I thought the job they did with Shaw in ROTJ was excellent, If I look back on the original the, eyebrows look strange to me.

I guess if you dismiss the prequels you hate the fact Hayden's ghost is in ROTJ, but for those who didn't grow up with just seeing Shaw, it might be different, so I showed both scenes to 3 kids and asked them if the Shaw or Hayden Anakin ghost made more sense, 2 of the 3 told me that young Anakin made more sense to them since "the old guy" doesn't look anything like the Anakin they know, my daughter though Anakin would probably choose to look young instead of old, and my son suprised me by saying both made sense to him, I asked him which one made you feel better about the ending he said the new Anakin.

I didn't get into detailed questions about redemption, I just wanted their gut reactions.

Personally I don't like any of the deleted scenes on the DVD:

Yoda to Dagobah looks great to start with but as soon as the ship starts landing visually it doesn't look right to me...Yoda phone home.

I would have liked Obi-Wan/Yoda and baby Luke leaving the Tantive in a ship similar to the one Yoda leaves the Wookie planet in, landing, then having Qui-Gon' s ghost appear and explain about how he couldn't interfere and the Ghost thing, and would have explained how Luke felt Dagobah was familiar which isn't a big deal but would be a nice touch.

The Shaaki-Ti scene looks like an event out of the video game more than actual movie, poor acting.

The senate stuff is ok, I never cared for too much political stuff in SW, unless it was short & sweet like in ANH.

I only scenes I'd add are Palpatines shuttle approaching, and Dooku's "just because there are two of you..." clip from the video game.

I'm suprised I haven't heard of more people taking a stab at cleaning up this movie, IMO it's easily the best of the prequels, and shows the most promise with some re-working here and there.

Before I finish (which will probably be awhile considering my limitations with hardware/time) I'd like to get my hands on as many ROTS fan edits as possible, to compare and evaluate with. Every time I see a new edit there is something that catches me off guard in how clever and simple it was, yet I completely missed it.

I'm a little late discovering this project, I took a hiatus from SW after ROTS came out, and am just now returning to OT, since starting up my plans on a cleanup edit of ROTS.

I've already picked up so many invaluable tips...many thanx.

Everything you guys are doing looks excellent so far, I only wish Lucas had as much care and respect for his own original films that you guys are showing restoring them frame by frame.

I wish I could help you guys out in some way, I'll be checking your site out from time to time...best of luck.

Also thanks for the suggestions of removing "i just learned a truth" and just keeping "He won't give up his power, I think Chancellor Palpatine is a Sith Lord" in the Mace/Anakin segment...It seems like an obvious improvement that i didn't think of.

Here's the cut I've made on the Mace/Palpatine/Anakin confrontation I mentioned earlier:

I'm pretty happy with it, but I've always learned that you should always be open to suggestions.

The cuts i've made during the Palpatine/Mace duel limit the amount of awkward facial expressions and a few uncoordinated looking moves by Ian with a lightsaber.

Palpatine: Master Windu, I take it General Grevious has been destroyed then.....I must say you are here sooner than expected.
Windu: In the name of the Galactic senate of the Republic you're under arrest Chancellor.
Palpatine: Are you threatening me master Jedi?
Windu: The senate will decide your fate.
Palpatine: I am the senate.
Windu: Not yet.
Palpatine: It's treason then.

*Edit* Palpatine spins through the air, lands and instantly stabs a Jedi, instead of the momentary delay. Also while Windu and Palpatine are fighting, some of Palps facial expressions are removed, and a few snippets which make Palpatine appear to be much more graceful with a lightsaber.

everything else remains the same up until the dialoge starts again:

Windu: You are under arrest my lord.
Palpatine: Anakin, I told you it would come to this, I was right, the Jedi are taking over.
Windu: The opression of the Sith will never return, you have lost.
Palpatine (removed no,no) no, you will die (shooting lightning).

(removed the Mace/Palp dialogue "He's a trator, he's is the traitor") small cuts to remove wording the dialogue.

Palpatine: (Palps transforming) I have the power to save the ones you love (removed "you must choose")

(Removed "don't listen to him Anakin")

Palpatine: Don't let him kill me...I can't hold it any longer, I can't, I'm weak, i'm too weak....Help me, help me.
Windu: I'm going to end this one and for all.
Anakin: you can't, he must stand trial.
Windu: he has control of the senate and the courts, he's too dangerous to be kept alive.
Palpatine: Oh, don't kill me please.

