Apparently Jordan Horowitz (the guy holding the correct card in your gif and video) is also lying.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/27/movies/oscars-best-picture-moonlight-academy-awards.html

Jordan Horowitz knew something was wrong the moment he saw people in headsets scurrying across the Oscars stage.

Only a minute earlier Faye Dunaway had said the words that Mr. Horowitz had longed to hear — “La La Land” — as she announced the best picture winner for the 2017 Academy Awards. Mr. Horowitz, a producer on that film, and colleagues and cast members raced to the stage. Mr. Horowitz spoke first — “Thank you to the academy,” he began — but his excitement quickly dissipated, as he recalled the shocking end to the night in an interview with The New York Times after the ceremony.

“I’m holding the envelope and the award, and I had just given my speech, and there are people on the stage with headsets, and I thought, ‘That doesn’t seem right,’” Mr. Horowitz said at the Governors Ball, the official post-Oscars celebration.

“They asked to see my envelope, which I haven’t opened,” he recalled. “Clearly something was wrong. They open my envelope, and it says ‘Emma Stone, “La La Land.”’ So clearly something is not right. The guys in headsets were going around with urgency looking for the other envelope — it just kind of appeared,” he said. “One of the guys opens it, and it says ‘Moonlight,’ and I took it onstage and went to the microphone and said what I said.”

*sigh*

I sincerely apologize to Frink and the other posters and viewers of this thread for the errors that were made during my posts. I had been mistakenly convinced by the video that the category envelope Beatty originally had was the same one that was taken from him and displayed on camera and when discovered, this was unfortunately not immediately corrected. I am currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred.

Warren Beatty, you are a jackass! I am willing to bet you were either drunk or high or combination thereof.

edit: Daye Dunaway is also an idiot since she is the one that actually said La La Land had won.

You do realize they were given the wrong card, right?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2017/02/27/most-shocking-moment-in-oscars-history-presenters-call-the-wrong-winner-for-best-picture/?utm_term=.9fcb0f2d1bb0

Well I don’t know what the hell happened, cause on camera they pulled the card right out of Beatty’s hands and it said “Moonlight” on it. I know he claimed the card he had said “La La Land”, but on camera they pulled the card right out of his hand and showed it to the camera and it said “Moonlight”. Either way, Beatty still looked off to me, either somewhat drunk or somewhat high.

Or old?

I didn’t actually watch the end so I didn’t see it, but you are the first person I’ve heard say the card had Moonlight on it. Did anyone else see this? Every story I’ve read said he was given the wrong envelope.

Watch a video of it.

Yup. Or they voted for Stein or Johnson. Regardless, they share the blame.

I can have some understanding for Republicans and the Conservative minded voting for Johnson instead of Hillary. It is one thing to ask those kinds of people to not vote for Trump, the Republican Nominee, it is quite another to ask them to vote for a Democrat. Stein is another matter. Anyone voting for her when you ought to easily be able to see that Trump needed to be stopped, should be ashamed of themselves.

I understand why they wouldn’t vote for Hillary but they still share in the blame for giving us all Trump.

But still, I am not going ask that someone like Ferris vote for Hillary, but I would ask someone like him to not vote for Trump.

But if they don’t like Hillary, why would they vote for her? I don’t understand this logic.

TO STOP TRUMP!

If they don’t like her, they probably wouldn’t have voted for her regardless of who else is on the ticket, and most likely did not think Trump was that bad.

If they watched the campaign and the debates and whatnot and still thought Trump wasn’t that bad, they are blind/stupid.

Furthermore, frankly it’s long overdue a third party had power in government. I do not see how not voting for your candidate is childish.

I agree, a third party is long overdue, but this wasn’t the year for it.

Agreed. Anyone who voted for a candidate that represented their beliefs is a piece of shit, don’t they know that being an adult means making decisions that Frink agrees with? 😛

Fact: Trump needed to be stopped
Fact: The best chance of doing that was voting for Hillary(being an adult means being smart enough to know the winner was either going to be Hillary or Trump)

Here’s an argument then.
They’re illegal immigrants.
Cherry picking a few in terrible circumstances to try and paint this picture of Trump being an evil dictator is disingenuous.
Or is the law suddenly not something we have to take into consideration because feelings? Wonderful, we can start running the nation solely on feelings, who needs laws anyway right?

No, they’re people.

They are people and they are illegal immigrants. But yes, some are in terrible circumstances and need help. Calling them illegal immigrants does not mean they are not people and are unworthy of help and sympathy. It just means they entered the country illegally, which they did.

The fact that they’re illegal immigrants. Criminals.
Highlight a few cases of said criminals being sick does not change the fact that they came here illegally and thus fall under the banner of criminals.
If you start picking and choosing who you deem to be worse criminals based on their health, status, etc., you start heading down a slippery slope. Who gets to decide these things? At the end of the day they came here illegally and knew the consequences of being caught. Does the law not apply to them now because they’re sick? Does that mean the law doesn’t apply to actual US citizens if they’re sick too?

What about the ones that can here as kids with their parents? They may not have fully understood what they were doing and the consequences thereof, they just went where their parents were going and did what they told them to do. I think we should at least have some sympathy for them. What about the kids born here of illegal immigrants? They are not responsible for the situation and yet are being separated from mommy and/or daddy. I think we should have some sympathy for them to. However I do think you make a point in that this a society run by law and not by feeling. That is a valid point.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Moonlight, but I’ll just say, as someone who has seen all 90 Best Picture winners, it is nothing like the rest of them.

interesting considering that there are vast differences between the rest.

As I said, I’ve seen them all, so I’m aware there are differences. The point is the degree of difference.

If La La Land had won, it’d be the eleventh musical to win,

True, but Musicals are not as common as they used to be.

and the fourth film about the entertainment industry to win this decade.

I didn’t know that.

We would be here all day if I listed all the ways Moonlight is unlike other Best Picture winners, but suffice to say it doesn’t really fit into any of the usual boxes.

Was it a drama? Most Best Picture winners are dramas.

The Greatest Show on Earth
Rocky
The Godfather
Gigi
A Man for All Seasons
Patton
All Quiet on the Western Front
The Broadway Melody
Gone With The Wind

This are all vastly different movies and all Best Picture winners.

I sure hope so, but I’m worried about the Bernie bros throwing another fit because they didn’t get their again.

Maybe Bernie’s supporters are justifiably upset over the way he was treated by the DNC and the apparent corruption in that organization, and this vote could be interpreted as more of the same from a party that claims to be for the people while it continues to sell out to corporate interests. This is exactly the kind of behavior that led to the Tea Party, and I’m not liberal enough for a Democrat equivalent to show up and crash the party in 2018.

Bernie’s supporters are justified in being upset how the DNC acted, no question…and yet nothing justified refusing to vote for Clinton and potentially helping Trump get elected,

Plenty Bernie supporters voted for Hillary. And it isn’t the fault of Bernie supporters that Hillary was a bad candidate that people couldn’t stomach voting for.

and yet they could stomach voting for Trump???

Sometimes being an adult means making a choice you don’t like because the only alternative is worse.

Those are hollow words.

Those are b.s. words. Frink is absolutely correct. Sometimes you have to choose between the lesser of two evils.
