.

Not wanting to blow my own trumpet, but when i release a disc, the footage is exactly how it was captured with no reencoding.

This will be tested soon when i hopefully release the ‘Science Of Star Wars’ series. These are taken from the 16x9 HDTV dumps recently made available. There will be some reencoding from the raw captures to get them all onto a single disc, BUT, if I think the quality of the image has suffered because of this, I’ll release them as a 2-Disc set.

This is not a dig at anyone in particular, but a comment on the scene as i view it at the moment.

I look forward to reading your opinions on the subject.

This of course does NOT apply to the guys and gals who are doing a valiant job in preserving the Original Trilogy. I’m talking about the documentary and related discs.
