Our Night Of The Living Dead 1990 project (Released)

Is there a reason why every sample image is a no show?

Strangely you can see them if you click on them.

I got the screenshot links from DJ back when I posted them. I don't have the full-res render myself so I can't re-post but I'll ask him to do it. It seems he used postimage.org and myself I usually use imageshack, because they keep the pics forever.

A before/after comparison would probably help lift this project.

There will be a comparison included on the blu-ray, of our "special edition". But we're also including the original in which we've reduced the edge enhancement.

Here's some comparisons of the special edition before/after, though in DVD resolution:

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Just to help, I analyzed the saber duel scene and the only green things I can find are these:

Some dust or something flying from the sabers when they hit each other at one point, is kinda green here:

Then there's this cyan-colored flash happening one time, but it looks the same in the GOUT. It's frame 127297 in the GOUT. Could anybody check all the other releases and see if it looks the same?

Then there was also this thing that could probably be fixed pretty easily. It's something that probably got copied from the GOUT when Harmy re-did the sabers:

EDIT:

Here's how that flash frame looks in 97 SE TB version and the 2011 BD:

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

Just wanted to tell you guys that we're closing in on releasing the first part which is of course Star Wars! (I won't ever call it Episode IV... haha)

DJ and I managed to solve the render problems. It seems avisynth has a limit for how many clips can be combined in one script, and we had many since there were lots of fixed frames to put back into the render.

Now all that is left is for me to make the final decision on the colors, the menu guy to finish our menus and then it won't be long until you have both SW theatrical and 97 SE.

The color correction in Mos Eisley looks good. You balanced out the pink.

And on the question about why Lucasfilm didn't color correct those LD's and broadcast masters: I don't think they would've had to. They color corrected all three films for the cinema, so why not just scan some reels and have it already done? Something must have gone really wrong when they did that.

Understand that I'm not on a calibrated monitor but shots from your projects always seem to look kind of green-ish to me. It's especially evident on that Leia shot. I think it looks better than the red from your sources but you might want to take another look at your color correction process.

I think the reason you think it looks green is because the source is not red but magenta-tinted. Green is the opposite of magenta and has to be increased to get some balance in the colors.

When comparing screenshots like that, your eyes can easily fool you in that way. First you look at the source shots and then at the corrected ones and think they're green, simply because Andrea has balanced away the tint. Fact is that the corrected shots are indeed more correct.

Though the 97 SE still has some blue and cyan that can't be balanced out that easily.

EDIT:

To comment on the latest clip, it looks like the shadow detail has been crushed.

Here's a screenshot from a preview clip you posted a while ago, with gamma increased to show shadow detail better:

And here's the same shot from the new clip, also with gamma increased:

Not much. DJ is working on putting back the fixed frames in SW but ran into some problems with the rendering so I'm trying to help him troubleshoot.

Other than that I can tell you that I managed to make our final color settings just that last little bit better. Once these are ready, they're gonna look as close to theatrical as possible.

Is anyone working on a bonus DVD for this release?  You know, a non-anamorphic, washed-out, shaky, dirty, smeared version of the Special Edition?  Maybe the 97 version but with the 2011 soundtrack?  So people could see what the Special Edition really was like, for objective comparison.

Or simply in black & white, just like in the theaters. :)

US Government may have to consider building death star if petition gets enough signatures
Time

Funny, today this petition was mentioned on the first page of a swedish news website, with the text:

"They demand that the US builds the Death Star.
The investment would strengthen the country's military forces - Here is the White house's decision."

Then it says they've calculated it would cost 850 000 trillion dollars to build it. :)

What was he banned for? I fear we will now never see this.

DJ was temporarily banned because he replied a bit harshly to a message from another user which he interpreted as provoking. But after a month the ban was lifted. DJ just decided to take some time off this forum and let me handle the communication regarding our projects.

You will see this project, it's just that DJ is a guy of a thousand ideas and he keeps wanting to do more and more. When the new complete Conan 3 CD score was released, he wanted to synch it because he said the already synched isolated score was missing some parts.

We're also exploring the possibilities of applying the original theatrical color timing. We can't make any promises but it sure would be nice if it's possible.

In OUT, sometimes the whites look clipped but maybe it was like that on the LDs?

Also, edges sometimes seems too round and not sharp, maybe the result of some antialiasing?

Look how the edges of those black panels in the background are round. And the white light above 3PO's head is clipped a bit.

In SET, there were lots of artefacts looking like oversharpening artefacts. Don't know why but I saw them everywhere.

And as usual, these are not complaints of course! Just feedback. You're doing a great job.

Info: New colormatching script
Time

After some more experimenting, I'd like to request an update if it's possible:

Can this plugin be changed so that it only adjusts the mids in the RGB gamma curves, (around 128) and leaves black and white levels alone? That way it might put out a much better result in some cases, and I think it would prevent luma flickering if using it to match two video clips?

EDIT:

I don't know if what I mentioned there would be the cure but you see, the problem I'm having is for example: A bright scene with lots of bright whites, a dark object passes by but never covers the whole screen, yet the output video gets darker when the object passes by.

Maybe it's because this plugin calculates the average luma of the whole image? At least that's what I think it does?

Maybe it should be based on calculating luma not by average but by black and white levels, no matter where in the image they are? Or by mids like I said before.

No idea what would work best, but I'd love to see a fix for this.
