Turns out adding the Kylo ending has led to some interesting moments. Here’s the revised ending:

• Rey cuts off Kylo/The Dice Disappear
  (I think the Falcon TLJ ending might need to go, although Rey and Leia talking about Luke is a nice moment.)

Ben’s hand.” Rey smiles. She notices the old lady. Sees Luke’s ghost. “Rey Skywalker.” Leaves on the Falcon. Broom Boy observes and looks up into the stars.”

On another note…the place I had wanted to put the last Rey/Ben connection isn’t working. I don’t have a lot of footage of Rey’s face that would make sense for either the Falcon or Tatooine. It’s just not long enough/doesn’t show the right emotion. Most of the Pasaana footage I was going to use for Kylo won’t work because…of course…he has his helmet in his hand. I have about 5-6 seconds of a closeup that can still be used though. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think just a shot of Rey smiling right after Kylo’s redemption, while the ForceTime sound effect plays would illustrate it effectively.

Are you planning on having this only be Leia’s voice? Personally I think it could be distracting if we see her suddenly in a different location wearing different clothes.

I did. I really appreciate that! I could never get Rey burying the two halves of Luke’s saber to work properly but if you manage that it would be really cool to combine our two effects shots!

It sounds really good and simple enough to understand. My ‘The End Edition’ of TLJ is something of a similar edit and it was hard to find a super satisfying way to wrap up Kylo’s story

I’d cut from Ben’s face to Rey’s and add the force time sound effect if possible. I think it would get the idea across

I think you should have left Kylo being name Supreme leader and storming the base scenę, or part of it at least, when he grabs the lucky dice of His dad. Making him the Supreme leader for like one day Just to lose it all, would even make His failure more complete and tragical. And the moment the dice dissapear his from His hand could be the moment he truly realizes he Just lost and that Luke was right.

About Rey meeting Poe, i wouldnt consider it a set up necesarily. For me its Just the moment they finally meet After first 2 films. Its like “finally”.
I m also wondering if its possible to change rebuilding the Rebellion into rebuilding the Republic 😉

About the ending, did you consider maybe using the idea from the other thread, with the gang being on the Falcon playing chess (from the beggining of the TROS)?

I still havent watched the fanedit So Just out of curiosity, where did you introduce the flashback? 😃

Anyway, i Just rewatched TLJ yesterday and yeah, i think this movie could actually work better as the Last Episode than TROS. So much.

Your first two suggestions I had kept in when first showing friends and they just didn’t quite work for me, though I may still try to reincorporate some of the last Kylo scene in V2.

The chess idea sounds good and I’ll see how well I can get it to fit!

I put the flashback just when Luke and Leia connect through the force

Might as well just say “I will not be the last jedi”.

Other than that, it’s very good, shows how needless ROS really is, and we’re better without it.

Thanks for the kind words! I did try to take out the rebellion line but it just didn’t flow right and I didn’t think keeping it was too distracting when I watched it again. I may give it another go around in V2

Nice! Just out of curiosity, did you add the Luke and Leia training scene from TRoS to explain Leia’s Saber? Or are you just going to leave that as a loose end, for now?

I did and I think it works really well! I ended up borrowing skenera’s purple lightsaber for it and I credited both of you in the changes list.

I also have an idea for what you could do with broom kid:

During the sequence when all the star destroyers are falling, keep all the music the same, but get rid of cloud city, so that the only planets from that sequence we see are Endor and Jakku, and then in the space where Jakku used to be, add the close-up shot of broom kid’s hand with the rebel ring on it, followed by the close-up of his face smiling, and then followed by the final wide shot of him looking at the stars (and fade to black there, just as the music ends). The Tattooine epilogue can then immediately follow that!

Broom Boy likely won’t be in V1 but I’ll give this a shot when I’m working on V2 and see how well I can get it to work

Now you had mentioned having the two halves of Luke’s lightsaber which would be amazing. The link below contains images of a fan made version of the split saber. I’m not technically minded when it comes to this but I feel like the plain backgrounds would make it fairly easy to place into the shots in question with a little work.

UPDATE: I am nearing completion on the audio side of things. I re-scored and re-applied some sound effects to the interior Falcon scene. While I was at it, I touched up effects in the ghost scene at the end. I am about to commence work on the lightsabers shot and attempt to replace Leia’s saber with Luke’s from ROTJ.

Also, as per @Lifeincontext 's recommendation, I re-arranged the Falcon scene to it’s theatrical order of shots.

This is good! A couple of ideas:

1. I totally get why you rearranged the end scene with everyone on the falcon. You wanted to mark the closure. But I think it might flow better if the order was like the theatrical. I only think this because right now it cuts from Rey to the Falcon to Rey again. Just a thought.

2. After Leia’s “I felt it too,” why not just fade directly into the ending montage? The slow zoom out on Rey and Leia would work nicely as a transition, I would think.

3. Have you considered mixing the broom boy with the Rey Skywalker ending? Basically, it would cut from the ending montage to the kids telling the story of Luke, then once the kid starts sweeping and we get that shot of his feet, you would cut to Rey on Tatooine. Then after Rey says “Rey Skywalker,” you’d cut back to broom boy for the final shots. You’d have to adjust the timing of the shots a bit, but I think it might work well. I guess it depends on what you prefer for the ending, I guess. 😃
