regrading/editing original trilogy using blu-rays and german hdtv streams to remove bad but not all specialised/blu-ray changes (* unfinished project *)

Talking of the DNRed TPM blu-ray transfer, I was looking on google and came across what look like screencaps here: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/star-wars-the-phantom-menace/images/27341708/title/phantom-menace-screencaps-screencap .The quality of these look nice and filmic, with clearly noticable grain.

Except this shot: http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/27300000/Phantom-Menace-screencaps-star-wars-the-phantom-menace-27341714-1280-720.jpg

That's some heavy DNR and EE all over the place.

Incidently, from what I have read, it seems the cinema transfer is identical to the blu-ray and has been DNRed to high heaven. It'd imagine that that DNR must be pretty painful to watch all enlarged on the cinema screen, especially in 3D...

Unfortunately, the mainstream doesn't care about it. Many people seem to think it looks good when all detail in a picture is smudged. Sad but true.

I remember when reading about Predator ultimate hunter edition on blu-ray. (You probably know it's one of the worst cases.) One customer on a site here in sweden wrote "The DNR is in my opinion a fantastic solution which I would love to see in more movies/releases."

Yeah, if there's anyone who at least knows italian, maybe you could ask in some italian Star Wars forum if they could rip the subs from their GOUT discs or something.

@none: That's for the SE DVDs. I can instantly tell that because it doesn't include the crawl. I've searched around all the web and only found SE DVD italian subs.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Watched the whole WP now. You've come a long way Harmy, I thought it looked stunning before and it's even more stunning this time.

The only things I noticed that I wanted to point out, (with no offense of course because I know how difficult it is) are these:

Frame 6087-6088: Picture gets slightly brighter and more yellow.

16307-16308: Already mentioned, that the color changes in this wipe between these frames. I have an idea for how to fix it though. You could render two versions of this wipe with each color timing and then rotoscope them together?

And finally, in the "look sir, droids" scene, the hatch in the background is grey.

And to everyone who talks about inconsistency in colors between shots: The original IS like that. Harmy tries to take us back to the original. :)

Actually I ripped the CZ subs from the SE DVD, removed the special edition-added lines, and synchronized the new track with English subtitles ripped from the GOUT. I have also done Slovak subtitles but only for Greedo's lines - I was lazy :-)

That sounds good enough. Did you also change the lines that are different? Like in ESB when the swamp monster spits out R2 and Luke's line is changed. And also, does the subs include the crawl?

By the way, are you the same pittrek who did the Queen at Earls court remaster? I got those DVDs a few years back and really enjoyed them.

They can't be from the GOUT, because the GOUT never came out here. I would have offered you Czech subs myself but I don't have any that I trust to be correct.

Oh, I see. But maybe it was released in some neighbor country where they included subs in Czech?

Anyway, to everyone who wants to contribute: Make sure the subs are good, and preferably ripped from the GOUT discs. Usually, the subs found on subscene and such sites are fanmade, full of typos and errors, and are most likely translated from the SE DVDs.

Info: My attempt at color correcting the GOUT (Outdated thread - though lots of info)
Time

Actually, this thread is very outdated now, since I've rewritten all scripts to use for DJ's blu V2. And even though it's one setting for the whole movies, even that part you mention looks good, and not out of place. And I wasn't aiming for perfection either, since that would require a shot by shot correction.

@CatBus: Of course I'd probably prefer getting the subs unchanged, but if your tweaks aren't anything major I guess it could be ok. Send me a pm!

@Doctor M: Thanks for the tip! I don't think we'll need to do it that way after all though.

It seems I had saved the character matrix file from when I captured the swedish subs from the PAL version of each film, so I tried using it again to capture more languages and it worked fine and I could easily correct some small errors and synch it using the timing of my synched swedish subs.

So now it seems the BDs will also include danish, finnish and norwegian subs.

It's very time consuming to do optical character recognition and manual correction.

The best thing, I guess, would be if people could contribute with each language's subs that they want to be included. Of course, those subs will be put on the BD as is, which means if they aren't corrected they'll be on the BD just as bad as they are.

If sending us subs, make sure they're in srt-format and synched to the NTSC GOUT. (It also works if they're synched to Harmy's despecialized editions)

I recently had a chance to see screens from a professionally scanned 77 print of STAR WARS and the contrast was surprisingly high, especially in darker shots.

I think that depends on how the exposure is set when scanning.

Some of the 70mm scans on jedi1.net are scanned in a way that crushes whites but reveals more shadow detail for example.

It would have to be a room near Merseyside though. I'm just making sure the logistics all work out.

Already 3 people joining me on the next new year's party? Now we just need someone to provide the food and drinks, and maybe we can start 11 months early. :P