(removed, it's not the Jedi way)

Anakin: He must live.
Palpatine: please don't.
Anakin: I need him.
Palpatine: Please don't.
Anakin: no!

Anakin slices off Mace's hand (I totally removed palpatine yelling "power.....unlimited power" remaining is Windu being zapped by lightning then flying out the window to his death.

(removed "what have I done?")

Anakin slumps down...palpatine rises.
Palpatine: You are fulfilling your destiny Anakin......become my apprentice.

(removed "I will do whatever you ask")
(removed "gooood"

Anakin: just help me save Padme's life, I can't live without her.
Palpatine: To cheat death is a power only one has achieved, but if we work together, I know we can discover the secret.
Anakin: I pledge myself to your teachings.

revoved/cut the first "good", kept the second one in

Palpatine: The force is strong with you....a powerful sith you will become, henceforth, you shall be known as darth.....vader.

(removed "thank you my master"

Palpatine: rise...

removed yoda feeling the disturbance

Palpatine: because the council did not trust you my young apprentice, i believe you are the only Jedi with no knowledge of this plot.....when the Jedi learn what has transpired here, they will kill us along with all the senators.
Anakin: I agree.
Palpatine: The councils next move will be against the senate.....every single jedi (removed "including your friend obi-wan kenobi") is now an enemy of the republic.
Anakin: I understand master.
Palpatine: we must move quickly, the jedi are relentless, if they are not all destroyed it will be civil war without end.....first i want you to go to the jedi temple, we will catch them off-balance, do what must be done lord vader, do not hesitate, show no mercy, only then will you be strong enough with the darkside.

(removed "to save padme" since Palps just stated he didn't know the secret yet.)

Anakin: what about the other Jedi spread across the galaxy?
Palpatine: their betrayal will be delt with.....after you have (replaced "killed" with "eliminated") all the jedi in the temple, go to the Mustafar system, wipeout viceroy gunray and the other seperatist leaders

(removed "once more, the sith will rule the galaxy")

Palpatine: and we shall have peace.

This was by far the most difficult section of the movie to edit because some of the uneven dialogue had to be left in, this is what i've come up with so far, if anyone has some other interesting variations i'd love to hear them.

I've done a rough cut of the film on my HD, The next step in the process is mixing/matching the soundtrack along with the new cut.

Some things I've been looking at are using the variations in voices on the Spanish/French audio track for Vaders "No" and some of the Emperor's babble.

Here are some scenes I though made more sense to Anakins transformation:

"Sidious Revealed"

Anakin: Chancellor....we just recieved a report from master Kenobi, he has engaged General Grievous.
Palpatine: We can only hope master Kenobi is up to the challenge.
Anakin: I should be there with him.
Palpatine: It's upsetting to me that the council doesn't seem to fully appreciate your talents, don't you wonder why they won't make you a Jedi master?.
Anakin: I wish I knew, more and more I get the feeling that i'm being excluded from the council....I know there are things about the force that they're not telling me.
Palpatine: They don't trust you Anakin, they see your future, they know your power will be too strong to control.

*Edit* when their backs turn to walk into the other room i've replaced the "you must break through the fog of lies"dialogue with: "Ever since I've known you you've been searching for a life greater than that of an ordinary Jedi.

Palpatine: Let me help you to know the subtleties of the force.
Anakin: How do you know the ways of the force?
Palpatine: My mentor taught me everything about the force, even the nature of the dark side.
Anakin: You know the dark side?
Palpatine: Anakin, if one is to understand the great mystery, one must studey all it's aspects.

*Cut out* "Not just the dogmatic narrow view of the Jedi"

Palpatine: If you wish to become a complete and wise leader, you must embrace a larger view of the force...be careful of the Jedi Anakin, only through me can you achive a power greater than any Jedi...learn to know the dark side of the force and you will be able to save your wife from certain death.
Anakin: What did you say?
Palpatine: use my knowledge, I beg you.

*Cut out* Everything up to......

