Sage's Rant of the Moment
Time
Yes, I have quite a few more qualifications than my American wife, including a batchelors degree, yet her education cost her 30,000 plus, whereas mine cost about 3000. And I was one of the unlucky ones - had I gone to uni a little earlier, it would have been free, but they changed that the year I started. Now they are changing it again and a lot of people can't afford to go - my younger brother is one of them.

I also agree with the comment about the military budget.

Tell me about it. London has some of the cleanest, most purified drinking water in the world. That shit goes through like 100 filters before it comes out of our faucets. Will my wife drink it? No. Then some chinese medicine guy told her that impurities in drinking water are actually a good thing because it helps our body to develop it's immune system. She thought about it for a day, then went back to buying Evian.

Maybe I should tell her the Thetans will get her if she doesn't have my dinner ready when I get home.

P.S I've read the book of Morman (out of curiosity - I wanted to understand what I was mocking). I don't personally buy into it, but then again I don't really buy 100% into the original bible either, but if you do buy into that stuff *the bible I mean), why is it so hard to believe that an angel visited some guy in Utah and told him the location of some tablets containing extra bible chapters? I'm not saying that I believe it or that the founder of the mormans was for real, but imagine if he was, and he really was visited by an angel. Jesus himself was mocked for the things he said. It's something to consider at any rate.

Having said that, Scientology requires no consideration. It's crazy. And Battlefield Earth is a CRAP movie.

Where's your e-mail address! Do you take Paypal!

Sure do! My e-mail address is in my profile.
In fact, we prefer paypal - the instant payments improve our cash flow, allowing us to thwart the Ramax Banana threat more efficiently.

Did I mention that the first 10 forum members to make 1000 dollar donations will be rewarded with a seat on my spaceship to a new and better planet?

Lord of the Rings - FOTR - The Book-Cut (Released)
Time
I personally don't think that the movies would have worked if they were shot directly from the book, and I think Peter Jackson's team done a good job of adapting the books into watchable movies with mass appeal. However, if a book cut is what you want, it sounds like you have made some good choices and done a good job. I also agree that the 'warmed up' Lothlorien is far superior to the original, and from your screenshots is a lot closer to what I imagined when reading the book, so well done.

But Ric, seriously, if you were a voice actor in South Park, and the show criticised your religion, even if you were ok with it and went on a radio show declaring that you were ok with it, I'm pretty sure that the threat of Alien warlords would make you change your mind. Death at the hands of an alien warlord Vs the possibility that someone will call you a hippocrite... I think you see my point, and I think maybe we should be thankful to Mr Hayes, Mr Cruise and Mr Travolta for risking ridicule and bankrupcy in order to save mankind from the Thetan threat.

BTW, from now on it is requested that anyone who posts in this thread sends me one dollar per post. This 'donation' is optional, although failure to 'donate' will result in you being eaten alive by evil bananas from the ramax dimension while you sleep. The 'choice' is yours.

Instead we got a bunch of new costumes and CGI. Why? Is there a deeper meaning? No. "We added them because they look cool, aren't they? Look what we can do with our rendering farms!"
There's your answer.

Jesus Cartoon controversy

Yeah, Baron is right. This 'we're better than Muslims because they get angry and kill people wheras we get angry and pray for their souls' has got to stop. My wife's American, and she is of the opinion that 'they' (Muslims) are 'all' that way. She, like many American and British people, believe that it is 'us' against 'them' and 'they' want to kill 'us'. But, although that is definitely the way in which public opinion is beginning to swing, it's not the case. Things are never that Black and White. The crazy, insane, hateful acts of violence and spreading of anomisity is beingg conducted by a minority of Muslims, and the rest I believe are against all this violence. So we have all got to stop tarring an entire group consisting of millions of people with the same brush being wielded by a small group of dangerous idiots...sorry, misled individuals.

Incidentally, one of the guys I work with is a very very nice, friendly, peaceful middle aged white English man. His wife is from Pakistan, so, many years ago, after studying her beliefs, he decided he would convert to Islam. Is he a terrorist? No. Would he have converted if the religion was evil and preached hatred. Definitely not. I have never met a nicer person.

That picture is taken from the pre-credits sequence of Austin Powers 3 (which was the best part of the movie, IMO).

OK, This is going way off-topic, but someone mentioned Mel Gibson, so I gotta ask - Does anyone know if that story about Mel Gibson getting horribly disfigured then a priest paying for his cosmetic surgery and Mel becoming a devout christian is true? Sounds far-fetched to me. I mean, Mel Gibson has always been a pretty good looking guy, so facial disfigurement seems unlikely.

The Village was lame, and so was Signs - great premises, but both lame. Sign's 'twist' about coincidence and destiny (all that shit about his wife's last words being to swing the bat and his kid's thing about leaving half-finished glasses of water around ultimately saving them from the aliens) were especially lame. And Macauley Culkin's bro was annoying as f**k in that too. But I thought Unbreakable was cool, and like RedBaron says, such a neat idea. I also really dug sixth sense when it came out, but haven't seen it in ages.

Isn't Mr Hubbard rumoured to have said 'forget writing, if you want to make a million dollars, start a religion', or words to that effect?

What I can't understand is WHY all these actors and singers are buying into that crap. Are they so hollow, feeling so devoid of purpose or worth in their lives that they are just reaching out for some kind of answer, and getting suckered in the process? I mean, if that is the case, why Scientology? Why not Kabballah or buddhism or some other spirtual path that at least makes sense?

I was at teh UK Premiere of Battlefield Earth. Mr Travolta was there and made a lovely speech before the movie about what it was trying to achieve, etc. It basically amounted to a pre-emptive apology for the shit he was about to inflict on us.
