Do people like remakes and reboots here, or hate them ?

As far as remakes go the remake of The Italian Job was offensive, how can they call it a remake?, showing a one second clip from the original movie doesnt make it a remake or a reimagining as they barely stick to the original movie.Using the Mini's as an escape at the end of the movie doesnt make it a remake also.

You make a good point about furthering muddying the waters of what a remake even is.

Ocean's 11 was about a former army group committing a bunch of robberies for money.

Ocean's 11 remake was about a bunch of professional theives and wacky characters doing one robbery mainly for personal revenge and romantic comedy.

I dislike the term "reboot." It seems to me like more of a marketing term than anything creative. Dont get me started on "reimagining!"

With remakes and all being so ubiquitous, I propose a new term that encompasses them all- remakes, reboots, semi-sequals

REDO.

  • Did you hear there's a redo on The Hulk?
  • They're redoing "V" on TV.
  • The new Spiderman redo has him in highschool again.

Looking bad in your own autobiography
Time

Cleaning my garage I found a couple books. "Samwise" actor Sean Astin's "There and Back Again" and pro wrestler Bill Goldberg's "Who's Next."

Both these books stood out to me, because they're autobiographies where the author manages to blythly make themselves look absolutely terrible, apparently unintentionally.

Sean Astin is a complete self-important tool who somehow seems unaware of what a tool he is. His anecdotes include how Brendan Frasier is lazy because he doesn't like working more than 10 hour days, how Orlando Bloom is lazy because he asked a PA to get him a sandwhich on the set of LOTR, and how Sean acosted Orlando at the Cannes Festival because Orlando waved at him from across the street without enough enthusiasm. It's just page after page of how serious and hard working Sean Astin is and how nothing is good enough to match his work ethic and ideals.

Bill Goldberg's book isn't much of a read. He was a failed football player whose pro rasslin career was really only about 3 years long. The thing is he doesn't seem to realize that pro wrestling isn't a real sport... even though he did it for a living. He really thinks he's king badass of the universe. He was a good-guy wrestler, and talks about his genuine hate at bad-guy wrestlers who made fun of him in order to rile of the crowd.  He brags about threatening them backstage and using his political clout to harm their careers. The guy comes off as some sort of man-child or psycho in his own autobiography.

Reading these actually effected my enjoyment of these people's work.  Whenever I watch LOTR I can't help but think "that Sean Astin sure is a tool."

if I remember correctly, the fight is in the wayne manor.    Batman comes out of the batman, into the manor and Bane is waiting for him.   They fight, Bane beats him and breaks his back and then takes him into public and dumps him onto the street.

I recall it that way to. Must have been an awkward car ride from the cave.

BATMAN: So... where we goin?

BANE: A crowded street.

BATMAN: Why? Are we gonna get a pretzel?

BANE: No. I'm going to break you.

BATMAN: Pretzel afterwards?

There's a lot of dumb stuff (like Ethan Sleazebaggo) that seems unfair to complain about since they aren't actually in the films.

HIS NAME IS ELAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ethan would be a dumb name for a SW character ;-)

(btw, he is in AOTC, they just don't say his name)

I know, but his name isn't. "Devin Felth" the stormtrooper is in "Star Wars" but his lame name isn't.

I haven't read The Hobbit in a few years, but aren't there several instances where Gandalf wanders off and the book stays with Bilbo. Who says that the movie won't follow Gandalf having a sidequest or two while intercutting with Biblo's adventure.

That'll be the weird part. Will we intercut from some epic battle of Wizards and Orcs and Gollud-Dor and the Necromancer... and then back to Bilbo in a barrell?

I'm very curious what the plan is.

Oh noes!!!

^Sarcasm.

I figured. I was just riffing on the whole concept of not wanting to ask a girl if she's single.

I come from the school that there is never any harm in letting a female type person know you're interested.

Worst case scenario is you don't have a future with this girl, which is what you already have if she doesn't know you're interested.

But asking a girl if she has a fella is a perfect way to test waters. Possible answers include:

"Yes" Not good.

"Yeah, but I'm hoping to cheat on him soon." Good

"No." Good.

"No." ::: bats eyelashes::: Very Good.

"Nope, because I love being single! Woohoo!" Not great.

"Why are you asking!? Are you some kinda creep!?!" This rarely happens.

It really pisses me off when I meet a girl that I think might like me but then I go and look them up at facebook and find out they're not single. By the way guys, for those of you who haven't thought of this yet, facebook is a great way to find out if girls are single or not. It saves you the embarrassment of having to ask them.

Why is it embarrassing to ask a girl if she has a fella?

Thank the maker I could care less about canon.  What a pain.

From your lips to god's ears.

Now, as a former gamemaster of the "Star Wars" RPG, I can sympathise with how hard it is to come up with good "star warsy" names. The combination of familiar and sci-fi-ish is not easy.

That being said... ... SAVAGE OPPRESS??????? That's the best they could come up with? Savage. Oppress?????????????

Looks like Terminator Fans have a petition of their own

The Terminator franchise is an excellent example on how to turn a terrible concept into a fantastic movie by just using good writing and directing. The story is about a computer called skynet, sending a robot back in time to kill the mother of the child that will basically destroy skynet by starting and leading a rebellion against skynet's genocide of the human race. It sounds like the story of a cheesy Saturday morning cartoon. So many things could have gone wrong but James Cameron pulled off a believable, dark, exciting movie by using good acting, casting, cinematography, writing, and special effects.

I agree the execution of the story was very well done, but I disagree that there's anything wrong with the concept. It's an excellent concept, stolen from a top writer. It's a fascinating idea, full of dramatic situations, genuinely scary, not as cliche then as it is now, and I really wonder what Saturday morning cartoons you watch.

the first two film versions of The Maltese Falcon were duds.     I'm betting the original Wizard of Oz was a silent movie.   Alot of classics were remakes of silent movies.

A lot of other remakes are remakes of b/w movies. Or 3:4 aspect ratio movies. "Clash of the Titans" was a remake of a 2D movie. Does new technology make a remake necessary?

I don't think it does, but I stand it's best to judge all remakes on their own merits as films.

"Clash of the Titans" was poop, not because it was a remake, but because it was a poopy movie. The new "True Grit" is amazing, not because the old one was good or bad, but simply on its own.