Anakin: I'm going to turn you over to the Jedi council.
Palpatine: Of course you should but you're not sure of their intentions are you?
Anakin: I will quickly discover the truth to all of this.
Palpatine: You have great wisdom Anakin....know the power of the dark side, power to save Padme'

I actually hated to cut out Anakin threatening Palpatine with his lightsaber, and Palpatine's I feel your anger segment...But I felt that it undermined showing that Anakin was being swayed by Palpatine if he is shown wanting to kill him.

"Anakin/Windu in the hanger"

Anakin: Master Windu, I must talk to you.
Windu: Skywalker we have just recieved word that Obi- Wan has destroyed General Greivous...we're on our way to make sure the chancellor returns emergency power back to the senate.
Anakin: He won't give up his power, I just learned a (removed terrible) truth.....I think Chancellor Palpatine is a sith lord.
Windu: A sith Lord?....how do you know this?
Anakin: He knows the ways of the force....he's been trained to use the dark side.
Windu: Are you sure?
Anakin: Absolutely.
Windu: (removed: then our worst fears have been realised) We must move quickly if the Jedi order is to survive.
(removed: Master the chancellor is very powerful, you will need my help if you're going to arrest him.)
Windu: For your own good stay out of this affair...I sense a great deal of confusion in you (removed young skywalker)
Anakin: I must go master.
Windu: If what you have told me is true you will have gained my trust, but for now remain here, wait in the council chambers until we return.
Anakin: (removed yes master).

This makes Windu colder toward Anakin again brushing him aside....Anakin sounds more matter of fact about Palpatine being a sith.

And the following scenes with Windu/Palpatine/Anakin is a vast improvement, but i't's better seen than heard....and i'm sure most couldn't care less about reading all this, I thought i'd give a few examples of a few changes I made.

This has interested me for awhile, since I bought the videogame right after seeing the movie.

A few things I noticed about the way the movie footage was edited in the game:

The Collective either removed the voices from the battle droids in the Invisible Hand hangar, or it wasn’t inserted yet into the movie audio, either way I always found the droid voices annoying, without the voices I scenes actually improved. (especially the helium sounding Super Battle Droids.)

The rescue of Palpatine has a clip of Dooku saying “just because there are two of you, don’t assume you have the advantage.” I actually like the line, and “I’ve been looking foreward to this”…those two lines are good. The lines “My powers have doubled since the last time we met count… good twice the pride double the fall” which I still think is cheesy sounding, should have been cut…A nice little Dooku theme is played when he flips down to confront the Jedi.

Not related to the game but, for the life I me I still can’t figure out why Palpatine says “yea” when Kenobi is cutting down the Super Battle Droids…

The scene with Anakin and Obi confronting Grievous is improved with the removal of the Grievous/Anakin banter.

The Jedi flying towards Grievous ship is cut down alot, but it has the right idea, no Buzz droids, and all the Anakin rah rah Artoo stuff should have been removed, I just can’t picture Vader/Anakin ever talking to a droid like that.

You get the idea, It’s funny how a films creator with such an imaginitive mind can find humor in what most consider eye roll enducing.

After watching it again, what still stands out to me is the Grevious/Kenobi Utapau segment.

I'm not sure how i'd edit that part, I wish there was a way to entirely remove all the Boga/Wheelbike action, and as little seen of that Lizard the better.

I'd like to see Kenobi land on Utapau, talk to Tion, stay as his fighter leaves, then it cut to another scene on Coruscant, when cut back to Utapau show parts of Greivious talking to members of the trade federation (eliminating the lizard riding sequence) with Kenobi watching then jumping down...after this I would edit seqments of the dialogue/duel....but then after the Clones arrive, I'm stuck on how to get those two characters from point A to B without that dueling on Lizard Wheelbike segment.

Anyone have any further ideas?.

Something I considered with the Vader scene, is doing a fade when the Emperor has a smile on his face right after Vader busts loose from the table...The Noooo and the Al Jolson gesturing don't really need to be in there, I think it's just failed extra dramatics....the fade would have to have great timing or it would seem too rushed.

The hair coming scene with Anakin/Padme I think everyone agrees, can be sliced right out of there.

