First time seeing the film, but it included the Buck Rodgers trailer before it, which leads me to believe it's the late 70s rerelease version.

The Buck Rodgers trailer was in the original 1971 release as well, a 1971 review in Variety mentioned it. But everything seems to indicate you guys saw the 1978 re-release version.

The five 1888' reels on the BFI label explains the running time they had on their site.

Yeah definitely the '78 version, also it had the Saul Bass Warners logo.

Just saw the 35mm print at the Prince Charles

It's definitely a print from early on, it was pretty rough and beginning to fade. Totally watchable, color came and went from shot to shot.

The Keep - Satellite Rip (Released)
Time

http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Scott-Glenn/dp/B00HLVEFB6/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1391648796&sr=1-1&keywords=the+keep

This is a second listing of the Keep on Amazon, this one is for rental and purchase as opposed to the other listing on Amazon which is streaming for free on prime (the 4:3 video master, which recently popped up on Netflix as well, as opposed to the widescreen master that was previously there)

Anyone think this is worth a rental or purchase for capping, etc.

Also the Keep documentary facebook page has been consistently updated with some great stuff, definitely a very exciting project:

In addition here's a better quality version of the alternate ending that popped up on youtube:

and some behind the scenes footage and an interview with Mann as well:

Still trying to look for a version of the film superior to the Netflix rip

yeah, looks just like the video master, which has some decent detail, but very dated and the colors are all wrong. Probably the best thing about the NF rip is the color, which strongly matches the very saturated theatrical look (the 35mm print I saw had pinkish skin tones for example). Also, I rented The Keep via Google Play/YouTube and it's the newer master, but it's very compressed.

Ah well, the search or wait for a release of a superior master continues.

The Keep is available to rent or purchase in SD on Google Play or YouTube: https://play.google.com/store/movies/details/The_Keep?id=UjAqWOnXu18&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm1vdmllLVVqQXFXT25YdTE4Il0......no idea if it's the 4x3 video master or 2.35:1. May look further into it....anyone else interested?

I was also able to see this recently on 35mm, as expected it was gorgeous. Hopefully more news of this will come, as Paramount (or Warner?) seems pretty lax about distributing this digitally.

It is not currently on Netflix in the US, it is on Amazon instant, albeit in 4x3 and clearly taken from the video master.

Since it's Paramount, Olive is possible. However Paramount dumped most of its catalog (and almost certainly The Keep with it) with Warner and it definitely seems like a title Warner might be interested in, maybe through the Warner Archive. It'd be awesome if Arrow got a crack at it... who holds the rights to it in the UK? Paramount as well?

I've heard rumblings about a new HD master being made a few years ago. It'd be great if Mann was involved, but it's obviously not a priority for him, I don't know if he's even talked publicly about it since before its theatrical release.

Speculation aside, it would be really nice if someone in the UK were able to record and capture it the next time it appears on Sky.

Glad that there's interest in this title.

I'm in the US and I haven't seen it pop up on tv. Anyone ever record it from Sky (and does sky show it in 2:35:1)?

Nevertheless, I was able to grab what appears to be the Netflix rip online after a lot of searching (I had the link here, but that might be against OT guidelines)

(Again, I'm not connected with CG, usenet, etc.)

I'm quite happy with it. Its 1.45 GB 720p MKV, so it's very compressed, but much cleaner than the LD rips I've found, the colors and sound are very nice as well. I'm curious when this master is from, created for a DVD perhaps, I believe folks had said that while it was 720p streaming on Netflix, the master didn't appear to be true HD.

I've burned it to DVD as well and happy with the results, but again if there is anything out there superior to the NF rip out there, I'd like to know.

For reference...

Here's a cap of my copy of the LD rip:
