Darth Bane concept art for The Clone Wars:

Kinda neat, but why doesn't it line up with the other images/toys/covers we've seen of him?

I wouldn't have cared, but wouldn't a lot of people complain at great length if that had happened?

I'm a huge TNG fan (nostalgia goggles firmly in place) but the devolving episode has always been one where, once I remember that's the one I'm watching, I skip to the next episode.

I've never grasped how this show doesn't even show a grade school level understanding of evolution/Natural Selection, although to be fair, that's oddly common in sci-fi.

What proof do you have that making aliens that didn't look at all human was a choice for TNG. They had to use the makeup people they had and they didn't have an unlimited budget as you admit.

In the end, though, when you get right down to it, I could have lived with the lame rubber forehead aliens if the writers had at least come up with a better explanation for their existence other than the stupid pseudoscientific "ancient rubber forehead aliens seeded the galaxy with DNA designed to evolve into more rubber forehead aliens" crap.

Why need an explanation at all? It is what it is.

While we're on the topic of sports, why do sports players get paid so much money!? Apparently the minimum wage in the NHL is $500,000 per year. $500,000!!! I also find it disgusting that millions after millions of dollars are spent on sports arenas funded by tax dollars, when the money could be used so much more productively. If they're going to build a new arena, they should use money from people's tickets, not raise people's taxes.

Supply and demand. People are willing to pay a lot of money to see someone good and moving a ball quickly past people trying to stop him.

And sports can be really good for a city. As a small example, last week WrestleMania (admitedly not a real sport) brought 125,000 money spending people into New Orleans to spend money. Every hotel in the city sold out. Imagine the revenue for taxis, retaurants, coffee shops, gas stations, adult book stores, coffee shops.

Sports bring in dough. That's why football players get to rape people all the time and it's ok.

The Sad Story of LucasArts' Darth Maul Game
Time

Where the designer in this article is complaining, I see Lucas as trying to develop something interesting.

A bad-azz steal Darth Maul game, grim gritty, badassery sounds like a kinda okay game to try to make.

But an evolving story, surprises, these sound like good goals to aim for. Maybe could have been really cool.

And as long as he kept paying the developers, it was Lucas's game.

Much of post-Kes Voyager and the pilot and 3rd season of Enterprise were very watchable.

The JJ films are just as good/bad as the TNG films.

No one has ever "ruined" Star Trek, because it's always been so hit and miss.

There were plenty of stinkers in TOS.

TNG's first season is almost unwatchable.

Insurrection was so dull, I own it, just read the back of the DVD box, and can't remember what it's about.

"Into Darkness" was lousy, but no worse that Insurrection or ST5.

Not necessarily. Lucas himself came up with the retcon that the PT-era Jedi, while never allowed to fall in love or have long-term relationships, still went around having sex and one-night stands*.

*Is it any wonder why I utterly loathe the PT Jedi and Lucas "brilliant" vision?

I think that was always there. It may not be explicit in the OT, but given the monk like lives of Yoda and Obi it might be inferred.

But Obi and Yoda weren't living Monk-like lives by choice or because of a code of conduct. They were hiding from the Empire. At least that's always been my reading of the films.

Agreed, but the idea of these warrior monks being ascetics doesn't exactly come out of left field.

It's also said pretty plainly in the first draft. To paraphrase:

GENERAL SKYWALKER: Hey Jedi kid. Your dad was never much in the self-control department. You existing is evidence of that.

Screw Playskool and the new "JEDI FORCE" toy line.

There's no FREAKING PRINCESS LEIA. Amidala either!

Kit FREAKING Fisto gets a toy, but not two of the main heroes of the entire thing!? I am so sick of this bullshit in toys.

Fisher Price's IMAGINEXT line has three females in the entire huge toyline, and two of them are supervillains.

I'm buying off brand Princess figures so my son and daughter can see there's not just males in the world.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

ray_afraid said:

I hate that many people seem to misunderstand Leia's character in Star Wars. It seems many think of her character as a captured princess and a innocent victim of the galactic civil war. Even Carrie Fisher doesn't understand her "floating accent" that comes and goes throughout the film.
The fact is, when we meet her she's only using her "Princess" title to disguise her real position as a member of the Rebel Alliance on a mission to deliver the stolen Death Star plans to the Rebel base. Her accent is only used in front of Darth Vader and Moff Tarkin in an attempt to fool them into thinking she's no more than the innocent princess of a peaceful world and therefore no threat to the Empire at all.
I've also heard her delivering the mission briefing in TESB criticized by people who obviously don't understand her character. She's not just a princess who got caught up in the war, she's a major leader of the Rebel military. That's why we see her doing such things in TESB and why she's leading such missions in SW.

It might be a nice touch if a fan editor altered General Dodonna's dialog to something like "General Organa, you're safe!"
I'd dig that.

Agreed. I always thought of her accent as a role she was playing

Today is my first day as an adjunct professor! (And next week I'll have to e-mail the adjunct coordinator and see if she'll be renewing my class for next quarter, too, seeing as how I managed to scrape together enough students for the class to go forward in, like, two weeks.)

I'm actually due to be quite busy this week, and in my area of study no less. Thursday is the state Language Fair, and Friday has an Asian Fashion Show which I will be providing kimono (and kimono dressing) for.

Congrats Prof.

OK. Without resorting to Wookieepedia, here's my understanding of the huge number of Sith organizations in the EU.

 • The Sith Race
 • The Sith Empire (The Revan made)
 • The Sith Triumvirate (KOTOR 2)
 • The Other Older Sith Empire (TOR MMORPG)
 • The Brotherhood of Sithness (that Darth Bane killed?)
 • Darth Bane's Pair o' Siths, leading to Darth Vader
 • Lost Tribe of the Sith
 • Jacen Solo aka Darth Caedus... a Sith of one.
 • The Krath, who weren't Sith.
 • Darth Krayt and the Tattooed Sith of the Future

Am I missing any?

-Naddists

-Exar Kun

I remember Exar Kun's badass coat from the comics.

Who the heck are Naddists?

The Naddists are those who want Freedon Nadd's family to rule Onderon.

It's been a few years, and not resorting to Wookieepedia has become the official unofficial rule of this thread, were they the Krath? With their Sithy-witchcraft? Or am I confusing things?