I do quite a few snip edits with the Palpatine/Mace duel....As Palps spins through the air I'd keep only the sound of a spinning saber instead of Palps sounding like some rusty Tie Fighter...then have Palps instantly stab the first Jedi right after he lands (no standing around for a second delay).

I'd also Eliminate , some strange Palpatine facial expressions during his saber duel, as well The goofy mouthed Palpatine "nooo, nooo", it would just cut back from Mace to Palps saying "you will die" and shooting lighting.

Also gone are "What have I done", "Gooooood", most of the "don't listen to him" Mace/Palp type banter directed at Anakin....just alot of small dialogue edits would help the scene a great deal.

Someone know the name of the poster who made the ROTJ DVD cover with the altered green Luke lightsaber, I thought the quality was really good, but the image was cropped when he put it on his DVD cover.

I'd love an uncropped Hi-Res image of that...without text.

Nice work Fusion,

One thing I noticed about Those Prequel and OT SE covers (which are the same ones I downloaded here btw), I comapred them to my posters and I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but most of them have an incorrect yellowish hue...I tried to correct it to match various other color references for the artwork, but for some reason it's difficult to totally correct...at least for me on Photoshop.

I don't know if the flaws were any more apparent the second time I saw it, but I was definately able to enjoy it more.

I had all kinds of nitpicks with it the first time, the second I just sat back and enjoyed it, maybe because I knew what was coming and I wasn't sitting there overanalyzing...However Palps makeup still looks rediculous.

I like it about as much as Jedi now (3rd on my list).

After seeing ROTS the first time, alot bothered me about it and I ranked it a notch below the OT, after seeing it a second time, I found it much more entertaining, and things I intitally found irritating the first time suprisingly didn't bother me at all or as much this time.

One thing that still bothered me was the makeup job on Palpatine, terrible...

One other thing, as interesting as it is to see Yoda and the Emperor fight with lightsabers, I never would have gone down that road, I always thought of Yoda and Palpatine dealing with things with their heads and hands, in a way giving them lightsabers ruins their originality, and almost comes off as a cheap method of storytelling.

The only changes I would have ever made to the OT, are upgrading the effects (sabers, mattes, touch-up a few explosions, and maybe remaster the soundtrack).

I might also consider a few cut scenes (Biggs/Luke on Yavin) but nothing dramatic.

I can only think of one instance off the top that I would create and insert, a new Palp holo in ESB...but it would have to be much better then the one currently in the DVD's.

It's a shame he didn't think as much of his OT as most did, I would have bent over backwords to try and make the prequels as faithful as possible to the OT, and never would have had to go back and alter anything.

Thanks Schwert, 1-3 artwork is exactly what I was looking for!

The 4-6 artwork I'm looking for are the originals aka ESB "Gone with the wind" style without text, I had a beautiful Hi-res image that took me about a year to find.

The New Hope style I'm looking for is the classic Luke standing over Leia with the saber, and The standard ROTJ one, (not the hands holding the saber).

I know some of you have posted images of all the posters at one point or another, either some of the links no longer work or there are so many threads to go through I am unable to find them.

Maybe this would be a good thread to put them in.

Anyway, I had a Zip disk with hi-res posters images on it, for whatever reason it is corrupted, so everything I had is now gone, would anyone be so kind as to post hi-res OT poster art...specifically I'm looking for the artwork without the text...but teaser or alternative stuff would be great too.

Very nice Ash, I know the feeling about trying to find the right synopsis for the back, I've read summaries from novels, the backs of all the Trilogy releases, LD sets and DVD and none of them capture the desciption I'm looking for, I never thought it would be that difficult but I've tried myself and can never seem to get it the way I want it.

Another thing is, I know it's tampering with the original art but I remember someone had changed Lukes saber to green in the poster, sounds strange but I thought the look was actually an improvement..

I like the idea of using an alternative poster art as the backdrop on the rear cover, but personally I agree and wouldn't use the filmstrip, sometimes the less added, the better the results are, but that's just my taste, another small pick is the gray strip, have you tried other colors to see what you like best? ever considered putting one across the top on the front, in simlar fation to the official DVD's? (sometimes small things like that add to the overall appeal.)

I might have a HR image of that Revenge poster, I'll do some digging.

Like what you've done, I'd like to see the others!.

EDIT: I missed where you mentioned not wanting to keep the green saber above.
