LeoneNut,
sorry if this has been mentioned,if so I missed it,but is this project going to be 4:3 letterbox,or 16:9 anamorphic?
hopefully 16:9,but if not, thats cool,I can convert it for my 62' widescreen.
also will it be DD 2.0 or DD 5.1?
thanks again, hopefully the soundtracks will get into your hands very soon.

Yes everything will be 16:9 anamorphic, and the soundtrack will be DD 2.0 Surround. Love to do a 5.1 track but don't quite have the know how yet.

There is software and guides on that site that show you how to do it.
I use Plogue Bidule software to create a six channel wave file (fr,fl,c,rr,rl,lfe) out of a stereo source. Next I use a program called BeSweet to extract the 6 channel wave file into 6 separate wave files (fr,fl,c,rr,rl,lfe). Then, I use a program called SurCode DTS to load up all those individual wav files in the proper channel arrangement, so that it will encode them into a dts wave file. You can either create 44.1 (cd format) or 48khz (dvd format).
You can also use various templates inside of plogue bidule to get different outcomes on how your sound will be.

Edit: about the audio on HD stuff, is it the same sort of DD that's on normal dvds? Or is it different, maybe higher bitrate or 96kh?

The sky version does have macroblocking for some reason

Told you.

I'm sure someone did. Hopefully it will show up one day.

I doubt it. It will be superseded by the superior, h264-encoded, 5C-free version airing in January on SkyHD. Just like it's pretty much been pre-empted by the PremierHD airing (German language crawl and subs notwithstanding).

Proving once again that the best place to get American HD movies is Europe.

The Cinemax rips are up on the hdtv binaries group.

Rare VHS in Dolby Surround?

Only five or six copies are known to be in circulation, and I would like to get it out into the SMB/Nintendo fan community. The box says the tape is in Dolby surround sound, but my television only has stereo speakers. If I'm burning a copy to DVD, what do I need to do to keep the original sound mix intact?

Just rip the audio as a stereo wav file or compressed ac3. It isn't Dolby Digital, so it will only need the two channels.
Here is more info.

Dolby Surround is the consumer version of the original Dolby multichannel analog film sound format (Dolby analog and Dolby SR [Spectral Recording]). When a Dolby Surround soundtrack is produced, four channels of audio information—Left, Center, Right, and Mono surround—are matrix-encoded onto two audio tracks. These two tracks are then carried on stereo program sources such as videotapes and TV broadcasts into the home, where they can be decoded by Dolby Pro Logic® to recreate the original four-channel surround sound experience.

A result of Dolby's expertise in matrix surround processing, Dolby Pro Logic was the foundation for multichannel home theater, and was the reference decoder for creating the surround sound audio tracks in thousands of commercially available videocassettes, laser discs, DVDs, and television programs.

With the introduction of the Dolby Digital multichannel film sound format, Dolby Digital has replaced Dolby Surround as the preferred technology to deliver multichannel audio to consumers via DVD-Video, digital television, and games. However, every Dolby Digital decoder also provides a Dolby Pro Logic-compatible stereo signal on its analog outputs.

From IMDB:

In the UK, two cuts were made. One is of Lea Thompson pulling a condom out of Howard's wallet, the other is of the bad guy sticking his tongue in a car cigarette lighter socket to recharge himself.

When I get off from work, I'll go home and watch the Sky SD widescreen rip and see if it has those cuts or not.
