What if TFA is awful?
Time

I don't think you have to worry about it being awful like the prequels; however, it's very likely that it will be a forgettable movie. The real angst will be to watch a contained story devolve into "what cool characters and plot can we think up next?" serial of the week. The difference is the same as that between a symphony and a pop concert.

I certainly hope not. Although, the prequels have even managed to have some memorable moments, despite them not being the most fond amongst the majority. Many people remember podracing, the lava planet, the clones, Darth Maul's fight scene, etc. I'm sure there will be things to remember in TFA. I already have the image of Kylo igniting his lightsaber in the forest and the crashed Star Destroyer stuck in my memory, and those were just from the trailers.

I hope we get to see at least a little bit of smartassery from Han Solo. In the trailer, he just sounds old and sad (I'm probably assuming too much from ten seconds of dialogue). I get that it's been over 30 years, but you can't deny a fundamental aspect of a character such as him.

Surely Abrams and Kasdan will throw in at a least a couple of scenes of Solo being witty or sarcastic. If not, Kasdan has forgotten how to write the characters he defined years ago.

Seeing Han use his gun lethally on a couple of bad guys would be nice too.

I hate to admit it, but something about the newest trailer has left a bit of an odd aftertaste. The camera movements during the special effects shots are too flashy and overdone, which makes it look fake. The color scheme may also have a big part to do with it. Who knows, both might just take some getting used to.

A trend that I've noticed in the three previews of this film is that it's taking itself too seriously. Cryptic dialogue, an unrelenting dark/sad tone, and a refusal to say what the film is about, other than "it's about Star Wars." Where's the fun banter? The simple, swashbuckling adventure style?

Still, I'm hoping for the best. I've put a lot of my faith into this movie. Whenever something bad has happened to me this year, I've simply reminded myself that this is coming out. My girlfriend cheated on me? Star Wars is coming. My dog died? Star Wars is coming. I got fired? Star Wars is coming. You get the idea. What ever will I do if this movie disappoints me? I might have to begin to care about something besides a movie! ;)

I really hope Luke isn't made into a villain or "dark" character in any way, shape, or form. It would destroy the point of his entire hero's journey from the original trilogy, of not going down the path his father did. Luke stands for redemption. He has a good heart. Whisperings and rumors of him turning bad in the upcoming film really sound like a terrible idea.
