Good! Haha, because I love a lot of your ideas. Though I'm going on memory, because I don't have a copy of your rough cut to watch :P

Thanks. I thought I'd make it more of like the cantina scene in ANH, and I originally used a jazz piece from The Clone Wars movie, but somebody I know suggested using that song from a James Bond movie because it had a more trippy feel to it.
You can hear my original music choice in this video:

Haha, I wasn't offended at all.
It's just that Adywan has his thing, and I have mine.
*Thumbs up*
Thanks! I intend to keep it up!
In the meantime... I have no new RotS videos.
I'm kind of restructuring a lot of things with the edit. Not starting from scratch, really. But kind of. I've gotten significantly better at after effects and stuff like that, so I'm going to be doing some things over. Though, it's nice to comfort myself with the knowledge that it won't take NEARLY as long for the second go-through. Especially because now I know exactly what I want for some things.
So while I try to organize all my crap for RotS, I've been taking breaks and working on TPM and AotC (but mostly AotC for now), and for that, I've got some stuff to show off:
This is an idea I got from Trooperman, I think. He replaced the footage of Obi-Wan's starfighter computer with Luke's droid translator from ESB. I loved the idea, but wanted to take it a little further

The nightclub scene! I did another version earlier, if you wanna find that on my Vimeo page. But this one represents a musical choice offered by a friend. I like the mood it gives the nightclub, but I'm a little hesitant as it's not Star Wars music or John Williams music. Tell me what you think!
Oh, and there's also cutting changes throughout, of course.
I totally agree. I'm a fan of Adywan's work, and I feel that - while I don't agree with all of the stuff he does - even if I made my own edits of the original trilogy, I'd probably prefer his anyways.
The prequels are a different story.
Revenge of the Sith... I'm really not sure how much longer it will take me to finish. In my opinion, it's the MOST broken of the Prequels. That is - it has the most stuff that I want to change. So I predict perhaps another whole year before I'm going to be wrapping up.
But I guess this is time for my announcement. If some of you have been following my vimeo videos, you might have seen this coming, but I am actually already working on TPM and AotC. I almost have a full rough cut of AotC, and TPM that I've been working on while taking breaks from RotS.
Thank you for the feedback! haha
Titus:
And yes, while Adywan and I share similar skillsets, I feel that I have no desire to collaborate with his projects. As Captain Antilles said - we share different visions.
mrbenja:
Thanks! The rest of the films as in... all six? Or just the prequels?
I have an announcement to make!
I have returned from abroad, and can now resume work on RotS!
I wish I could return with some glorious preview to share, but all I have is a simple video to share:
Non-comparison version:
Explaination of what I've done:
Shot 1 -
Tightened the shot to hide computer screens
Recolored the cockpit to match OT style a little more
Stabilized camera
Retracked camera to take the attention off the cockpit and onto Plo's fighter.
Shot 2-
Partially removed the way-too-smooth camera trucking
Removed the fake camera shake.
Replaced fake camera shake with more realistic camera shake
Shot 3-
Removed the zoom from the shot
Shot 4-
No changes (yet).
I'm going to remove the camera shake with each blast.
Overall-
Some color modifications and lens interactions to make it seem more like film and less like CGI.
MrInsaneA:
I'm all for leaving the conditions of Padme's death unknown. You're right. The mystery would make things more interesting.
However, the reason I don't really like The Cutter's idea is just that it's so jarring. I guess because the clip doesn't really... match the cinematographic style of the rest of the shots? But it also might be his musical choice he used. That's why I'm going to experiment with the idea and see how it works. I haven't thrown it out yet.
TavorX:
Thanks for your idea. It certainly does get me thinking, as I've been planning on totally overhauling the dialogue in that scene.
Ah right, now I remember The Cutter's idea.
It was just so jarring, I think.
And the reason I said things fell apart was because of how the ending is originally edited. But thinking through how I have it edited right now, her dying is actually kind of forced-feeling now.
So I'll explore The Cutter's idea, but I'm still not sure if I like it.
Right - it's either a mistake, or it's just really pathetically weak.
But... again, I really don't think there's a GOOD way to fix it. The whole end of the movie kind of falls apart if you take out Padme's death.
If somebody has a compelling idea of how to fix it, I'm all for that.
I'd love to redub Hayden as well, but I think with some editing, I'm satisfied with him in the end.
But I did mention awhile ago that I'd be willing to do voices for you.
Maybe I'll record an Anakin demo track or something.
