Silly?  Well that's just crazy talk!  How is it silly?

Oh come on! That BS about needing to appear to be the bad guy so Harvey could be remembered as a hero. Pretty goofy stuff.

Well if he didn't do that, then the Joker wins.  The whole message behind the movie is to raise of the question of what is truly right and how far are you willing to go to do what's right.  If the public were to catch word that the most law abiding citizen in Gotham City could become a vengeance seeking murderer, then all hope is lost.  And in a city as bad as Gotham, without hope, there's nothing left.  By becoming that villain, Batman becomes the ultimate hero.  He'll let people think he's just as bad as the crooks he puts away if it means doing the right thing.

Every other superhero movie ends with the hero being loved by the masses after he defeats the evil villain.  But here, it's the complete opposite.  Batman can't let the Joker win, so he takes the only option available; saying that he killed five people, which is something everyone knows he's against ("You've got rules").

But I find it pretty ironic that you feel TDK isn't a Batman movie, while enthusiasts such as myself feel that it captures every significant part of Batman into the ultimate Batman movie.  Plus it gives the best ending in all of comic book film history, really showing the true nature of Batman.

I felt the ending to TDK was silly and contrived. Me and my friend were laughing in the theater when we saw the ending, and I am pretty sure that is not the reacting the film makers hoped to evoke. The friend I went to see it with is a huge fan of the Batman comics too. He thought Batman Begins was by far the better film. I tend to agree with him, I can't say I really cared for The Dark Knight all that much. I think the insane over hype really brought it down a bit for me.

I think the reason alot of people will say things like TDK didn't feel like a Batman movie, is because they were introduced to Batman via the first Burton film, which was extremely unBatman like, and that set their standard.

Silly?  Well that's just crazy talk!  How is it silly?

Anything that involves bringing back or "reimagining" a dead franchise ala Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, Predator, the list goes on....

They didn't stop making Dracula or Wolfman movies, did they?  Freddy, Jason, and Michael have become the new "monsters."  They're going to be redone time and time again because they've earned that status.  They're just as iconic if not more than the old Universal baddies and iconic characters deserve to be retold throughout the years with different perspectives, actors, etc.

But only if they plan to do a series of stories with an older Batman (and 12 year old Robin) a few years down the road from this one.

Well, if Nolan is in charge, you will never see Robin in any of the films.  This is a young Batman and adding in a 12 year old who wears a bright red and green outfit really doesn't fit into this universe.  And if they do bring in Robin, count on Bale leaving because he doesn't want Robin, either.  I recall him saying something along the lines of he would chain himself outside WB studios to protest.

And with a new slate of DC films making their way toward production, I don't think that WB is really going to depend much on Batman.  Green Lantern is getting released in two years and the Flash is getting his script written as we speak.  So there's two franchises right there and you can never forget about Superman, even if WB is clueless on what they want to do with him.  They've seen Marvel's success and the fact that Marvel's going to win the race of first mega-on screen treatment is making WB executives blood boil.

Well. I didn't like Batman Begins. And Christian Bale was annoying as batman. He grunted the whole damn movie. But it is my opinion. I would like another Batman movie as long as Johnny Depp isn't in it like some of the rumours are saying. But it has to be as good as Batman 2.

Damn, you don't like Batman Begins, that's bad enough, but don't tell me you think Batman Returns is great.  That's even worse.

Actually the only batman I really liked was BATMAN. Dark Knight was good but I don't really see it as a batman movie. It was different which is why I liked it

It certainly is different.  Batman killing people?  What the fuck?  But I find it pretty ironic that you feel TDK isn't a Batman movie, while enthusiasts such as myself feel that it captures every significant part of Batman into the ultimate Batman movie.  Plus it gives the best ending in all of comic book film history, really showing the true nature of Batman.

Here's a weird one.

I was only born about a week after Star Wars was first released, so I didn't actually see it until Empire came around - our local cinema (like many, I'm sure) was showing the pair as a double bill, so that was my first exposure to the saga (a pretty intensive one, I guess!)

Anyway, I VIVIDLY recall Empire having a completely different title sequence from Star Wars - no crawl, no big theme, just photos of the characters with their names, underscored with some fairly tranquil music.

Retrospectively, I can just about rationalise it with the assumption that the cinema showed the Empire trailer directly after Star Wars, before the intermission - the main trailer certainly does have stills of the characters appearing amidst the live-action footage. But still, that's not really what I remember...

Like I say, weird! And it looks pretty absurd in writing, but I thought I'd share anyway...

People who watched the PT before the OT
Time

Watching the prequels first pretty much destroys everything Darth Vader was thought to be before in the original trilogy.  It's no longer a surprise when Vader reveals he is Luke's father and Vader looses a large portion of being one of the greatest villains in film history.  He becomes a tragic character and not the man in black who was a force of evil.  Knowing that the goofy little kid in The Phantom Menace is the guy in the suit just makes me sad.

I don't know any adults who like the prequels, so that means there's hope for the children of tomorrow.  I'm thankful for having been born before the re-release of the VHS tapes and growing up with the true trilogy.  Even though kids today will now have two different parts of the saga to watch, I have a good feeling that most parents (if not all) will introduce their children to the good Star Wars movies first, and if they want to, the prequels eventually.  Only to have those kids grow up and know which films are the best and continue this pattern in a never ending cycle.  May the force be with them.
