wrong He WAS a man of great intellegence. He WAS a great filmmaker. Star Wars WAS such a great saga before the SE OT and the PT ruined it. Lucas and all those responsible for the Star Wars saga WERE great.

I don't agree. I think 20 years from now, people who are kids now will feel passionately about Harry Potter maybe not as passionately we are about the OT, but certainly more passionately then they will feel in regards to the PT(with the exception of Jimbo or course). I believe that people can still get entranced watching movies.

that is a big time difference.

they why does everything in the PT look and feel more futuristic than the OT?

the PT take place in a time of overwhelming peace, whereas the OT is in a time of great opression.
the PT takes play during the golden age of the republic, jsut b4 and while it falls. the OT takes place after the fall of a civilizetion that existed for thousands of years, therefore there is it is going to be inheartently dark, asposed to the PT which should be very bright.

true. But the PT didn't have to take place in peace. It could have started up in the middle of the Clone wars.

3. the scope of the PT is much much bigger then the OT. the OT was planetary whereas the PT was Galactic. this difference in scope is key.
cus it makes the movie impersonal therefore distroying what made the OT so great.

the scope of the OT wasn't Galactic? lets see.......a story about a group of rebel freedom fighters trying to overthrow an evil Galactic empire and free the whole Galaxy is not of Galactic scope? hmmmm, then what is?

the fact is that the PT is different, and this doesnt mean that the PT sucks all it means is that the PT and the OT are differenet which is what they were fundimentaly suppose to be.

wrong, they both have the Star Wars name and they are both from the same universe and are both part the same movie series therefor they should have a simular look and feel.
But the fact that they don't have the same feel is not why the PT stinks (in my opinion). It stinks because of a bad storyline, bad acting, flat characters, too much CGI, too many plot holes, and Jar Jar Stinks.

Here is another point. Lets say you're right and reason we old time Stars Wars fans don't like the PT is that it is different. If that is true shouldn't Lucas have realized this when he was deciding how he was going to make the PT. He should have said to himself "if I make the PT this way(the way he made it, that is) it will be different from the OT and OT fans won't like it. So maybe I should make the PT in a style that more closely resembles the OT so the fans will like it more" . So to agree with your point is to agree that Lucas is stupid for making the PT the way he did. A smarter wiser person would make the PT in a way that kept the fans happy. But hey, what can we expect from a man too stupid to release the O OT on DVD?

I am sure I can post this and you'll understand...the magic of star wars. It defined my generation and no, its not like Harry Potter, Matrix or even Lord of the Rings. It was Sci-Fi, yes, but it was amazing. It was incomprehensible and incomparable to anything ever before or even since. And we knew it. That score and that scrawl together still gives me chills. The figures, I had them all. I lived it, breathed it. I remember bludgeoning my brothers with the now banned hard plastic, non-collapsable, glow-in-the-dark light sabers of course in a dark room. Beating each other senseless. Making vader noises. It captivated us. It moved us. There was good and evil in a clear way, not the convuluted mess of most movies today (though LOTR does this well). It was emotions and humanity. The relationships between the characters transcended the sci-fi setting. They had life, they weren't stoic like the new mess or overly cartoony. I am saying all this because I have seen the originals over a 100 times a piece. And growing up I heard the rumors of a trilogy to come before the IV-VI episodes and then a VII-IX trilogy, but years ticked by, the cast got older, I got older, and I put it aside as fantasy. Then I heard a rumor, and another of a new trilogy. The Phantom Menace is coming, people camping out for weeks. This is it. I sat in that seat, again hearing that score, seeing that scrawl with chills...16 YEARS, I've waited and its real. Then Jar-Jar, kiddie anakin, jar-jar, stoic emotionless character, cartoony scenes (was it me or did the technology from 1977 using the models look more realistic), the big fish scooby-doo scene, a whole race of Jar-Jar's...OK the pod-race cool, good, the darth maul scenes, awesome, ok its getting better, ummm wait, did he just die? Uh, Jar-Jar lives and Darth Maul dies (ok, lucas realising the cult status of boba fett after killing him does jango...hmm, duh, maul was that type of cool). I was crushed. I stayed in denial and in fact never went back to see it in the theater again. I saw it on DVD and saw the ATOC several times ( a vast improvement), but I stayed in denial. This was movies that were decent, but in my mind I had to divorce them from the ones I love so I didn't get sick inside. Because if they were Star Wars, my expectations were too high, my love too great. I'd forgive any, but Luca$. 16 years to prepare, 16 years to get it right, 16 years to work a real script with a monsterous fan base willing to contribute. And we got "jar-jar cartoons". I've put it all out of my mind over the last few years. The more I heard about Luca$ releasing one movie at a time of the original when he released all his others I thought. Screw this guy, how much money do you need (although now there is a box set coming out of the SE's). It's sickening. Then I heard about edits. The movies being edited, to how they should've been. I did some searches and came upon this site (Yes I love the OT as well another thing Luca$ messed up dearly). I got giddy again. People that love the original. People like Rikter and Magnoliafan that love the mythos so much that they collect, remaster, edit and improve. Giving the fans what they wanted all along (isn't that the point and further, why couldn't he realize this - now it's bigger than him and $$$). Just thought I'd share a love hate story and what brought me here. I love the posts. I love the forward-minded thinking. I love the dreaming of what if here. And I love that no one here blindly praises all that is Luca$. Star wars is mine and yours, not his, he just created it. That's my story. And I'll still get chills from that score and that scrawl no matter what.

now, do you believe that any one who is a kid right now, while the PT is coming out, is going feel and write as passionately about the PT in twenty years? I doubt it. I wish I could separate them from the OT like Bossk does, but I can't. All I keep thinking about is what could and should have been. If you like the PT, then enjoy. But I don't and can't. Sorry, that's how it is.

I agree its nothing new but that don't make it right.

yeah, I have to agree with you, it is a rare occurance

perhaps I should have originaly said "if someone wants to make an argument for or against somthing, one of the things they should do is base it on the facts. It is not the only thing they should do, but it is one of the things they should do." that better GundarK?
