Faster than the speed of light
Time
Wouldn't it be ironic if faster-than-light travel began as a lowly evention in an early 21st century German lab years before it had any practical application instead of one huge outer-space breakthrough along the lines of Star Trek's Zephram Cochran.

Usually it is the small way that precedes the bigger application.

Couple this with the breakthrough in levitation, we're in for a fun ride into the next century here...

What is the most distressing aspect of the PT?
Time
Oh yeah, the midichlorians. I forgot all about them. Yeah, they suck too.

And thank you Hot_Rod. Nice to know I'm not the only one who saw that Episode 1 failed to properly build any kind of friendship between Obi-Wan and Anakin.

You're not the only one. I thought all three movies failed miserably despite Lucas's efforts to "tack on" little scenes to plug up that hole.

And the moment I heard "midichlorians" spoken in TPM, I was devastated. It utterly destroyed Star Wars and the mystique of the Force.

Your first words of reaction after watching one of the PT movies for the first time.
Time
I remember turning to my friend after watching TPM and asking, "Did that feel like Star Wars to you?" And he shook his head "no." And I wanted to like the film.

After watching AOTC, I was gobsmacked. Again, I remember asking my friend if it "felt" like Star Wars to him, and again, he said, "no." I was very disappointed.

ROTS I didn't watch until it was video. I just couldn't shake the cartoony-digity aura about it. Again, disappointed. Again, did not feel like Star Wars. I wanted to like this one, especially after reading posts of those hated the first two, but liked this one.

The Best Star Wars Books?
Time
That has always bugged me about the books. They're always trying to be bigger, badder, super-duper-ultra-weapons!!! What's presented in the films is what should be the "ultimate" and the books shouldn't be out-doing them. I mean, how more powerful can you get than blowing up a whole frickin' planet...oh right, there were the star-exploder thingies. Whatever.

Was it in "Dark Empire" that the Emperor had a SUPER-Super-star destroyer?

What were your original expectations for the PT?
Time
What did I expect?

1) A good relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin.
2) Obi-Wan is the one who finds Anakin (like he says in the OT)
2) Clone Wars, Clone Wars...and the bad guys start out with the clones and when the Empire begins to emerge, they take the technology and use it for themselves, the Jedi object, and Palpatine makes it look like the Jedi are not interested in the security of the Republic and are branded traitors and hunted down.
3) A good turn for Anakin and him hunting down Jedi.
4) More intrigue. Jedi not clueless.

That's about it.

Is there anything you do like about The Prequels...
Time
In the OT you could easily have emotional ties to the characters...

That's thing with the OT, we had this whole film to like these characters and root for their success, but in the PT we're just not given enough (character-wise) to root for these guys. Lucas sets up these ambiguous situations which mete out nothing. Are Amidala's people REALLY being starved by "the thousands?" (in only a day?). Amidala doesn't LOOK like she cares. Qui-Gon doesn't seem to care a whole lot as he's mucking about this with stupid little kid and taking the time to sit through a pod race. If things really were truly dire, wouldn't there be a greater effort to stem it?

Oh right, we're suppose to comment on things we like. There's some good cinematography in TPM. Some nifty designs for aliens and vehicles. I like the TF hover-tanks. Battledroids wouldn't be so bad if they didn't sound like Donald Duck.

Prequel Character Names
Time
It has, but he did a filtering process to disregard names and reapply names back into the script just to see what works/sounds better. Luke use to be "Justin Valor" and Obi-Wan Kenobi use to be someone else, and the emperor use to be called "Cosdashit" (kid you not). Imagine if Lucas had gone with that instead of "Palpatine." How stupid would that be? Well, it is because we get a ridiculous name like "Dooku." It seems like Lucas didn't go through the same process he did for the OT. He didn't switch it around to see if it fit. Instead, he seems to go with the first thing he puts down. Not a very good writer approach.

Did Anakin's fall start with Qui-Gon?
Time
Wookie Wedgie, I'm not so sure about Qui-Gon not getting killed until Episode III. It had always been implicit that it was only Anakin and Obi by the time the lava pit duel rolled around.

Oh no, absolutely not, no. If I made a change like that, I'd make a whole bunch of other changes, too. I woulda had Obi-Wan the one finding Anakin, not Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon wouldn't be Obi-Wan's teacher, it'd be Yoda like he said in ESB. But, I would make Qui-Gon, or a character like Qui-Gon one of Anakin's first victims when he's revealed to be the betrayer of the Jedi. Maybe Qui-Gon figures it out and Anakin slays him. Qui-Gon, was a close friend of Obi-Wan's, and Obi-Wan's wants to take vengeance on the one who killed his friend. He's, of course, shocked to discover it's his own student...

Did Anakin's fall start with Qui-Gon?
Time
Yeah, I do wish all of the Jedi were a little more like Qui-Gon. A little roguish, above the rules because they serve a higher purpose. It's a shame things are so muddled and cross-wise in the PT. Qui-Gon could've been a character that was throughout the three movies and slain by Anakin in the third, which really would wolloped us in the gut with the impact because we liked the guy. Again, another missed opportunity.

Prequel Character Names
Time
I have always been critical of the Prequel names. "Padme" makes me think of tampons. "Naberrie" makes me think of "dingle-berries" and of course, "Dooku"---it's all rather scatological. Jar Jar Binks is just so damned childish. Bibble is equally childish. Bibble..dribble. Ugh. Panaka..Panache? Pancake?

If we're going back to a "golden age" in the prequels I'd expect something a little more "romantic" or lyrical.

What do you love about Star Wars?
Time
Yeah, the Ewoks in the final film really have not motive to fight or celebrate. You get the impression that once the Death Star was complete the Imperials all would have left and life would have continued on, totally unaffected. In the first drafts Endor was one of the moons of Coruscant, and was being deforested and harvested for natural resources--which is why Palpatine calls it a "sanctuary moon" in the final film, even though its not. It was supposed to be a sanctuary for the overpopulated Coruscant, which indeed would give the Ewoks a reason to save themselves from the invaders.

And wouldn't it have made sense to make the moon the site for the Jedi Temple?
