The Clone Wars messes up continuity or how Lucas is still destroying star wars.

Still, cloning soldiers is one thing, and partially acceptable. Making a clone of Luke Skywalker is something completely different. Making a clone of Luke Skywalker that also has force powers is essentially treading the ground for midichlorians and the rest of the force-science junk.

But I digress, and it would definitely be a good time for me to shut up now before I attract a whole legion of flamers.

Yeah. For some reason 'midichlorians' are the worst thing ever, but "LuUke" and "JorUus" the wacky clone Jedi are genius, as are the Force-eating lizards. Lotta Zahn love out there.

Shrinking Star Wars?
Time

In the OT, zombie's book pretty neatly gets into why "I am your father" and "you are my sister" happened, which was to simplify and compact the backstory into something they could wrap up.

I disagree that Lando owning the Falcon before Han is problematic. It quickly defined their relationship. It was their connection.

In the PT I think all the Universe shrinking was to get a cheap cheer in the theater, "I will miss you too Chewbaca." In absense of a moving storyline, the movie could present moments like R2 meeting CPO and make the crowd happy.

they completely destroyed the mythology built up carefully over thirty years plus in the EU.

Have you been seeing the same EU I've been seeing? Nothing is carefully built up and most of it doesn't make sense and the rest of it exists to try and make the parts that don't make sense fit together.

And now we're getting huffy over things said in DVD Bonus Features? Ideas don't even need to be in stories anymore to piss us off.

You should go and correct Wookiepedia. They have it all wrong.

Dear God. I tried to out-ridiculous the EU and failed. Who would have guessed that "Look Sir, Droids" was in fact the only man in the Empire who noticed that AT-ATs could be tripped by cables, and his career was sandbagged because of it. And later he did become a spy for the Rebellion because he feels spiritual kinship with Han Solo.

At the age of 15 - and to this very day - this is the only Stormtrooper that ever stood out to me.  He changed the course of the entire story.  He overlooks that tiny piece - they leave the planet.  He found it - so our story began.

I love the way the shot is framed - the desolation, the sound, the voice, all of it.  A really fantastic scene that has moved me for 34 years.

His name is Waggo Borathyon. According to the EU he was the lost prince of a planet of sky-surfing hunters of giant flying fish. He returned to the Star Destroyer after saying "look sir, Droids" and eventually became enthralled in a conspiracy with an undercover rebel operative and the brain of an ancient Sithlord in a jar. He died 50 years later single handedly holding off part of an extra-galactic invasion by biological sadist aliens. His son is now a Jedi master working the reformed Empire.

See, doesn't the EU make everything cooler!

"The Hutts are gangsters!"
Time

TPM. Tatooine. It's clearly established the Republic's laws don't extend that far out into space. The Hutt species is aparently the legitimate government, enforcing contracts and even hosting sporting events.

How can they be gangsters? Whose laws are they breaking?

By ROTJ it's not clear how the Hutts operate, as Tatooine is now at least somewhat under Imperial control.

It's worth noting that in the EU there are actual places known as Hutt Space, where the Hutts appear to have total control, are recognized by the Republic and even negoiated with.

Is it fair to call Jabba a gangster? Or is he actually a sovreign government unto himself?

TheBoost said: I see your point, but 50 Cent's new album doesn't affect how we view "Revolver" or "Sgt. Peppers." The PT actively recontextualizes how the OT is viewed.

Yep, but one can of course say that ESB and ROTJ do that to SW.  Many sequels do that when they reveal details about the prevous films that were previously left to the imagination.  Despite growing up with the OOT, I can still act on what I have subsequently learnt about SW, forget the two following films, watch it as a stand alone film and appreciate it on that level.  It takes an effort, but I can do it.  The same is true of other films.

If children love Star Wars enough to research its origins and development when they grow up, they can do the same.  If they don't, then it won't matter.  I'm with Puggo on this one.

Yeah but ESB and ROTJ were good. The PT was suck.

I don't want my kid to grow up to be a researcher. I want him to like "Star Wars" and not think Vader is a whiny teenager.

They took away the cigs in both pics too!

NO! Scandalous! I imagine Jackson Pollack never EVER painted without at least two cigs in his mouth! He was also an adulterer and was a well known drunk! How dare they whitewash that away! Here comes the gestapo!!!!

On the other hand, I fail to see what these stamps have in common with a childrens animation company trying to improve their product.

ATTENTION: Dayv needs our help

I find it interesting that despite the arguments made against me, no one has been able (even really tried) to refute the reasoning I used in post 273 or the reasoning used by C3PX in his email to me.

1. Whose claim is easier to prove?  Dayv's claim that he has cancer or Shawn's claim that he does not?   Dayv's claim.  ... ... ...  Just because you don't have cancer does not mean there are medical records that exist that prove you don't have Cancer.   It is almost impossible for Shawn to prove his claim.  Therefor, if we are to clear this up either way, the proof needs to come from Dayv.

This is a valid point about the difficulty of proving a negative. It follows that IF PROOF IS NEEDED, it would make sense for it to be a positive proof (even if Dayv is trying to decieve people, it's possible he has an undiagnosed cancer).

2.  Who should have the most desire to clear this up?  Dayv. ... ... ...  Yet he delayed and delayed and delayed.   Shawn's initial accusation came on 12/20/2010,  Jay's post that Dayv sent him records came on 01/06/2011.   That is a 17 day difference.  That seems very strange to me.  ... ... ...  I'd be professing like crazy that I was innocent and I would probably demand that the accuser be banned.   Dayv does not seem to be acting like I would in the same situation.

Now we enter a realm of emotional value judgements. Dayv "should" want to clear this up. "This is what I'd do."

I don't know Dayv, or have clue what his headspace is, but clearly the dude is in a very bad place, but not defending oneself fervently enough does not equal a confession of guilt.

Finally, this is not a court of law.    If it were, the burden of proof would most definitely be on Shawn.   This is a case a of a forum member asking for money to help treat his cancer.   ... ... ... ...  Heck, even if Dayv did proof concretely, no one would be required to donate.   Everyone has the right to decide for themselves under what conditions they will donate.

In a fraud case, I beleive the burden of proof would be on Dayv, for the reasons you said in #1. His records might be supoenaed. That being said:

  • This is ultimately a case of a friend asking his friends for help. You're right that everyone has the right to decide for themselves how that transaction would go, but that applies to Dayv as well.
  • Evidence has been provided. Is it convincing? I dunno. That's up to the person. You can dictate the conditions of your trust, but that too is up to Dayv if he's going to meet those conditions.

Warbler, I can tell you're angry, and given the situation I for one agree your anger and frustration is perfectly justified. You started this thread with only the best of intentions, and it's all kinda gone to hell. I think your requests are reasonable, but ultimately this is a take-it-or-leave-it situation. You can't pressure Dayv into doing what you want, this is just a message board. If other people are content with this situation, that's between them and their conciences.

while I won't say the opening was good,  I never got the idea that it was trying hard not to be Danny Boy.    I do hope you watched the rest of the movie.

Oh, I've seen "True Grit" many times. The song always sucked but I had never been bothered by how similar the main theme in the score it to "Danny Boy" until last night's viewing.
