Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Must've been like that in Puggo's version since Harmy's is timed to that one?

Btw Harmy, about encoding: I checked mediainfo on the last preview and saw this line:

Format profile                   : Main@L4.1

I remember the movies I have which are sourced from blu-ray almost every time says High@L4.1, so I thought what's the difference, and is it something to think about when doing your final encode?

I googled around and found this:

The AVC/H.264 standard defines four different Profiles: Baseline, Main, Extended and High Profile (which themselves are subdivided into Levels):

- Baseline Profile offers I/P-Frames, supports progressive and CAVLC only
- Extended Profile offers I/P/B/SP/SI-Frames, supports progressive and CAVLC only
- Main Profile offers I/P/B-Frames, supports progressive and interlaced, and offers CAVLC or CABAC
- High Profile (aka FRExt) adds to Main Profile: 8x8 intra prediction, custom quants, lossless video coding, more yuv formats (4:4:4...)

From what I understand of this, High is used more often because of the added features and color formats. My renders were done in High 4.1 so converting them to Main might be bad? I don't know, just thought I'd tell you.

Oh, too bad. Nobody here is in a hurry though. We'd rather see you take your time to make sure this becomes the best version of SW ever. (since the original of course)

Btw, I noticed one color inconsistency in this Greedo scene:

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7402/82164765.th.pnghttp://img600.imageshack.us/img600/739/53857207.th.pnghttp://img266.imageshack.us/img266/6606/82625697.th.png

Not extremely important, but in case you'll color all cantina scenes like the Greedo scene, it might be something to consider changing.

I'd definitely stay with the old version instead of the masked one. In the second shot it's very visible that it was masked, and in both of them the blacks are pushed down too much.

The most neutral-looking shot in my opinion is the bottom-right in the 4 pic comparison there. That's probably the look you should go for in the rest of the scene if you want it to have a neutral look.

The new preview looks great, except for one thing: You raised the shadows and gave them a tint of cyan. I know the shadows are slightly blue-tinted in Mike's shot but it was the same with other shots he posted. It's simply because he hadn't color corrected them yet.

A couple comparisons with my render vs this preview:

Han's boot looks green instead of black now. And while the tweak looks better on the shot of Greedo, the cyan shadows are still there.

Try this approach instead: use curves and make a middle point (x127 y127) on green and blue and move them slightly to the left and find some balance. That will be able to make Greedo more green but leave shadows and whites intact.

I see you've even added that almost not visible transparent background behind the text. I'd say though, that without having any clean reference frames of the other lines we wouldn't know how it should look there. Like for example "Jabba's put a price..." has two lines, and we don't know if the transparent background was cut where the first line is shorter.

On the other hand I know nothing about optical subs, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Harmy said:

I've seen countless subtitled films theatrically and I remember this effect being there but as it seems it wasn't there in this case, and since we're getting closer and closer to the actual theatrical subs, I think I'll take it out.

Good choice. The blue glow you had around the subs probably shouldn't be there either, since I think that's just an effect of the overexposure of the whites in that senator screening capture. I guess that's where you got that idea?

Anyway, I'll continue working on the subs now! :)

And I'll check the last preview you posted as soon as megaupload allows me to.

Finally, the link works! I've tried all day to download the new preview clip but it has been unavailable. Megaupload is weird sometimes.

Anyway, it looks fantastic. You used my render for that part?

By the way, I found a couple other spots where Vader's button and lights are not green. In this scene it's a bit cyan-ish at some parts:

And here it's blue just like in the duel scene:

Ultimate Trilogy Set
Time

The ultimate set for me would simply be all theatrical versions properly cleaned up and restored to the original color timing, with all of the dynamicness of the picture preserved.

I understand the idea of the thread though, but considering that we might not even see a proper release of the original theatrical versions of each film in the near future, (and even more unlikely, properly restored) the hope of seeing a release of EVERY version is like non-existent.
