New Direction For The Petition

Not heart--just time. It's very precious these days.

A revival of the petition for a Blu-ray release is certainly a possibility if I were persuaded that the demand is there.

Oh, I am pretty sure that even all of the people doing these fan edits would love a high-quality preservation of the Original Theatrical Trilogy on a next-generation disc format (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, or their successors - if there are any - is there really a need once you get to the level of film accuracy? I guess from there it would just go to hard disk formats of some kind).

Is there anything you do like about The Prequels...

All we knew about the Emperor in the days before the prequels was he was an old man when he declared himself Emperor and by the time ROTJ rolled around, he was a very old man. This change in ROTS seemed entirely unnecessary to me. He looked wrinkled and decrepit in ROTJ because he was just old.

That's very true. He was pretty good and evil before he "mutated" or was "unmasked" in ROTS. Maybe it would have been "neat" to see him nearly killed in ROTS, so his dark essence would be partly disembodied, and that partial incorporeality would decay him over time and give him that phantom-like quality that GL was going for originally in the designs somewhere in between ESB and ROTJ.

I like...

- some aspects of Coruscant
- most of the chase through Coruscant at night in AOTC
- the asteroid belt battle in AOTC
- parts of the pod race
- the Jedi funeral at the end of TPM
- the use of ending scenes similar to the OT ending scenes
- pairing of similar themes, incidents throughout the PT and OT story arcs (not to be confused with jamming every other OT character into the PT)
- Mustafar, Utapau, Naboo
- Gungans and Neimodians (in theory only)
- Watto! (more awesome than words, especially with his little helmet in AOTC)
- Obi-Wan telling Padme "I'm so sorry" when he finds out she is pregnant by Anakin - that whole scene is pretty good, actually
- Obi-Wan delimbing Anakin and leaving him to die (taking him out like a rabid dog that can only injure others before dying a horrible death)
- the handing off of the children (minus the ostrich that Obi-Wan is riding)

and

- MagnoliaFan's editing choices, particulary in Balance Of The Force

Overall, though, there was so much potential for the PT that was just lost in George's vision. Very little seems to match the spirit of the OT, and the Clone Wars were handled miserably, as was Anakin's fall from grace and the rise of the Emperor (how hard is it to make makeup that matches ROTJ?).

Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

Bad news, but I agree with the post above saying that it is probably just in relation to the MySpace page and images on it. I mean, I think you linked to this site, so you would think that they would come here and pitch a huge fit if there was an issue with fan edits.

I understand your reluctance, though. Don't feel pressured to do anything you don't feel comfortable with. But, it would be nice to see this project realized someday.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

You could put a blue filter over every scene in the trilogy for all I care. That doesn't mean I have to watch it. That also doesn't mean I have to criticize your desire to want to do it, either. I might criticize the logic or merit of it, but as far as I'm concerned, you can do whatever you want.

If Neil doesn't like fan edits, that's fine. He doesn't have to watch them, either, though, if he doesn't want to. He has every right to criticize the ideas behind them, but if he doesn't like any of the ideas, none of the edits you make will please him, anyway. I know he's a big fan of the original theatrical releases, so he just doesn't like tinkering done to what he sees as perfect (or at least fine) already. And there is a good argument for that. But that argument pretty much negates something that a lot (the majority?) of people here think is fun.

Neil, there is a thread under "Suggestions and Ideas" that I started a while back that you might want to sound-off on. This site is about getting nice releases of the originals, so maybe your opinions about the merits of what this site has become might be more appropriate there.

Those jokes were totally scripted, and delivered so poorly that they were obviously scripted.

Two words - FAT NECK!

This is about the fat neck comment, I don't know if you know this or not, but his "fat neck" is caused by a lack of iodine and is called a goitre. Here is more information about it: The most common cause for goitre in the world is iodine deficiency (E01); this condition is commonly called endemic goitre. It is curable by mass food-supplementation with iodine (in the form of iodide or iodate). It is an actual medical condition, and shouldn't be taken lightly or made fun of. Please don't make fun of something like this.

If that is true, then I apologize for my previous comment. I don't like making fun of medical conditions/disabilities.
