Legend - Lost 125 min Director's cut (Released)

They appear right after Lily touches the unicorn intercut with her getting lectured by Jack. If someone wanted to restore the opening, they could use those shots as a reference.

There's also some shots from the alternate intro in the current intro. Some shots at the beginning with the deer and the bear. Also shots of Blix stalking something.

OK, I've just read Sean Murphy's breakdown of the DC, and I see there's a lot more scenes I had missed. I've printed it out and am gonna update my list over the weekend.

Any takers yet on tackling this project. I could try, but I would need a lot of help; like what editing software to use, how to convert PAL to NTSC, and most importantly, what music cues to use in the AC scenes. I don't have a soundtrack.

Thanx Sean, your faq has been an invaluable resource of information over the years. If this project ever gets off the ground, it would be nice to know that we could count on you for advice.

Here's a breakdown of the scenes unique to the AC, I'll keep adding to this post as more scenes are found.

1. When Lilly first meets Jack, there's a short shot of him speaking/whistling to a bird. Lilly says 'you're so clever'
11:22 - 11:24 2sec. This would slot in at 11:40 in the DC.

2. Right after Jack and Lilly meet, there's a scene of Jack helping Lilly across a stream. The tail end of this scene is in the DC.
11:30 - 11:49 19sec. This would slot in at 12:30 in the DC.

3. There's a longer intro into the Lilly kissing Jack scene where you see her walk up to him and kneel down.
19:00 - 19:14 14sec. This would slot in at 23:41 in the DC.

4. When the whole Winter transformation is happening, there's a shot of a tree being hit by lightning.
20:40 - 20:42 2sec. This would slot in at 25:41 in the DC.

5. The actual moment of the Alicorn being hewn off by blix is missing in the DC.
21:14 - 21:16 2sec. This would slot in at 26:27 in the DC.

6. Jack stumbling around in a blizzard, calling out to Lilly, after the Goblins leave Nell's.
24:34 - 25:21 47sec. This would slot in at 30:26 in the DC.

7. Jack and Gump are attacked by Pygmies in Darkness' dungeons.
54:22 - 55:13 51sec. This would slot in at 1:11:04 in the DC.

8. In Lilly's dance with the Demon Dress at the very moment that Lilly and the Dress become one, there's a flash of magic.
58:50 - 58:51 1sec. This would slot in at 1:15:44 in the DC.

9. When Darkness is tempting Lilly at the dinner table, there's a shot of a black apple and a glass magically filling with wine/blood.
1:11:33 - 1:11:57 24sec. This would slot in at 1:27:47 in the DC.

10. After the battle with Darkness, there is a montage of scenes showing Gump restoring the Alicorn to the Unicorn. They are interspersed with Jack recovering the ring, which is in the DC.
1:21:42 - 1:21:45 3sec
1:22:02 - 1:22:11 9sec
1:22:36 - 1:22:56 20sec
1:23:04 - 1:23:14 10sec
1:23:19 - 1:23:33 14sec
56sec. This would slot in between 1:42:56 & 1:48:45 in the DC.

Total = 3.5min

All I can remember in the EC is the scene of Oona spying on Lilly just before the Demon Dress dance, saying 'Look at your princess now'.

Hey Knightmessenger, I hadn't noticed the 'Jack helping Lilly across the stream' scene. Thanx, will check it out tonight.
The 'glasses filling up' scene is part of what I call the 'Black apple' scene; Darkness at the Dining room table speaking to Lilly, while his glaas of wine fills up. The apple from the poster artwork is shown in this scene.
There's also a scene which I call the 'Blizzard' scene; Lilly fumbling about in the snow just before she gets to Nell's house.
Also lots of little 1 or 2 second clips; a tree being struck by lightning during the winter transformation, the actual shot of the Alicorn being hewn off, etc.
All I can remember from the European cut that's unique was a scene where Oona is spying on Lilly dancing with the Black Dress. She says something like 'If Jack could see you now'
The alternate intro is important, as it sets up the 'big horn wrapped around the tree' and also explains Blunder's chicken claw. It's also a much cooler intoduction to Darkness. Yes, it's in a bad state, but maybe someone can clean it up a bit?

