A year and half ago I burned this BD set. I’ve watched the 3 movies frequently but not the extra content very often.
A few weeks ago I wanted to show my daughter a few things and couldn’t get some of the discs to play.
What is the longevity of the record-able BD media?
I’m thinking of reburning them and would like to solicit

I just watched some explanation / theory videos on YouTube. Darth Maul isn’t a Sith anymore and he is (most likely) the big boss running the Crimson Dawn? No wonder I felt so out of the loop during that cameo! I guess I really need to watch the animated series now.
In the credits the character is just “Maul”
Unless this is part of the story it’s all just pre-release clickbait though.
It is a plot point in “Last Shot” novel (Han and Lando). He and a Twi’lek.

Rey’s portrayal - in TFA she seems like a wise soul - in TLJ like a giddy school girl “the force is like moving like rocks around, right?”
** I popped in the BD of Last Jedi last night and for some reason the “Directors Commentary” played. The scene where Rey climbs up to Luke and Luke tosses the saber, RJ says he had no idea why Luke was there on that island. Didn’t he watch TFA? They spent a great deal of time (like the entire movie) looking for the map to Luke as he was on his quest to find the Jedi Temple. It’s as if 40 years of checking and rechecking to make sure things fit in the canon has just been thrown out the window.
I have a question. There’s a PDF that comes with the artwork for the NJVC set for inserts (not covers) that have the subtitle, special feature, audio languages, chapters lists, etc. I’m assuming these are little foldover booklets that go inside the case where the discs are. But they don’t seem to be sized for the correct dimensions for a Bluray insert. Are they? What are the physical dimensions of a Bluray insert (again, not cover)?
They might be sized for Criterion cases?
I’m still trying to figure out why I’d want to watch episode IX.
The novelization doesn’t come out until March?!

Silly question, but does anyone have an opinion on whether I could take my 6-year old to this. He’s not really allowed to view anything violent however I make an exception for Star Wars. I don’t want him to see Tfa as I find Kylo’s murder scenes a little too dark. This didn’t seem nearly as violent. Is it just me?
Well I took my 7yo daughter and she survived without any nightmares. Although she also saw R1 in the theater.
YMMV only you know your kid. i.e. there is no way my 11yo wouldn’t be terrified of TFA, TLJ, or R1.
After reading the Phasma novel, I expected her to maintain her bad-assness she exhibited in the book.
After all she killed Hux’s dad. I thought she’d continue to kill up her rank and be Kylo’s true right hand woman.
But alas she got defeated by a once storm trooper garbage man turned rebel, after 2 minutes of screen time.
Is she really dead though?
A couple of new “new canon” books have been published and they seem to follow a pattern.
They are bringing back to “new canon” what was left behind in subsequent releases/editions of the OT.
“From a Certain Point of View” is a collection of 40 short stories for the 40th anniversary of Star Wars.
From that book the story “The Luckless Rodian” canonizes Han Solo shooting first - well really only Han shooting.
"Journey To The Stars: The Last Jedi; The Legends of Luke Skywalker"
The book is pretty much “legend(ary)” stories of Luke Skywalker told to the crew of the ‘Wayward Current’ - a long haul transport barge.
It to mentions Han shooting first.
It also describes the footage of Alderaan being destroyed by the death star.
It pretty much mocks the fact that the scene changed from 1977 to the special editions:
Book quote “If you examined the footage carefully-which I’ve done frame by frame-you would notice that some of the shots showed just a brilliant ball of sparks while other showed and expanding ring of superheated material in space. How could the same event have two different filmed versions? Clearly faked.”
Take the “Clearly Faked?” tongue-in-cheek, as this particular tale was told by a character who believed Luke Skywalker/Han Solo/Chewbacca where constructs of the Rebel Alliance.
But it does poke fun at the other versions of the film.
Maybe there is hope for the preservation of OT.

I like the idea of reading the harry potter books to her one chapter at a time though, thats great!
Last year in second grade they read Sorcerer’s Stone. After each chapter the teacher had them write a small summary of the chapter. My daughter really enjoyed that. (So much that we were watching the movie and almost midway in she says “that was chapter 12”. I looked at her sideways and had to get my phone, sure enough that scene was Ch 12).
I finally got around to reading the series this summer and wanted to re-read. She also wanted to read, so we started Chamber of Secrets mid August and are now half way done with Goblet of Fire.
She really enjoys our discussion of last night’s chapter during the ride to school each morning.

