Smudger9, did you maybe consider combining Ahsoka and “The Mandalorian” into one film series?
It seems eventually all those shows will lead to one big crossover event - Dave Filoni’s movie.
Plus, Ahsoka already appeared in your previous “Mando” films and Thrawn’s return was hinted there before.
So, if you made them all just “Star Wars” films, this one would just be a continuation of some storylines that started in the previous stories.
Absolutely. Lucasfilm updated their Eras timeline this week so I’ll probably go with “The New Republic” as the logo for these. I’ll wait for the end of the Ahsoka series before committing to this and I’ll also need to tinker with my Mando S2 to include the now essential Ahsoka/Morgan confrontation.

EP3: Ahsoka S1 P1
EP4: Ahsoka S2 P2

EP3: Ahsoka S1 P1
EP4: Ahsoka S2 P2
EP5: BOBF
EP6: Mando S3Did you consider maybe intercutting Ahsoka with TBOBF and Mando s03 to have one coherent story with the same protagonists?
If I remember correctly, you weren’t 100% happy with the Mando/Ahsoka/Luke stuff being the last act of your third Mando movie.Maybe you could make it the beginning of the -let’s call it-movie4? We have there Ahsoka and Mando meeting, Mando and Grogu reunion and from there, both protagonists, Ahsoka and Mando go their way and in both storylines, the return of Thrawn is heavily mentioned. And in both storylines we have Carson as a recurring character. So maybe it would make sense to make it two movies with Ahsoka and Mando stories intercutting (like the one you did with Boba and Mando) with the big finale being probably the return of the admiral Thrawn.
Or just add the Luke/Ahsoka/Mando part to the movie 4, as a prologue, and then add some scenes from the first episope of “Ahsoka” to your movie edit of Mando s03. You could even end it with a nice cliffhanger, of Baylon and Shin rescuing Morgan and then the next movie could be Ahsoka-centered.
I’m playing with that idea based on Smudger’s edits and I’ve been wanting to open a post about it for a while, but first I wanted to do something really solid. The question is that for now this idea of interconnecting the two stories would only work in a film, because it seems strange to me to make films of two timelines that have nothing to do with each other. But it’s a matter of trying, maybe Smudger will come up with something.
Really looking forward to seeing how this looks after your other edits! I think it’s the series that most lends itself to becoming a “classic” Star Wars movie with all its mannerisms, and at the same time there are quite a few things that can improve the result. I’m quite liking Ahsoka, but like almost everything, I think I’d like it better in a movie format.
I can’t believe I forgot to review this one!
I don’t know if it’s your best work (I think the second season was much more confusing when it came to rearranging it), but it’s certainly the one that most convinces me of how necessary this project is.
Season 3 was a bit of a hit or miss, with some episodes that I didn’t enjoy at all for the first time with this series. I’ve never felt so much like a season needed to be re-edited in some way to work better, and I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with your work.
Without a doubt, this is the best way to see it and I think it is the one that most emphasizes the emotion of everything that happens and the weight of the final victory. In some way, that ending that I feel rushed for a television episode here feels organic and suits me much more as a movie, and I think that undoing the tension of certain things that remain in the air from one chapter to another works better in order to not make false expectations with what is going to happen.
As always, great job!
Can I get a link please? This sounds interesting 😃
It is much more difficult for me to assess these edits than the Mandalorian ones because, unlike that series, this one seems practically flawless from start to finish. Where in the first I see an almost repair work (not because what you omit is not good, but because as a whole I see that not everything contributes to the core of the story), in this one I feel that the objective is to make it work in another medium, and the truth is that I think you succeed.
I have seen the two films this weekend and they have seemed to me to be two thrillers with exquisite pacing (I have not noticed the weight of the three hours at all), with excellent decisions when it comes to managing the plots of the series and the information from the flashbacks, which I think is distributed even better than following the series, at least when doing it week by week.
I think it’s another great job, possibly as movies are better than The Mandalorian and I love the idea of doing a marathon that culminates in Rogue One once the second season is available.
