Curious about Certain Aspects of My (Primitive) LD to DVD transfers
Time

Unfortunately, my player does not have any enhancing features that could do that, so its all the limitation of the laserdisc. Also, I didn't know that the THX preservations were made by recorder... They do look pretty good. Thanks for the information about both, msycamore.

I actually was thinking of getting another laserdisc pressing of it, but am holding off since I am getting a DVD transfer of the whole Special Widescreen set (including a fixed ANH) in a trade right now. After I get the DVDs, I'll still probably end up getting an LD copy of my own. I'll tell you my findings.

What did you like.......about the '97 Special Editions?
Time

Minus the Mos Eisley sequences and all those look-at-me I'm new droids and rontos, the SE of ANH has some decent sequences and brilliant color timing. I thought that some of the Death Star battle changes updated things relatively nicely as well as that Biggs scene. All the Millennium Falcon's sequences looked fantastic, so I was happy. My beef is mainly with the errors of the 2004 transfer, as well as Lucas's unwillingness to release the original.

As for ESB, I didn't mind most of the changes. Yes, the wampa is probably better left unseen, but the snow battle does look better. The Cloud City windows could have been nicer and grander, but, considering it was the 1990's, I can appreciate at the scope they were hinting at. Luke's scream does admittedly make me laugh. Didn't particularly like how the more vivid transfer revealed the theatrically-seen bluer Hoth. Despite the fact that it's not as intended, I like my Hoth white.

As for the ROTJ SE, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING GOOD ABOUT IT, COMPLETELY RUINS THE EXPERIENCE...

hmm... this is my 666th post...

Okay, so this is obviously a different trailer, but it confirms the inclusion of the original version of the Cantina.

Pity that it's still in black and white. I guess the original version only exists as part of the B&W Lost Cut. Lucas must have cut it down pretty quickly.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

That's peculiar. Every player I know can play burned media. What kind of disc are you using? Maybe it was an unsucessful burn.

In any case, in response to your question, PS3s play all blank media and they play Blu-Rays and games too.. :-) Triple the fun! In all seriousness though, my Toshiba DVD Recorder as well as my Oppo plays all blank media. If you want, you could probably try a lower-end DVD player and ask the store if you could test it first.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Well, I suppose LFL felt that they needed to make some change. I guess that I like that they bothered to make color adjustments, but was it in the right direction? All of that ESB footage looks terrible... When light shines on Luke's face in the trailer, I just can't believe how pink it looks... I daresay the colors are even more messed up. The engines of all the X-Wings are a horrid shade of purple. Still, it looks like they have some green screen elements available for viewing, could be interesting.

Is it just me or does Vader's newfound purple saber remind you of this shot of Mace? More PT-conforming... :-(

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist

Sounds nice. It's certainly more dramatic. Also, when the Bunker and Shield Generator explode, it would provide a significant distraction and morale killer to the Imperials, so the Ewoks can finish them off.
It would also make sense for there to be troopers inside the base still. I mean jeez, it's always wise to have some protection on something as crucial as that.
