Ah... that's better!
Ah... that's better!
Ha ha haaa!!!! Good spot! I seemed to have uploaded the wrong JPEG! Whoops! Be rest assured... it does actually say Return Of The Jedi on the spine!
I'll set 'em to the proper printing size, no worries... I just always produce at a slightly higher resolution than printing.
Yeah they're just thumbnails. The proper ones are about 4000px wide or something!
I've posted these over on the covers forum, but thought I'd post here too. The last three covers may not be available as I'm kinda seeking approval from the artist.
1. Star Wars - A New Hope : REVISITED (Cover Version 1)
2. Star Wars - A New Hope : REVISITED (Cover Version 2)
[This one was modifyed to fit the theme running through each cover set by The Empire Strikes Back poster used, and a theme that will run into the prequels too. This one may yet still get modifyed more if I can figure out how to make the Death Star and Vader a little bigger but in proportion to the rest of the cover]
3. Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back : REVISITED
4. Star Wars - Return Of The Jedi : REVISITED (Cover Version 1)
5. Star Wars - Return Of The Jedi : REVISITED (Cover Version 2)
[Just an alternate version to keep with the theme of the retro poster look. Also a colour change. If I can find a better version of the poster used this will be smarted up sometime... as it displays a crease across the pic... booo!!!!]
Now, the following covers use a great series of retro-style artwork by a guy named Tom Whalen... you may have seen his artwork before, I love it and fancied using it for a cover collection. It may not be to everyone's taste, but to me it makes it all feel very cool indeed... enjoy!
6. Star Wars - A New Hope : REVISITED (COMIC-STYLE)
7. Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back : REVISITED (COMIC-STYLE)
8. Star Wars - Return Of The Jedi : REVISITED (COMIC-STYLE)
That's all folks!!!
I must stress, like with anything on this thread... I have used this artwork currently without permission. Bad, bad me. That's why we all know that no money is changing hands over any of this. I would hate for Tom Whalen to hunt me down and gut me like a fish! I think of it as a design project only... at least that's what I'm gonna say in court.
Okay... here we go. You've seen some of this before, but there's some new stuff here... all these covers are available for anyone that wants them. Just message me your email address and which ones you want and I'll mail 'em on over! Peace.

oh and yeah... will be posting more covers soon. An alternate ROTJ, and an edited ANH... people can take their pick if anyone wants to download hi-rez ones. Have begun work on a more retrofied PT cover lot. Also will be posting some alternate covers soon...
Dammit! Haven't checked back in a while... too busy at the mo and missed that ebay item. Not that I can afford it at all right now anyway... but cheers for the heads up. Really, really wanna get that item!
These images going up are amazing. DoubleOFive's got me salivating with those screenshots. ESB is never gonna have looked so good. I do FX work for my own short films, but all this has gotten my brain buggled! No idea how some of this is achieved! Stonking work peeps! Damn, I wish I'd studied more of the visual detailed of the film, then I could lend a hand... but looks like everyone's got it covered to such details as I have never really noticed (too wrapped up in the storytelling I guess!)...
This is gonna kick some ass.
Anyone got access to a hi-rez (or near) version of this pic..?
Cheers Ady, I was thinking along the same lines about putting Vader into the Jedi one. Gonna mock something up myself and will post on the covers thread next week. Hope it's all coming along nicely, and really looking forward to ESB!!!
ABC... that's a great poster, not seen it before. Though does look like a movie in which Boba Fett leads an army of biker scouts against the dastardly Nazis and their russian counterparts... in the Temple of Doom! I'm thinking of mocking up a poster myself using some McQuarrie artwork or whatnot. I'm also gonna take on Ady's hint at putting Vader in the picture if I can, which I was beginnig to think of myself.
"THis is where the fun begins..."
Think that may have been my fault. Topic secured elsewhere! With regards to the Luke line of "father"... never had a problem with this, infact it always felt like a temptation because... well it's his dad! That's what i thought as a kid mind.
That's a fat book! I want it! I interviewed McQuarrie back in '99... perhaps I can just ask for a nice signed copy if he still rememb... er... yeah, that's not likely.
Solo... you work is bringing back the childhood memories. Now all you need is to add a figure in a small plastic portion to the front of each DVD! Really like the work, sir.
And Xhonzi, what's this McQuarrie book that goes for $250 on ebay???
Enigmas... I think thats just the way the program Darth Solo used is casting a shadow on the covers... that dark portion isnt actually there on the versions I created... Damn my firefox browser, not letting me add punctuation... just brings up Quick Links. Thats useless.
I would also like to add that I would agree with Xhonzi about the Jedi cover... they just werent retro-minded enough when doing their poster campaign. I am open to suggestions.
These kick ass Darth Solo! reminds me of the Kenner toys... What are the backs like?
Didn't know you could do that in Photoshop... I'm guessing I understand about 2% of the program... just enough to get by.
That looks cool!!!! How did you mock that up? Looks great! Have been umming and arr-ing as to whether to adjust the ANH cover to fit with the 'exploding box' design of the other two. Might try it out.
Turns out that was the image I used for the ESB one. I re-did my ROTJ one over on the covers thread.
The ANH one is done unless someone can supply a hi-rez image of that forgotten poster... ESB is gonna get the front revamped to higher rez and Jedi is here... (removing the special edition font and going for the classic font (the chunky boxed version didn't look good so went with the other one... I think it looks good though)...
All covers will be available for download when I'm done!
Chunky! Cheers ABC... my search skills are feeble.
It ain't a particularly big image I was working off for the ANH cover... another poster I would love to find H-rez!
Thanks satanika! That hi-rez version of the Jedi poster is exactly what I've been looking for. Will spruce up my cover when I get a chance. And apologies to Frink if I missed thanking him for sending me the thread... not on top of my s*** lately!
