Did you listen to anything we just said? Seriously Adam, it is interesting, and I gave in to temptation so I can't talk, but I urge you to not dabble. You may not be afraid, but in the words of Yoda, you will be. Sage is right - you might unlock something you don't want to. Even if it is all a bunch of crap and there is no afterlife, and the board is just latching on to your own thought patterns, or maybe it's just all in the users imagination and if they want it to work it will - whatever the case may be, I gaurantee you it will still mess with you mentally and keep you awake at night for a while afterwards. Please don't do it. I know you and I don't get along too well but I don't want anything nasty happening to you. Personally I would never do it again. It wasn't even scary for me or anything, but I just feel in my bones that I shouldn't have done it. Make of that what you will.

Wine
Time
I guess the classic choice for steak is Cabernet Sauvignon. But I would say that while it's definitely true that certain wines really compliment and enhance a meal, and some can really kill a meal by making it seem to try of acidic, etc, try not to get too hung up on wine/food matching and if you like it, that's all that matters. So maybe use Cabernet Sauvignon as a starting point and experiment.

Yeah, I don't recommend anyone try it. My curiosity got the better of me and luckily nothing bad happened (yet). I also was doing it with someone who (seemed to) know what they were doing and she would step in and move the coin to 'exit' or whatevr it is to end it if she thought the spirit was 'bad'.

But yeah, don't do it kids. Trust me, it's real - no need for you to try it yourself.

Wine
Time
I used to think those guys who smelt the wine and spoke about 'bouquet' and wine that tastes of 'strawberries with a hint of oak and citrus' were talking crap, but then, during my student days, I worked in a wine shop and had to complete a number of courses etc and really developed an appreciation. I still remember most of it today and often impress people with my wine knowledge (most people just grab whattever from the supermarket and don't really understand it). I don't drink anymore, and the only thing I miss is the occasional glass of good wine. Are you a red or a white man Sage? I'm definitely a red fan.

My favourites are (or were) pretty much any Chilean Merlot or, if I was having white, I used to enjoy a South African Chardonnay called 'Arniston Bay' (great with ANY seafood). Bulgaria also made some good reds, and at the time I was working, Australian wines were the big thing, but things change so quickly and a country that was producing good wine a year ago might not be anymore, so I guess none of that really helps.

Me too. In fact I hate any idiot who wears any t-shirt with a logo or image on that they don't really know about but they think it's 'cool'. That goes for movie and band t-shirts too (like some 15 year old it-girl wearing a Guns n' roses shirt), but the political stuff gets me more.

It was when I was at university. I lived with 2 guys and two girls, plus myself. One of the guys was my buddy Noel, who I have known since I was about 14 and by chance (or perhaps it wasn't chance...?) ended up going to the same university, getting put in the same dorm and then moved in together. Anyway, my point is this: I trust Noel 100%.

So, Noel and myself, plus Noel's then-girlfriend who was into all that spooky stuff and seemed to know what she was doing, decided to do the ouija board. We managed to convince the 2 girls we lived with (Sarah and Hannah) to join in.

Now, I didn't think anything was gonna happen, but then the bloody coin starts moving. Of course, I thought it was all bullshit and someone (probably Noel) was fucking around. But he denied it and said I was fucking around. The girls also thought we were fucking around. After a few 'converstaions' with 'spirits' I said 'right, who the fuck is moving that coin cos it's not funny anymore', but still noone would admit it. Like I said, I trust Noel, so the girls stopped touching the coin and left just me and him with our fingers on it (and by on it, I mean BARELY touching - not enough to even move the coin, just touching it very very very lightly).

So now it's just me and Noel, with the girl's watching, and we ask if there are any spirits who want to talk, and the coin moves to Yes. I still think Noel is fucking around and he still thinks I am. Then we ask who the message is for, and it spells out 'Sarah'. I still think Noel is fucking around. We ask who the spirit is and it says 'uncle'. By this point, Sarah is clearly scared and me and Noel are both saying 'it's not me'. Sarah asks a few questions and I repeated them for the benefit of the 'spirit' (I can't remeber exactly what the questions were - stuff only she would no, and mainly yes or no stuff) but apparently the spirit got all the answers right. Finally, she told me to ask the spirit his real name, and the coin starts to move. First it goes to B - sarah looks shocked, next it moves to E - Sarah is still looking amazed. Eventually it spells out BERNARD (Which was her dead uncle's name and there is no way me or Noel could know that) and she starts crying. That was too much for me and Noel so we both taook our hands off the coin. Fucked up shit man - to this day Noel swears it wasn't him and I swear it's all real.

Anyone want to help me build my own Spiricom?

LOL for some reason I don't belive he'll post again here, but oh well.

