So with the recent revelation of George Lucas himself having signed off on this public screening of a legit unaltered '77 Star Wars, I wonder what it could mean for the below matters:
- George’s changed stance/view on the original theatricals?
- Clauses within the contract sale to Disney that allow him to do this and I wonder what else?
- Some tangible proof of future 4K releases of the original theatricals?
- Possibly a new source for fan restorations in perfect condition (apart from possibly 2sec of damage as detailed below)?
Pretty interesting turn of events either way! 😄
Or he just doesn’t care because it costs him nothing.
I’m young enough that I didn’t get a chance to even see the 97 in theaters. I’ve seen the PT, TFA, RO, and TLJ in theaters and just want to see them in some form or another at this point.
TLDR: count yourself lucky if you’ve seen the IT in theaters.
The IT???
Heh, you got me. 😁

The Godfather Part III in theaters originally ran at 162 minutes, but for all home video releases a 170 minute “final director’s cut” (it says this only on the VHS cover even though DVD and blu-ray versions are the same) was created while the 162 minute version never made available on home video at least in the US (idk about international home video releases)
That could possibly qualify on this list even though I can’t find any comparisons on any website.
Can you get me a source? If you can’t find one, I’ll put it there anyway, but I don’t want to edit it twice 😁
People getting offended over a fucking animated film need to get their priorities straight.
That’s really not the place for this.
I guess add Toy Story 2 to the list.

I remember reading that AOTC was only shot in 8 bit 4:2:0, and ROTS 8 bit 4:2:2. These cameras were basically on par with the $2000 prosumer Sony A7SII of today.
I know most of you likely have seen this already but…god damn.

I know this will never happen but what I would give for a bonus Harmy v3.0 4K Revisited/Reimagined release that utilizes this scene when the real 3.0 is released. 😃
Yuck.
Honestly I prefer the LDs because they hide the issues in the master.
No idea of the legitimacy of this article, but it certainly sounds interesting.

Probably just someone trying to get clicks since it’s Celebration time.
At the very least, it’s the most concrete thing we’ve had for quite some time.
With March almost over what do you think are the odds of a celebration announcement?
Like none.
That moment when you suspect the fandom has become a cult, and not in a good way.
There’s a good type of cult?
This is great news!!! Just in time for the month of my birthday!!
Less competition, less variety and less creativity in an already homogeneous industry. Wow, great news!
Can they have it ready for my dad’s birthday this year?
I assume they’ll just release trilogy packs or single film releases. Then they can release the ST pack after IX is out.
There’s also Pablo’s insistence that these have been conformed to the current SE.
It sounds like they’ve at least archived every scrap of celluloid at their disposal, so it could be that unaltered scenes will appear in a deleted scenes section of the inevitable 4K release. I’m hoping that we get both the incomplete Jabba scene and the 97 version.
Fang Zei said:
None of those selling points were enough for me then, and a 4k HDR SE certainly won’t be enough of a selling point for me without the unaltered versions. I suspect I’m not alone in that regard.
With how awful the current masters are, it might be worth it just to have a good looking version of the SE.
Honestly though, if it ends up containing the OUT, I’ll be a day one purchase despite not have a 4k player.
It’s the same master. The only difference is that the GOUT is pretty much the highest possible quality that you can squeeze from that particular master.
If they’re going to do it, it will be for the UHD release. If it doesn’t happen then, it won’t happen for the foreseeable future.
Phantasm films added sloppily! Sorry it took so long, I’ve been very busy with work lately.
Pixar’s last masterpiece.
Obviously you’ve never experienced Cars 2 in a packed theatre with a can of beans in your hand
How about on a roof at a drive in as a double feature with Pirates of the Caribbean 4?
That’s Vidiot from the Steve Hoffman forums, right? He’s had a ton of posts explaining/defending his work on the 2004 masters. They’re worth a read if you want some insight into the coloring process for the DVDs.
Has anyone picked up the Jurassic Park UHD Blu Ray? And if you have, can you confirm if it retains the alterations from the 3D release?
I watched my 1985 Rocky laserdisc (Japanese) recently and noticed during the final scene that some of the audio was different from the version on blu ray and dvd.
After the final bell in the Rocky\Apollo fight, a piano piece plays briefly before the main music kicks in. IMDB mentions this was removed for the surround sound versions for DVD.
The next thing I can
t find any reference to online. On the Laserdisc after the final bell rings, Apollo says "Aint gonna be no rematch" just once and Rocky replies "Dont want one" twice, the second time sounding quite emotional and like he REALLY doesnt want one.Does anyone know when they changed that to the version that is on every DVD\Blu Ray\youtube upload that I can find of the scene. Apollo saying “Ain
t gonna be no rematch" twice, followed by a single relatively nonchalant "Dont want one” from Rocky? The original mono on the BD has the piano playing while they don’t want no rematch, but yeah it has Apollo twice and Rocky once, so I’d be curious to hear that LD. Could you record that bit of dialogue and post it online?
I’ll add this if it can be confirmed.
EDIT: On second thought, I won’t add this. I don’t want to go down the audio changes rabbit hole or this thread will never end.