The problem with this season is that we have 4 episodes and for now it doesn’t seem to be about anything in particular. The introductory approach was fixed in the second episode, they have dedicated an entire (and quite long) chapter to asserting that Gideon is coming back and now we have a main character with no firm motivations and Bo-Katan, who does seem to be more restless, completely stopped in the plot without being able to convert them into an active agent. Grogu seems to have a more active role in the plot, but he doesn’t feel any evolution and the flashback is basically the same information that Ahsoka told us in the second season. We know that the plot of the pirates in Nevarro still lies ahead, which also seems secondary in any way, and we have seen a large squad of Ties that “cannot be from an imperial warlord”. A thousand chips thrown into the air and nothing picked up.
In order to translate this into a film, I agree that things will have to be reconsidered and it is difficult to propose it from now on compared to the two previous ones, which, even with very different developments, had a much better focused dramatic axis. Let’s hope that the remaining four make it clearer to us, but for now Favreau’s writing is seeming quite erratic and dysfunctional to me beyond the fact that there are things that I am quite liking.
Well, I think this episode can help the film feel much more choral (I was thinking it could give it some Rogue One vibes) if, as some say, you alternate parts of Pershing’s plot between those of Din and Bo-Katan. I admit that I was watching the chapter and thinking about your edits.
As always, I am speechless with your work and I love how you know how to see what is important in each episode to rescue the necessary information. That being said, I do agree with WitchDR that seeing Grogu and Din reunite for the first time with the purrgil scene doesn’t quite work for me either.
In that sense, I think that the way Grogu appears on the ship in the mandalorian’s ritual scene could work as a “revelation”, or you could still mix the purrgil scene with the final of TBOBF, which I think linked very well with Grogu’s decision in the third film. Maybe make some way that when the N1 goes into turbo mode at Grogu’s request it jumps into hyperspace and spins with the purrgil scene?
Otherwise I find it great! The first episode was almost a reminder of everything that came before with the strange addition of the IG-11 plot, it seems very appropriate to jump to the second almost directly.
Looking at the first chapter (which I agree is quite weak), I think that this season the concept of this series as an anthology with a very marked POV is over. The starts of the previous two seasons were focused on a specific adventure that seeded subplots into the main story, but these 30 minutes almost seem like they were pulled from a longer movie or series. We have been on several planets with several conflicts going on at the same time (pirates, the recovery of IG-11, Din’s redemption as a Mandalorian), with a much more choral plot that makes clear the presence of several characters from previous seasons since the start.
I think that, as they point out here, the quality of Filoni’s works is super variable and seasons have started badly on other occasions. Without going any further, the beginning of this second part of TBB also seemed quite weak to me and has ended up giving great episodes.
That said, conceptually I like Mandalorian much more than Andor and I think that it formally has traits with more personality, but the development of one and the other is light years away. If Andor is much better, it is not for being a more adult series, but because Mandalorian has not managed to give real weight to its conflicts by not daring to take any firm step (the separation of Din and Grogu, the resurrection of characters, etc.) .
Mark me as interested 😃 I would love to see your work after seeing your great results with Mando
Hey, this looks great! I don’t know if the classic Star Wars movie format will suit this series as well as Mando or Clone Wars (I’m referring to the opening crawl and the end credits), but of course something very interesting can come out of joining their plots. For now it seems to me the most solid series of Star Wars, and its impeccable visual section I think it can help a lot to the feeling of being a movie.
Very good those first 30 minutes, I haven’t even noticed the jumps because I watched the first three episodes in a batch. Good sign.
First of all, congratulations. I’ve been watching your sequel trilogy this week and loved the approach, not being destructive with the work and enhancing its best assets. This version of IX improves practically everything, being a film that, although I see it failing in certain parts, I also perceive things in it that I love and that are enhanced in this version.
I loved that in the duel of Rey and Kylo you keep part of the silence and that the version of Duel of the Fates that you include has a darker tone. I feel like while that scene does fit in having some music, it’s certainly not the standard Duel of the Fates or Battle of Heroes theme that I’ve seen in other edits. I also loved the symbolism of Rey’s broken saber, and the final scene with Palpatine and the ghosts is very successful.
On the other hand, I love those subtitles you are preparing! May I know what font it is? I have thought about translating some edits here into Spanish and I would like them to be as correct as possible.
