Worst dialogue from...........AOTC!!!
Time

Its been a while since I watched this flick, but if I remember right:

After first using electric guitar mines a few times, then chasing Obi Wan's spaceship blasting a repeating laser gun for 30 seconds from about 10 feet away, Jango finally hits Obi ONCE! Then Boba laughs, and instead of trying to hit him again, Jango says

"Time to finish him off!"

and fires the extremely ineffective heat seaking missiles he'd been saving for some reason.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Star Wars: A New Hope Matthew Wood, sound mixer on the project from Skywalker Sound had to go back to the original ADR voice recordings to recapture the dialogue. In doing so, he got to hear the conversations between Sir Alec Guinness and George Lucas that took place between takes, on matters including the philosophy of the Force. This is not on the Blu-ray.

Dear god I hope this isn't true.

I dont get it. This is such a small hobby, with a relatively small group of enthusiasts. Why draw the little turf-war lines?

I understand that for antimatter it was some kind of ego/tantrum thing. But the 177 members over there... do THEY have some kind of "us/them" mentality as well? I don't know, but it would be sad.

OT.com, the movie!
Time

First, screw you guys! I never get listed in these threads :( That's why none of y'all get Christmas cards from me.

Secondly, my wife always says that these two celebrities remind her of me. Sadly, neither is Brad Pitt, and oddly, they don't seem to look like eachother.

James Purefoy

and WWE Superstar Christian

Now Purefoy plays almost entirely scumbags, and looks like a seedy Hugh Jackman, and Christian is known is wrestling as "the Creepy Little Bastard."

Should I be pissed at my wife? Or just glad that neither of them is fat?

Best and Worst Decades For Movie Soundtracks
Time

When the symphonic score soundtrack was replaced with crap, that would be the worst decade.

Star Wars started the modern Renaissance of symphonic film music and brought it back from pop song tie ins to films.

?

I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. While Star Wars had its imitators, a quick glance at the films of the decade before "Star Wars" shows mostly classic orchestral scores.

A quick glance at some of the best:

Dirty Dozen-67, 2001- 68, Planet of the Apes-68, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid-68, True Grit-68, Patton-70, Airport-70, Godfather- 72, The Exorsist- 73, Young Frankenstein, Murder on the Orient Express 74, Jaws- 75, Rocky- 76, King Kong 76,

Except "The Graduate" and maybe "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" I don't know what pop songs might have given you that impression.

If it was a painting no one would have batted an eye, but it's CG and the guys says "look CG!" and acts like he's made some kind of wry observation.

EDIT: On second glace, seriously, IS that a painting?

And then there is this little exchange.

"Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father"

"He told me enough! He told me you killed him".

Not bad dialogue, really, but what's with the emphasis on "you"?

  • "He told me enough. He told me you killed him."
  • "He told me enough. He told me you killed him."
  • "He told me enough. He told me you killed him."

Nope. I think Hamill's was the right choice.

Best and Worst Decades For Music
Time

DuracellEnergizer said:

This decade is shaping up to be the worst I've ever seen in regards to music. 100.99% of the music is the shitty pop, rap, R&B, etc., the few "artists" out there that actually can sing can't write shit, and hypersexualized superficial Hollywood bullshit is the core of the shit they do write.

Makes me long for the good ol' days, like the 1990s. REAL artists like the Spice Girls, O-Town, Ace of Bass, Too-Short, Silk, Hanson, Gerardo. THOSE were the days.

100.99% of the music is the shitty pop, rap, R&B, etc.,

Perhaps I'm confused (not by your math). You're mad that most music is part of a genre?

Practically all of Yoda's last minutes.

Obviously I paraphrase here to illustrate the problem.

YODA : So you came back, oh yes I look a bit different *cough*, I guess I won't be around much longer, needn't have bothered as you learned everything you need the last time I saw you. Yep Vader's your dad, I would have told you but you hadn't finished your training but as I just said you sort of had. Luke, remember that first lesson I taught you about the dark side? Well I'm dying now, there... is... another... hold that thought, it's my last breath... Bye!

I disagree. I always have figured that Yoda is dying precisely as he means to. He waited for Luke, tells him what he wants, then joins the Force. I think he said exactly what he wanted to say, and for a little drama queen like Yoda, he probably liked the rapt attention when your audience thinks you'll die any second.

Lucas v. Spielberg, Round 4 - Who Is More Likely To Be In My Kitchen?

Hmmm...I think I'm starting to lose interest in this like everyone else.  If I declare this a tie, and declare the competition over, I guess Spielberg wins 2 to 1.  Anyone have any ideas for Round 5?  I'm stuck.

Who's better with their fans?

I know Lucas hate is the order of the day, but when it comes to letting his fans more or less do anything they want (notably fanedits, fan films, costume organizations, radio drama) Lucas is pretty chill.

Is Part 2 of 4 of Anything Ever Any Good?
Time

Imagine you have a big nasty boil on your face. It hurts. So you throw a bandage on it and try to ignore it until it goes away.

Now imagine that everyone you meet, despite also hating boils, feels the need to talk about your boil, and poke it.

2/4's a big shmuck. We get it. He gets his kicks being a brat, then telling everyone how much smarter he is than them when they're annoyed at him. I'm sure this makes him very popular at his middle school. He's probably proud of how many threads there are discussing his antics.

BUT LET IT GO. I can't ignore him with you dudes constantly quoting him, discussing him, and poking the boil.

If we all ignore him, he fades away like an obnoxious Freddy Kruger at the end of "Nightmare" 1.