Some people have claimed to have built the Spiricom following the specifications on the technical document, and claimed some degree of success contacting dead people.

I am not an expert in electronics and radio, and I'd be too scared to turn the damn thing on after completed, or else I would build on too. Perhaps this would be a good "show-and-tell" or science show demonstration at school? Or maybe some electronics magazine might want to write an article with the specs for that? Although Spiricom is a bad name... Spookyphone or Ghostcall would be better suited.

Farewell Ainnem!

Yeah, Spookyphone - liking it.

Anyone here ever done the Oiuja Board? I have, and I am convinced it's real.

I don't care one bit about the fate of prequel characters

OK, fair points all round - sorry.
Personally, I responded to Anakin's death scene by saying 'shit, I can't believe how graphic that was' and then a little laugh at the totally forced 'You're my brother I love you' because it was very, very good, but sadly nothing had happened previously to back it up, which made it feel like it was just chucked in there to mske you say 'oh, they're such good friends, how sad it came to this'.

Basically what I'm saying as this - a great scene, or even a number of great scenes, don't make a good film if the rest of the meterial isn'y up to par.

Anyway, whatever - I wasn't pulling a 'cheap joke'. AWK's post about crying really did make me lagh out loud. I jsut can't see how anyone bought Anakin's fall or his friendship with Obi-wan. Evidently some did, and I'm happy for them and wish I was one of them, but I'm not. The prequels done nothing for me.

Lucas was still reworking the turn scene after post production!

Very good read CO- thanks! I find it sad that Lucas puts so much credence into to views and opinions of his peer group (assumedly Spielberg et al) and at the same time seemingly dismisses the views of most of the vast empire (pun intended) of LFL, studios etc. I'm not saying he should listen to everyone, just that someone who makes such a big deal of publically stating his is the ONLY opinion that matters shouldn't second-guess himself like that. I was recently watching the 'scene in a minute' (or whatever) behind the scenes docu on the 'Sith' DVD and a couple of things stuck out in my mind. One was GL talking about bringing Spielberg in as a consultant. When addressing his own employees GL repeatedly referred to Spielberg as 'our director'. This was only vaguely tongue-in-cheek and I got the impression that somewhere under the surface GL really felt like under Spielberg he wasn't a 'real' director. The other thing that struck me was the fear in the faces of the employees when Lucas was around them. They all look petrified to me. And the guy who says "George really suports us and our ideas- he'll look at something and say 'that's great- just not in MY movie'"- that doesn't sound very supportive to me. That sounds more like 'quit dicking around and do what I told you or you're out'.

Dunno, maybe its just me.

A guy I used to work with worked for ILM before he worked with me, and he pretty much confirmed what Greencapt said. It's the main reason he cited for leaving ILM and coming to England. For him, sonic the hedgehog Yoda was the final straw. -apparently lots of the Post Production crew were like 'what the hell is this? This isn't Yoda' but the atmosphere was 'do it, or get out'.

BOSSK, ONE OF YOUR PRESENTS WAS PANTHER. I HAVE SOMETHING ELSE FOR THOUGH.

Hey, Panther was a great enough gift. And yet I have no idea what to send your way. What do you get for the guy that clearly has everything?
A big hug

Yeah man, the oceans are still largely a mystery, and there's some real weird shit down there. As for Nessie, well I'm not sure something that big could remain undiscovered or captured in a relatively small and enclosed body of water, but I still like to believe it.

I too am very interested in UFOS (funny enough, I just ordered season 1 of the X-Files....coincidence? I think not!!)

M-Lock?
Time
I saw it on play.com. They have a special offer on season 1 boxsets of a number of TV shows, and I wanted to by x-files season 1, but it said M-Lock and I wanted to make sure what it meant before buying - I don't want to get stuck with a DVD set with some kind of funky new anti-piracy lock or whatever. But I guess it's just a type of DVD packaging. Thanks MeBe.

I am fascinated by this stuff and have read loads of books etc on various subjects, but sadly don't have any stories of my own. I do have a good one from my grandfather though - He used to work as a janitor in a school and one day he was in the boiler room and he saw a man shovelling coal into thin air. He later spoke with the headmaster of the school who told him that a previous janitor had died many yaesr ago when the boiler exploded back in the days when they still used old fashioned boilers. My mother also swears that shortly after the birth of my younger brother she awoke to find her father, who had died a few months earlier, sitting on the end of her bed. She believes that he was visiting one last time to check on the family as a whole and the grandson he never met.

When I was a kid I made a pact with my best friend at the time that whichever of us died first would visit the other one to prove the existence of ghosts. I'm not in touch with him anymore so I don't know if the pact still stands... Hey Ric, how about whichever of us dies first makes an effort to contact the other? Hopefully in the afterlife the distance between Brazil and England won't matter so much
