No one was telling him to be silence about whatever it is he thinks should be done about these mass shootings and guns.

No one? Are you sure?

Well who do you think was telling him to be silent about whatever he thinks should be don about mass shooting and guns? Even if someone did, he doesn’t have to listen to them. 1st amendment.

Also a big bleep you goes out to Wil Wheaton. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/11/05/wil-wheaton-angers-people-faith-with-furious-tweet-at-paul-ryan.html

Notice Wheaton does make a genuine apology (to people of faith), in that same article for losing his cool towards Ryan.

oops. missed that.

What you are perhaps missing, is that some people feel waaaaay more anger and frustration about this issue, than they feel sadness.

They should feel both.

I’m sure they felt sad and in need of prayer, long, long ago but the amount of death and the amount of inaction (from politicians like Ryan) since then, mean that him saying people “need our prayers right now” yet again, instead of people “need us actually do something for once!” seem pretty f*cking insulting and hypocritical.

Then like I said, criticize Ryan for not doing whatever it is you think he should do, instead of criticizing him for saying the people effected need our prayers. They are not mutually exclusive activities.

While I understand the point of why he walked out, I still think he was wrong. I think it one of the things wrong today, we politicize everything. Now we politicize moments of silence. It is ridiculous.

Rep. Lieu said “I respect their right to do that and I myself have participated in many of them. But I can’t do this again. I’ve been to too many moments of silences. Just in my short career in Congress, three of the worst mass shootings in US history have occurred. I will not be silent. What we need is we need action, we need to pass gun safety legislation now.”

No one was telling him to be silence about whatever it is he thinks should be done about these mass shootings and guns. He doesn’t have to be silent about that stuff. All he had to do was remain silent for a moment in respect for those that died, then he could have screamed his head off. He acted like the moment of silence was some sort of attempt to silence debate about guns and mass shootings and used it like a catchphrase “I will not be silent” that is wrong.

Also a big bleep you goes out to Wil Wheaton. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/11/05/wil-wheaton-angers-people-faith-with-furious-tweet-at-paul-ryan.html He can criticize Paul Ryan for not doing all you think he should do in regards to mass shootings and guns and I might very well agree. What he shouldn’t do is criticize Ryan for saying the victims and their families need our prayers. There is nothing wrong with saying that. Saying people should pray, doesn’t at all stop one from doing whatever else you think he should or shouldn’t do. Criticize him for not passing gun control legislation, but don’t criticize him for saying people need prayer. Also, Wil, keep your bigotry towards religion to yourself and please remember that this shooting happened in a church, to church goers. I doubt they would object to people praying from them.

Kings James Version? Pfft. New Revised Standard Version or bust.

eh. New International Version or New Living Translation.
2011 NIV is fine. I’m not picky about it being the '84 NIV like some people might be.

New King James Version might be “poetic”, but I imagine that wasn’t the intent of the original authors of the scrolls/books (outside of Psalms and Song of Solomon, obviously). KJV has also been said to be the least accurate translation, but is widely popular because a) there is no copyright; and b) it was the first ever english translation widely available to the public at large.

and c) Too those of us that have used it since childhood, it just sounds and feels right. I am not a KJV onlyist, but there is just something about the KJV.

Is it the inaccuracies that really hit home to you?

No, it is the reading of things like Psalm 23 and other famous sections of the Bible that hit home, it is the cadence and artistic and poetic abilities that hit home. It just feels right to me, I don’t know how else to say it. Of course I also use the NIV 84 and other translations as well.

Stephen King’s IT, Page 423 of 1041. (7 pt. font on Universal Book Reader for Android. Physical book is in storage.)

which font family?

I can’t tell if that’s a serious question. E-Readers usually have multiple selectable fonts.

it wasn’t?

I also don’t understand why you would buy the physical book, but not read it. Reading a physical book is usually faster (according to the random research i have seen, google it yourself). Maybe if RayRogers was reading the book he would be done by now :p

That is intended to be good natured ribbing by the way.

Usually on the bus getting to work and also campus. Even bought the book well over 20 years ago, it’s in storage, and that’s just too much shit to lug around all day, everyday.

Also reading: Who Gives a Flying Fuck? by Handy Wankstein III.

It would seem I missed the ‘joke’ of this - it may well not have been an insult - and I have misinterpreted the last line of the post above.

My apologies to RayRogers - who is as of right now - unbanned.

and yet he was still allowed to buy guns. unbelievable.

He wasn’t “still allowed”. The information barring him from purchasing guns was never submitted to the proper authorities where it would have shown up on any background check.

that is kinda what I meant. Sounds like multiple different agencies failed to properly report.

Air Force, whatever agency should have reported his Federal conviction for domestic assault, something tells me being in and especially escaping a mental hospital should probably keep one from buying guns so I bet that was not properly reported by whomever should have reported it. Multiple entities failed.

I want a physical Bible. I want my Bible in leather cover with gold gilding, not some impersonal text on a kindle.

The Bible does not work well on an eBook Reader. But on an app, like the YouVersion app Life.Curch made, it works very well indeed.

I like both. Not either, but both.

Perhaps, but if I had to choose, I would easily take the physical edition over an e-edition. But yes, both have their uses.

There is also weight consideration. Some books are very heavy and an e-reader and hold a lot of books, much more than one could carry in their hands. But there is just something about a physical book. For example, an e-book could not replace a physical book from my father’s personal library. Also I would not want an e-Bible. I want a physical Bible. I want my Bible in leather cover with gold gilding, not some impersonal text on a kindle.

A day after a gunman massacred parishioners in a small Texas church, the Air Force admitted on Monday that it had failed to enter the man’s domestic violence court-martial into a federal database that could have blocked him from buying the rifle he used to kill 26 people.

Under federal law, the conviction of the gunman, Devin P. Kelley, for domestic assault on his wife and toddler stepson — he had cracked the child’s skull — should have stopped Mr. Kelley from legally purchasing the military-style rifle and three other guns he acquired in the last four years.

“The Air Force has launched a review of how the service handled the criminal records of former Airman Devin P. Kelley following his 2012 domestic violence conviction,” the Air Force said in a statement.

The statement said Heather Wilson, the Air Force secretary, and Gen. David Goldfein, the Air Force chief of staff, had ordered the Air Force inspector general to “conduct a complete review of the Kelley case.”

I think there needs to be an outside investigation of the Air Force’s record keeping, for incompetence.

No. That attitude towards fellow members isn’t on - and you’ve been warned about your attitude before.

Enjoy some time off from the site - I hope you use it wisely and improve on the attitude - as you are a decent poster without it…

weird. Who was he giving a dig to, why was he giving a dig that person or people? I don’t get it.