I think it depends on the parent and on the child. There are some pretty mature elements in even what is the arguably lightest film of the Original Trilogy. Though they are all brief or off screen, Star Wars includes dismemberment, torture, and genocide. I can see how a parent might want to wait a few years, either because of their own values or the sensativity of the individual kiddo.
Very true. Those scenes could be skipped if need be. This is also the reason to break it up. A 4yo most likely won’t sit for a 2hr movie that isn’t Frozen. I think you can skip the objectionable scenes and still have a great movie for a kid.
My 4 year old daughter has recently expressed a big interest in SW, her two best friends are twin boys who are really into it. I was born in 80 so I grew up with it and have always been a huge fan. So today I started thinking that whenever I do show her the whole films (several years from now at least) I want them to be what I saw, the much less adulterated versions on Vhs from my childhood. You know where this is going. I have always resented the stupid things Lucas has added over the years so sat down today to find out where I could get the originals, at least without all the stupid cgi additions and reediting he’s done, in a high quality format with good sound. Impossible. So after hours of research, including finding my way here via Harmy’s stuff and spending a couple hours reading most of this thread, I’m here posting. I don’t have my hands on the files yet, but I just wanted to say thanks to NJVC, Harmy, and all the other people who have made it possible. I can not wait to watch these in my home theater!
One question- before I purchase a bd burner for my MacBook Pro, can I just play the files from my computer on my tv if I have a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and run it into my onkyo receiver? Thanks in advance!

What I did with my girls (then 4 and 6, more so for the 4yo) was to break up the movies in 30-45 min chunks. After each we would talk about what was going on. (I’ve done the same with the Harry Potter books, a chapter or two each night with discussion the following morning). With my two I didn’t feel there were any scenes that needed to be skipped from any of the movies.
They are 9 and 11 now and are big fans, the 9yo a rabid fan.
We did finally get to the Prequel movies (ugh), but they both read the novelizations first. Funny thing is that about 15 min into Phantom Menace they both noted how silly it was and that the book is much better.

The books mentioned in the post above aren’t “official” canon, they were published in 2004.
Does anyone have information on when these 3 novels will be available electronically in the U.S.? It has been almost 4 months since the release in May.
Also I noticed a new release of a canon book “Star Wars: Adventures in Wild Space: The Dark(ness)” I see a Kindle edition but no iBooks. Strange.
If I had the time this is what I would do… Make an inventory of about 20 box sets (just BD’s if thats all they are selling, the actual boxes and art if they go that far).
In the comments post a url to FREE versions and offer to mail the prospective buyer a copy (assuming they own the content).
Or just list them for free. Can you do that? I haven’t been on fleaBay in quite a while.
I finished watching NJVC’s blurays this weekend, but had a problem with ROTJ.
At one point, the movie paused a lot longer than usual (most probably a layer break). However, when the movie resumed, there were some Video artifacts for a second. After that, everything played on normally, with no other problems.
Has anyone experienced this with the 50gb iso of ROTJ?
I didn’t watch my 50 gb version of Jedi, but a friend did, and he reported no issues. I suspect that it is a burn or media issue that you have. I shelled out the big bucks for verbatim M-disc and burned at the slowest possible speed.
Wow those M discs are real deal eh?
How does a retail movie BD quality compare to these M-discs? I wouldn’t mind spending the coin on them, if its worth it.
I’ve had a few issues with 50GB discs. More so just the “mount” or whatever you call it when the player is trying to figure out what type of media (dvd/cd/bd) you have put in. Sometimes it takes up to a minute or so to make that determination. Sometimes it fails saying it isn’t a supported media. Sometime it just starts up aok.
It might be my player as well, as its an older (6 yrs?) Panasonic. Or it could be trying to do some network stuff.
In any event, after a successful load I haven’t seen any other playback issues with the 50GB images.
I burned to Optical Quantum 50/25GB BD’s and 8.5/4.7GB DVD at a relatively low speed.
I’m sure the chipboard slip case boxes are more durable than the v1 ronwilm’s slip case design, but I used Red River’s 88lb Polar Matte Card stock (13"x19")for the inner and out slip covers and they came out awesome.
I also used the 66lb Polar Matte Double Sided (11x17) for the criterion inserts and lobby cards. 68lb Ultra Pro Satin 8.5x11 for mini poster and envelopes.
It was a fun project…came out really nice.
