My favourite Elton John songs are Daniel (my brother is named after that song) Tiny Dancer, and I'm still standing (which was written by Elton's lyricist Bernie Taupin as a gift to Elton after he beat drug addiction and made a comeback - listen to the lyrics). If you ever get knocked down or defeated somehow, listen to I'm still standing. I also really dig the guitar solo on that song: it's simple, but works really well.

EDIT: After I made this post I put on an Elton John record. Call me what you will, but I am an Elton John fan (well, the music at least - the current incarnation of the man himself seems like a bit of a wanker). One of the things I like about Elton John is that even though somebody else writes most of his lyrics, it's Elton John that pus music to them, and that is arguably what makes the songs (incidently the songs he wrote by himself and not with Bernie Taupin's lyrics are not as good).

EDIT 2: Rocket Man is another favourite.

Iron Man was the first comic I ever collected, so I'm pretty excited about this. I was worried it might just be another crappy Marvel adaptation but with Jon Favreau directing, this could be great.

From the Marvel website:

At the San Diego Comic Con this past weekend, director/actor/writer Jon Favreau, who is set to helm the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of Iron Man, announced who Shellhead's nemesis would be in the upcoming film.

Mr. Favreau of Swingers and Made fame, named fan-favorite and long-standing Iron Man archenemy Mandarin as the villain who will be the rust in Tony Stark's armor.

Additionally, we have a sneak peak of the teaser poster that was shown at the convention. Designed by Iron Man artist Adi Granov—a major player in the production design of this film—this poster gives a glimpse as to what Stark could look like when he eventually dons the red and gold suit in May of 2008.

This project, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, is expected to be financed through Marvel's $525 million revolving film financing facility and distributed under Marvel's overall distribution arrangement with Paramount. Iron Man will mark the first production under Mr. Arad's newly launched production company, Avi Arad Productions.

Storyboarding has already commenced. Favreau had stated that he intended to cast an unknown in the role of Anthony Stark a.k.a Iron Man, though rumors are gaining momentum. Favreau has also said that the plot itself will not so much deal with his personal problems (alcoholism) as much as the creation of his suit and the birth of Iron Man. However, he did say if there would be a sequel, the story could easily head in some of those directions.

Keep your eye-beams on the look out for more news on this metal-head movie.

Star Wars isn't the only one...

Thanks for the explanation. I also like Doom and the original Star Wars. Just out of curiosity, I would say my favourite game is Zelda for the Super Nintendo. So what, by your reckoning, would my favourite movie be? (BTW I am not trying to make fun of you - I am actually curious to see if this works for me).

P.S. Sorry to derail your thread. Feel free to carry on talking about the original topic.

But video game publishers rarely release old games. I mean, even if there was no Doom Special Edition, you wouldn't be able to walk into a store and buy the original Doom would you? Games are made, released, and then replaced by new versions (better graphics, more levels, more moves, different storyline, etc etc)

I admit this is a vaguely similar situation, but definitely not the same.

And Ingo, I see you have a new favourite game and therefore a new favourite movie. What is the reasoning? Why the change?

We keep things fresh in our relationship and that contributes to our stability. Of course my wife is more than just a bedroom companion, she’s my best friend, my foil and my soul mate. Any girl like that (if yours insnt like that then keep looking) will be secure with wearing the slave outfit at some point. Just keep in mind that you need to reciprocate.

EDIT: Clarity.
So basically, if your girl won't dress up as Leia for you, ditch her and find someone else. Words of wisdom right there.

You know what always bugs me? When people (on TV or whatever) dress up as slave Leia but with the ANH buns. It just doesn't look right. In fact, the buns hairdo is particularly unsexy on most people. an 18 year old Carrie Fisher they look great though. It's a shame the slave outfit wasn't in ANH because Carrie was starting to look a bit rough by ROTJ but in ANH she was smoking.

You get a bunch of people together for long periods of time, and there's bound to be a conflict of interest (ie. a fight) sooner or later. That doesn't mean OT.com has been turned upside-down, or that the good times are gone forever. At least, I don't think so. Things happen. Hopefully, the hostilities might resolve themselves. If Dayv truly is gone, it's a regrettable loss, and I'm definitely going to miss him. I just don't know if we can do anything about any of this, so it's probably better just to see how things play out.
As usual, wise words from Gaffer.

That is true, although lately there have been some fairly interesting threads and good conversations going on in there.

No shit Sean!

I can see both sides of this argument and to a degree I sympathise with each, but this is getting silly. When I think of how great OT.com is (was?) and then I see the last 2 or 3 pages of this thread, I feel pretty sad. What happened to the spirit of this place that spawned the Spark of Hope threads and all the other fun times?

I would also like to second what Ricarleite said about leaving permanently if and when I am told to shut the fuck up.

On a loosely related note, I watched a show on Discovery yesterday about a visionary called Herman Sörgel who had an idea in the 1920s to build a hydroelectric dam to be built across the Strait of Gibraltar, which would lower the Mediterranean Sea thus creating more land and causing Europe and Africa to be united as a single new continent called 'Atlantropa'. He believed this new prosperous continent powered by the dam would eventually usher in world peace. Very interesting.

Clerks 2 on July 21st.

Thread Resurection!!

I finally saw Clerks 2 today. Liked it a lot, especially when Randall is arguing about LOTR and makes the guy puke - great stuff (even though I like LOTR, there is only one true trilogy!).

I was kinda dubious about a sequel to Clerks, but I think Kevin Smith pulled it off. This one was a bit more polished and actually had a storyline, but all in all it done a good job of capturing the spirit of the original without being a rehash.

OK guys, it's pretty clear what's going on here, but can't we all just get along? I don't want Dayv or anyone else to leave OT.com but I also don't have a problem if he or anyone else wants to frequent another site. As Dayv mentioned in a post a week or so ago, there is no reason why OT.com and another site (which I won't name out of respect for Jay) can't co-exist, or even have a sort of unspoken partnership - a sister site, if you will. As far as I can see this whole thing is a non-issue. Having said that, I can totally understand why Jay would be concerned.

Dayv is someone I respect and enjoy talking with. I consider him a friend, and if he leaves I'll miss him. I'm sure we'll still converse via e-mail and possibly 'elsewhere', but OT.com is and always will be my online home and it will be a great shame if Dayv or anyone else started jumping ship. Surely this can be settled amicably without anyone feeling they have to stop being a member of the OT.com community.

I would rather have Dayv here rarely than not at all.