Legend - Lost 125 min Director's cut (Released)

Sorry if the title of this topic is misleading. Let me explain. There were 3 cuts made of Legend before the 2 theatrical releases:

140 min workprint - This is the print that Jerry Goldsmith scored; a score that he considered his fave and best. Presumabely lost.

125 min cut - This was the cut with the '4 goblins' intro and probably most of the footage from all current existing versions. This is the version that could be replicated by doing the above proposal. This cut is lost, so a fan edit would be the only way to see it.

113 min Director's cut - This is the cut that Ridley screened for a test audience, got some sniggering in the back, panicked and recut the whole thing. This cut was found in the UK and was released on DVD in the US.

Legend - Lost 125 min Director's cut (Released)

Been scouring this forum, and found it quite amazing that no one has mentioned a Legend Director’s cut. I’ve done some homework on this project, but lack the Hardware/Software/Skills to attempt it myself. If anyone’s interested in tackling this project, I would be more than happy to help out with the research I’ve done. Basically what I have in mind is:

The current Director’s cut

  • all the unique footage from the American version, including but not limited to the:
    ‘Pygmy’ sequence,
    ‘Restoring the Alicorn’ sequence
‘Black apple at the dining table’ sequence
  • a short 5 second shot from the European version where Oona is watching Princess Lilly during the ‘Demon Dress’ sequence
  • replace the Director’s cut intro with the video footage of the alternate ‘4 goblins’ intro
  • add the ‘Jack Dance’ in story board mode with some of the raw footage of Gump playing his fiddle from the Making of Featurette.

The American version sequences have the Tangerine Dream score, so this would have to be replaced with music cues from the Jerry Goldsmith Soundtrack.

I have all the timeslots of where the extra footage is to be found as where in the Director’s cut they should be inserted.

Any takers?

The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Director's Cut (Released)
Time
Finished downloading recobbled cut yesterday. Planed a Recobbled night with 3 of my mates. I've been explaining the whole story for them , since I found this thread. They were just as excited to see the results as I was. Right off, I realised this was 'version 1' since it only had the Arabian Knight and recobbled trailers. Disappointed but still excited. So we watched both trailers first, then Garret's intro, which really hit home the terrible injustices this movie suffered. This was all for the benefit of my friends, I was just dying to get started. So we pressed play and were just amazed. It was breathtaking. At the end, all we could say was 'Hurry the @#$%^ up, Disney, and get this thing fixed'. Anyway, I'm so in the Zone now that I'm gonna try and get the whole multi-disc set from Garret. Man, this movie needs to be recognised by the world. Not only should Disney finish this movie, they should release it on the big screen in a big way, full marketing, academy nominations, the works. People must know!!!!!!

The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Director's Cut (Released)
Time
Greetings from sunny crime-ridden Johannesburg, South Africa. First time poster here.
First of all, well done to Garret and all those who helped. Brilliant job on the recobbled cut. Sounds amazing. Haven't seen it yet, but am busy downloading (at about 50% already). I came across this thread beginning of the week, and have been glued to it, reading all 81 pages in 4 days. I feel like quite the expert on the subject now. Amazing, the amount of things that has come your way, because of this thread and your excellent work. Anyway, reason I'm chiming in is just to give you a little piece of trivia. I keep reading how Calvert's first cut was named 'The Princess and the Cobbler' and only released in Australia and South Africa. Ok, first of all, I don't recall a theatrical release here in S.A. But, the vhs copy at my video store is definately not called 'The Princess and the Cobbler'. It's called 'The Thief and the Cobbler'. Look, it's definately the 'princess' cut, as far as i can tell from your discriptions of it : witch scene, war machine sequence, silent thief, etc. But the box definately says 'Thief', not 'Princess'. Weird, ha?
