Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released)

Reverend,

A simple swap of the whole audio track so that we get the uncensored sound with the superior image quality, I think I can handle... Are those both PAL versions ? If not I'll have to experiment with audio speed...

But then again, I can't do anything about the watermark and my menu skills are so so... Anybody willing to jump in ?

As for the workprint, if the quality is not too terrible, then count me in !

Tweak,

I didn't know that only 55% of the gross was going back to the studio...
I had assumed the 264M that boxofficemojo gives as a figure was a bonanza. :-(

It's still far from the artistic disaster of Ishtar or the financial debacle of Heaven's Gate.
Once you go past the (huge) plot holes, the movie is really entertaining and plays to me like an unofficial Mad Max 4.

Reverend, I can assure you that Tweaker is not the only Waterworld fan out there and I would very much like to see this version torrented.

I'm however, like you, curious to see which one of the 2 versions is the best, and if each has its own merits, that a mix of the 2 would be fantastic even if this is only to be available as full-screen.

I do not think the extended cut will officially ever see the light of day, given the mixed feelings the movie still gets to this day. This is largely uncalled for, as it is public record that the movie recouped its cost at the box-office and was never a flop per se, which would tend to prove that it has its fans out there.

Hello Jambe !

First of all, kudos for the amazing work put into Building Empire. I'm dl'ding Returning To Jedi now and I just can't wait to see it !

French is my mother language and I remember watching every Temps X show presented by the Bogdanof twins in my younger years.
Too bad I didn't have a VCR back then.

Anyway, I'm now located in North America and if you're still looking for translation help, I'd be happy to give it a shot.

If so, feel free to E-mail me at jprobert70 at hotmail.com

SUCCESS !

I managed to build a very simple 1-screen menu gathering all the small features like language selection, and I also made good use of the auto-chapter feature of DVD Lab Pro 2.
After the burn + thorough testing on my stand-alone player, it has no bug and the audio is now fixed...

My next project will involve a dual-layered NTSC DVD on which I intend to add a language that wasn't featured on the original release.
I wonder how hard it is to rip the original menu structure, add the language, and reconstruct it anew ?

Any tips for the newbie, ADM ?

All right : I got it !

Here is the trick : when muting one of the soundtracks for an export in Womble, do not select the Mute option from the side of the timeline (the Mike button or the Violin button), as the mute is only operational for replaying while editing.
In order to mute a track for an export, you have to do a right-click on the track in the timeline, then select Audio, then Mute.

Thanks again for your patience and precious advice ADM, maybe you want to edit the page 1 of your guide to add this tidbit of info.

I'm now onto DVD Lab Pro. I somehow managed to get a very crude DVD last time around but I might ask you for more help along the way.

In any case, a million thanks !

ADigitalMan's Guide to MPEG2/AC3 Editing

Hello again ADM,

Sorry about the delay but I had a crazy week with zero time to dedicate to my project.
I got back to it at the beginning of the afternoon but somehow I'm stuck and I just can't separate the 2 streams in Womble.

They are separated in the timeline though. Following your advice, I muted one of them in the timeline then went to export. I got 2 files.
I then muted the other one and de-muted the first one, went to export, changed the names, ended up with another 2 files.

Here is the catch : Both my AC3 files are a mix of my 2 tracks ??!!?.
Also, it is strange but it is seems that in Womble if I want to export to 2 separate files (1 MPEG and 1 AC3), I have to read 'Multiplexed' in the General Tab. If I can read 'Separate' then I'm going to get 1 file (Audio+Video).

I know I'm only one step away from what I want but I just spent 2 full hours trying to play with the options without any good results.
I guess I need some detailed steps to succeed...

Any thoughts ?

Hello ADM,

First of all kudos to your excellent work on your edits !!! Thumbs up to your guide too.

I attempt to repair/add missing Dubbed soundtracks to some of my DVDs, as some of them were never released with them to begin with, or were released with out-of-synch tracks.
French being my original language, I intend to restore the original French Tracks to Superman the Movie, and The Towering Inferno.
To get some practice, I started with one DVD that needs an audio track to be re-synched.

Following your guide, I got no problem setting up Womble MPEG Video Wizard Dvd and DVD Decrypter.
I'm now done with the editing of my missing track. On top of re-synched, it needed some parts of the other track to be completed.

Here is my question :
On page 1 you advised ReverendBeastly to edit his track and then remux it to the original video file.
I tried several things for hours in Womble but I'm still stuck. At best I was able to get a Video File with 1 Audio Track.
Could you elborate for a noob on specifically how to remux 2 audio tracks to the original video file in Womble, and then burn it back onto a DVD ?

EDIT : Alternatively, it is my understanding that I could just remux the modified track back to the ripped content of the DVD. Here again how exactly do you do that in Womble ?

Thanks a gazillion and keep up the excellent work !!!

Info: Hard Target - Director's Cut - JOHN WOO
Time
Well then the DC is shorter than the Workprint... It's funny because by reading the following review

http://www.godamongdirectors.com/woo/faq/target.html

and by watching the film, the Woo signature is definitely more present in the workprint... Go Figure !!!

Would you happen to have a DVD cover for it ?

If not I think I'll give it a shot myself and will post it here later if there are any takers... I'm definitely NOT in the coov or Blaksvn league but I should be able to alter the original cover in a nice way.

Hey there Boomstick !

I realize I might have been vague with the information I provided above.

- I didn't get Hard Target - Director's Cut from EBay... I went to the Pir8 Bay and I simply dlded the torrent.
- You're right : the copy I have is actually a Workprint the way Woo delivered it to the studio. There is a warning from Universal right before the beginning of the movie stating it is a rough unfinished cut. It runs 116 minutes, there are no end titles just fade out to black in the end. The print in itself has a few scratches and stains but is pretty nice looking. Some of the music is temp tracked from Aliens and the Lethal Weapon series (I'm sure there are other sources as well...).
- The torrent came in the form of VOB files making it a transfer from a VHS source that I think is at least a 5th Gen copy. Every frame is timecoded twice (on the upper left and the lower left corner of the visible image). The image format is close to Pan&scan but could indeed be a bit below 1.77 in ratio as the black bars are thin but present. Overall it is completely watchable AND enjoyable as it is. I really recommend it in its current form.
- I'm definitely interested in the Japanese Cut you have if it has been transferred to DVD yet (PM on the way....).

The information you just provided is only an additional proof that THERE IS a hidden gem waiting to be worked out into a GREAT fan preservation project.

Side Question for you Boomstick :
I purchased an original French DVD of The Killer from Woo that has the Extended Taiwanese version as a supplement (great by the way !!) but it is unfortunately plagued with horrendous superimposed subtitles over a grey square... I'm trying to find a non-tainted version, so if you can help... But here again folks, using the current cleaned print and some of the OCP magic described above, we could restore another masterpiece from Woo !!!!!!
Some days I wish I had the time to get on these myself....

Hello to all,

I’m new to the forum and enjoying the numerous Edits/Preservation Projects that got presented here…

Anyway I discovered that the Director’s cut of Hard Target is on the Bay.
The image is at least a 5th gen copy transfer from VHS and the image is timecoded twice on every frame !

That being said, since I have unfortunately ZERO editing skills (and no software to do so !) there might be a nice project here awaiting to be kick-started by a Woo enthusiast/ skilled editor that could recreate it by merging the retouched scenes with the official release a la Ocpmovie for the Classic Edition… Or maybe try some image enhancement on its original form…

Just my 2 cents…

Peace to all and to Ocpmovie, CBB, Fanfiltration, DigitalFreak and of course Blaksvn : KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS !!!