This film is not only very well edited, but also, for me, it fixes the biggest mistake that Boba Fett and his Din and Grogu-centric chapters had: making them meet again without generating a tension that gives weight to the reunion. If in the middle of the series of another character you introduce as a secondary plot what is the main one of another, it feels strange. However in your films, taking that reunion to the end of a third film without Grogu appearing until then, you feel that in relation to the previous ones there is a weight and a burden for the separation. It feels that the protagonist is Mando, the plot is dilated and the ending works better. Anyway, you have made my new canon of how I am going to see these series (single episodes that shine apart).
The audio mix in this one works perfectly for me, I don’t notice any difference with the Disney + versions and the transitions between plots are smooth and elegant.
Amazing job. I have enjoyed every minute of the movie and I feel that all the omissions and changes regarding the chapters are very well done. The editing work in dialogues, the rearrangement of scenes, the use of music, the way of spinning the chapters… I sweat thinking about doing it. As a Star Wars standalone this would be a blast. Congratulations, it is a 100% enjoyable movie.
Thanks for the feedback. Season 1 is definitely the most conducive to making a feature length movie and the end result is a pretty satisfying 3-act edit.
Sorry to be picky, but I’ve also noticed sound issues on this one. About minute 1:42:37, a kind of roar repeatedly creeps in, presumably from another part of the film. I also notice some of the watery sound I mentioned in episode 2, again at times when the music hits hard. It is noticeable for example at the moment when Grogu heals Greef, around the minute 2:00:13. Compare it to the version of the seventh episode, I notice very clearly a deterioration in the sound.
I have already seen part 3 and it is fantastic, I will leave you a review in its respective thread but connecting with the topic I want to tell you that I have not noticed anything strange in that one and I hear the sound mix much cleaner than in the other two. I will review it well just in case before writing to you in the corresponding thread.
I am reviewing them well because I am really very happy with your work. I really like the mandoverse but I’m not too keen on interconnected transmedia storytelling and I love this way of putting together series and concretizing them. It would be nice to have a version as polished as possible.
Spectacular! I would say that it even has a better rhythm than the first, and although the changes have hurt me more in this one (I love episode 7 of the second season), seeing it I understand that it is impossible to integrate the story in another way. I loved the way of integrating the Boba Fett plot, it feels completely organic knowing the nature of the third part (which I haven’t been able to see yet, but I’m looking forward to it).
The only problem I have noticed is the sound. In the parts with music it is more noticeable: it is as if it had applied a noise reducer that distorts the general loudness. These days I have been putting the film in Premiere to change some parts with music because otherwise it seems to me a fantastic film.
Congratulations, another great job. 😉
This was a lot more of a struggle to edit into a movie. There was a lot I would have liked to have included, but for time and structural reasons had to be cut. The Ahsoka/Mando team up, episode 6 and episode 4 have some really great moments.
In terms of the sound issues, I have watched it back a few times and didn’t pick up on anything. We’re there any specific time stamps where it’s a problem?
I have checked and notice the same problem in the .mkv. Could it be a compression that has been applied to everything?
I’ve also noticed a sudden lightsaber sound around 1:22:30, when Grogu is sitting with Ahsoka. I also think some of the music from other scenes in Corvus creeps in throughout that scene.
If you’re working on other edits right now and have the sound mix lying around I can take a look at it myself.
This looks amazing! Can you please send me a PM with the link? Thank you in advance 😃
Yes, of course it seems like a more tricky season on a structural level because although it has a more marked focus from the beginning (taking Grogu with the Jedi), it also takes advantage of that focus to pause in more adventures and secondary plots.
Regarding chapter 4, I also thought for a moment if it would be important to include it in order to establish the empire’s intentions with Grogu, which may have importance in the future. But for now the setting is so slight that the important thing would be what we see properly in the future.
And about the sound, I notice it especially at the end of the film: when Luke is leaving with Grogu in his arms and the music plays quite strongly, I notice a watery sound in the background. I have seen the .mov version, if you want I can check if I notice the same in the .mkv.
Wowww, these look great! Can I get a link?
Keep up the good work 😉
