I like the compromise shots!
I like the compromise shots!
It’s hard to wait for the entire movie because every shots look great, your technicolor recreation is totally different from the bluray
😄
This scan has very great dynamic range and level of details.
For the pictures I’ve posted I’ve applied this easy curve (but in linear space) to reduce the brightness
before:
after:
then I tried to reduce the reds:
I tried to match the brightness and sharpness of the bluray using the video sample with the DNR, the result is slighty underexposed and there’s too much green 😃

Here’s an update of the color grading to more accurately represent the blue panels of R2-D2, which were too purple in the previous iteration:
Great colors!!
super8 frames color corrected (very similar to your grading):
I like the desatured ones too!!
for comparison these are from the super8
Here’s my attempts 😃 :
To me the Williarob’s correction has perfect exposure and great colors.Using that procedure how look the scenes inside the tantive IV? The SSE is very red with green highlights
If I’m not mistaken this year the soundtrack of a new hope has been restored from the 1977 orginal lp master, but this seems poor for the 40th anniversary
Probably my attempt can’t be used for a reference but I like the high temperature on these frames

I hope the best for you and your family Poita. Thank you for all your contributions to SW preservation and in my opinion your scans are always awesome
Thanks I would grade this super8 when I will upgrade my PC,now I can't.
I have modify the script so it's more fast and more complete but sometimes the image is a bit oversaturated

This is the script if someone use vapoursynth and want to try it

I'm writing a script for a preliminary correction for this footage
I use vapoursynth instead of avisynth, plugins and scripts are the same, but vapoursynth can support a full chain in 16 bit precision.
After my script it's necessary to do an s-curve for contrast, vibrance, and again sharpening
This screenshots are from the original on myspleen ,probably the raw give much better results, and this is not only my script but a complete color correction

The color look good, could you post a video after the hsv correction?
I will try using it as a starting point

One solution for the artifact is copying the v channel from the original uncorrected frame,do the hue saturation correction and then paste the v channel
Ok!! I'm excited because this current scan is already excellent in my opinion and I have don't see any big issues, but I'm sure you can improve it ;-)
Wow! This is a very high quality scan. Thanks for sharing.
What wide gamut color profile was used for this?
I am trying to setting the black point on the reel 4,it's possible that the original footage is a bit dark?

Yes, sometimes is better do not aplly the effect shadow/highlight,I used very low setting : 2-3 for both
I have done another lut(filtersw) that is very similar at filtertemp but more precise in the color correction, the temperature is more cold.
here some example in many environments
The version .3dl and .cube is the same.
Thanks towne32 for posting this video.I like this scenes, in 1080p the color look very good, adding a bit of grain the effect would be very "cinema-like" !!
Yes it's true !! The v1 is more equilibrate and in many scenes is better, v3 gives sometimes a purplish-blue color cast that I don't like very much...in conclusion v1 should be the best choice ..
I hope someone can find these luts useful.
I don't really start any new project, I should move this thread in another part of the forum?
sorry i've uploaded a wrong lut.The correct version is v3...
removing the pink cast the red come back again....