Even so, it's a problem. Just a forced harmonization, I think. The only way to really make it effective would be to have Padme live long enough to spend time with Leia before she dies. Killed would be more dramatic.
BUT! This is a change that's impossible with the source material, so I think it will have to remain an inconsistancy.
I've got tons of ideas, but they're for my edit :P
But if you can find a way to remove the giant lizard in an effective way... I will forever bow down to you.
I'm not really considering REALLY radical changes.
Maybe these posts would be best suited for the Radical Redux thread?
Not bad ideas - just impossible for me, haha.
On another note - sorry for my absense!
I will now tell you that I will still be absent for another two weeks! *spins an obnoxious noise-maker*
I'm overseas until the end of July, so y'all are gonna have to wait until then for me to start up work again. HOWEVER! There are some BIG things brewing on this end. Hopefully everything works out the way I want it to!
I can't wait to share some of the newest developments! But alas, I'm stuck in Asia!
http://vimeo.com/44219864
I posted this idea awhile back, but I thought I'd make a proof-of-concept mockup.
This is just an idea, so the video is awfully edited, but I think it gets the point across.
I agree that the line is not a problem. He sounds incredulous, like he doesn't really believe his ears.
I actually have always liked the line.
Oh, Mithrandir! I had forgotten about your idea. I really liked it, actually. I think it will improve the scene in a really good, but subtle way.
The thing is - when you first made the suggestion, I looked at the scene and was like "ugh, this will be kind of hard to make the music work. I'll do it later!" Then I forgot, haha. I'll put some effort into it and see how it works out.
And definitely, penguino's idea is something I'm going to attempt in the near future.
That being said - I'm going to be very occupied for the next five or six weeks. I'm going to be studying overseas for awhile, and I will not be able to work on my edit. At least not in a substantial way.
Well, I'm glad people like it!
Any suggestions to fine-tune it?
Aaah yes, I had a similar idea, but the amount of work scared me, haha!
Though... now that I look at it... the idea really could work well. I just need to make sure that R2's dome doesn't move too much in that one shot. If his dome is still, and the light never comes on, the change wouldn't be so hard to do in the end.
I'll have to experiment with that a little bit.
Alright, here's the video:
http://vimeo.com/43686972
Enjoy!
Haha, very interesting point.
Either way, we still have a disgustingly unfixable love story. Maybe it'd be best just to cut the whole love arc out of the movie?
Well, I've been up for almost 20 hours now. Most of which was spent editing RotS. I'm pleased to say that I'm ALMOST 100% done with... the first 3 minutes of the movie! *Throws confetti*
But seeing as I have almost... 14 layers of audio and video in my project, my computer just loves to render at a snail's pace. That being said - I'm also dead tired.
I will be uploading and posting the revised-revised edit of the first 3 minutes in the morning.
I haven't seen your edit yet. (I plan to soon!) But you can probably color-correct R2 by making a simple mask and doing a hue/saturation effect. Just grab the blue channel and move it to red or something. I'm not sure what editing software you use, but lots of programs can do that.
Took me awhile to figure that out, but it revolutionized my editing.
Haha, that would be fun.
But I'm not sure I want to give Padme yet ANOTHER reason to hate Anakin. Seriously - she hates him so much in TPM. And AotC. And then they're married. :P Haha
Thank you for your input!
Your two gripes are my two gripes, haha. I'll continue to fine-tune those bits, but everything else is ALMOST exactly how it'll appear in the final movie.
(He's actually Australian, I think. Which is why it sounds like a bad New Zealand accent. Don't know why they couldn't just get a guy from New Zealand, but whatever.)
Right, I don't want to make it TOO jarring for the audience.
Thanks for pointing that out! I've fixed it now.
Yeah, I'm mostly worried about the dialogue not fitting his facial movements (as it already kind of doesn't). But a lot of the time, his mouth is obscured, or it's a wide enough shot that it's hard to tell.
Most of the dialogue changes would happen in the scene where he meets Padme and the space battle, but there will be tweaks throughout. A lot of what he says isn't atrocious, per se. It's just delivered by a bad actor - something that a re-dub with the exact same lines would fix.
A lot of great ideas! But something like this, I think would be impossible in a "traditional" edit. But perhaps a silent version with inter-titles would give you the necessary flexibility to make a big change like this work.
On an entirely different note, I've made my first teaser for work-to-come on Episode I, if anybody is interested. I'd like to get the ball rolling on this particular point as early as possible.
