Did anyone else think the GoDaddy kissing ad went too far? I mean, my 6 year old niece might have seen that ad.
There are about a half dozen ads (GoDaddy especially) every year that "push the envelope."
Within a few years, between plays we'll be seeing full on soft-core porn.
Ray Lewis totally looked like Darth Vader last night, with his black facemask and cyborg arm... although Vader has killed slightly more people.

I just hope he get's unknowns for the movie. I don't know if I want to see a bunch of it-people in this movie. It should be a movie that creates it-people. I liked Super-8, because I had never seen these kids before, and their performances were pretty damn good.
I agree.
I think the cast of Star Trek 09 was a good in that regard. Chris Pine was a relative unknown and Quinto was a TV actor.

I'm starting to seriously consider getting a medical marijuana card. I've been really depressed lately, and for some reason smoking tends to motivate me - in other words, everything feels less hopeless and I remember I have a semblance of direction in my life. The only reservation I have is that I want to go into the field of education, which is technically a government job. Also, I might abuse it. I'd like to think I'm smart enough not to, but that's what I (falsely) said about alcohol.
Marijuana is generally not the best choice, as it tends to increase depression. Starting a depressant that you might likely abuse might be a bad choice.
If you're willing to get a card a go through a dispensary, perhaps you might be better off with something that treats depression.
Getting annoyed. My local library system still hasn't made "Scoundrels" available... and I haven't been able to... um... locate the audiobook.

Is anybody here who can answer my question? Instead of going "nerd joke posting flood" you seem to be so fond of?
Where exactly did those 4 billion go? Children education you say. But wait, doesn't he have own foundations/organizations like "George Lucas Educational Foundation" or "Lucas Learning"?
The GLEF and Edutopia are not-for-profits incorporated in California. If, as it seems, you doubt that's where the money is going, I'm sure there's some way you can look into it.
My students did an activity today called "ALTITUDE and TEMPERATURE."
They read a paragraph about how altitude effects temperature.
Then they graphed Altitude and Temperature for two pairs of cities, each had one with a low altitude, and one with a high altitude.
70% got it wrong. One student wrote "20."
Some days I want to bang my head with a hammer.
I just can't take Colin Baker, with his white man fro, fat face, and clown costume seriously.

Just for fun, share a real world location that could easily be used as a setting in the sequels. I'll start with the capital city of Brazil, Brasilia...
With some matte work, I see New Alderaan, capital of the New Republic.

More casting for the Dracula show.
I'm not familiar with the actress from "Merlin" that will be Lucy but Nonso Anozie strikes me as an interesting choice for Renfield. Not because he's black, but because he's huge. Like pro wrestler huge.
Color me intrigued, leaning towards optimistic.

What Star Trek fans wanted was a real series of prequel fims showing us how the original crew met and came together since this was never done with the original series.
As a life long Star Trek fan, that is TOTALLY not what I wanted.
I stand by my opinion that there's never, ever, ever, been an origin story prequal worth the film it's on.
Watched The African Queen. Great movie.
Hard to believe it's so epic, and only and hour forty five long.
With JJ Abrams as the director, unless the studio comes up with some kind of totally terrible basic story premise, I'm confident Ep 7 will at least be good.
I'm cautiously optimistic they might be "Really good."
I hope they're great.

A director's job isn't just to make a film look good. It's also about getting great performances out of the actors - something George Lucas absolutely cannot do. Abrams is much better at that.
Sidney Lumet said that ultimately, the DP and the lighting crew can get the shot right, the most important thing a director can do is work with actors.
And lets not forget using Bronson Cave, the Bradbury Building, and Vasquez Rocks.
A cool pic I found of CGI architecture on real (Brazilian) locations.
I really hope they use real filming locations... something Abrams seems inclined to do.
Mexico's Yucatan is a treasure trove of awesome, otherworldly locations.

Well, there is a way to reconcile those things. The whole point of blowing up planets was for people to know about it ("Fear will keep the local systems in line"), so obviously they're not going to cover that up. On the other hand, while there was no way to prevent people from getting the idea that they were looking for droids (asking "How long have you had those droids?" to everyone passing by), they may have wanted to cover up the fact that they were so completely desperate to find them, lest someone say "Hey! Maybe these droids they're looking for have something valuable I can sell to the rebels." So it's not that they're trying to cover up who the true perpetrator is, they're just trying to cover up the perpetrator's motives, and this was an easy way. But they didn't count on the mystery-solving aptitude of Magruff the Crime Jedi!
Yeah, it's not the best explanation, but it's not the worst plot-hole either. I give it a pass.
That is the assumption I've always made. Never even gave it a second thought. I don't even think it's a plot hole.
But given that he wrote "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" would it have been better if Paul had been dead?

But alas all of this discussion is pointless and this very forum has proven that George was right when he wanted to destroy his own history. The most popular topic on this site is about a fan project that is nothing more than another "special edition." It's tampering with film history far exceeds the damage done by Lucas.
Seriously, a wise man once said, "you'll strain at a fly in you swallow a camel." So criticize the prequel films all you want, but most of you are just as bad as the guy who created those cinematic disasters.
Oh yeah, because a niche of rabid film enthusiasts (who slaver over every recreation and preservation produced) appreciate the insane amount of work and dedication going into WHAT WE ALL KNOW is basically another Special Edition (but thanks for mentioning it, we appreciate your wisdom) and marvel that an amateur can do better than Lucas ever attemptedis really damaging film history with our DVD-Rs and our message board posts, as opposed to, you know, the man who refuses to let Congress preserve his films as culturally significant.
You strike me as kind of a tookus, and I don't just mean because you said "but alas."

I didn't see TPM and I doubt I will pay money to see AOTC, but I would rather re-watch Episode I twice and get kicked in the balls a bunch of times than sit through half of Episode II once.
Fixed.
Hogwash! The Shining has nothing to do with government conspiracies! It's all about The Native American Genocide!

Not surprising, it was very un-Star Trek like and very clearly made for and marketed at people who were not fans of Star Trek.
Most people I know who loved it don't care for Star Trek in general, and very few Trek fans I know can stand the thing. I got really tired of people saying things like, "You know, I didn't think I liked Star Trek, but that was actually pretty good!" Yeah... No, the fact is you still don't like Star Trek; you liked this because it was made to appeal to you, and it succeeded.
I like Star Trek a lot, and this movie was very Star Trek, and I liked it.
I think including a really convoluted plot to justify a creative reboot somehow within the context of the original stories (and get a Nimoy cameo) is bending over backwards to appeal to Star Trek fans.
Fist fights, space battles, smug jokes, ridiculous doomsday weapons... all very Star Trek. I liked it.
