I watched all three of your prequel edits recently. They felt seamless (except for perhaps that day-to-night shot in EpII) and as if they were actual replacements for the movies. Wish I had something like it to swap RotJ out with.
To chime in on the conversation above, I did miss the funeral scene (the music mostly) - but only because I knew about it previously. I think your revision here works well enough in concept. She looks clearly distressed in that scene (I’d imagine she wasn’t super keen on giving up Luke), and shortly beforehand the droid states that she won’t last very long. It just adds a nice extra lie from the Emperor to complete Vader’s transformation.
I should mention that I plan to release The Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialized Edition V2.2 with Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in the next 2-3 days. I remember that somebody requested a release like that and I’m happy to oblige.

Mhmm, Dolby Pro Logic II is a decoding processor for matrix-encoded surround sound. Essentially, surround sound downmixed to stereo that can then be reversed or upmixed. If your entertainment system features a DPLII mode, you can use the technology to simulate surround sound from standard stereo sound as well - even if it isn’t encoded. Fakes it in an acceptable manner for everyday use, I find.
I’m not positive about the following statement at all, but my uneducated understanding is that discrete channels like what kk650 is currently building are preferred to a simulated upmix.
My ears are a little sore from working so much on the cinema dts soundtracks these last few days but apart from that I’m great.

I am actually seriously considering creating an alternate version of ESB with the McDiarmid-Emperor scene instead, i’m not a big fan of the dialogue or the puffed up look of the SE emperor in that scene but you’re not the first to request it and it is a very easy change to make.
I have no plans to reintroduce Coruscant, Naboo pr Tatooine Celebration scenes. Coruscant and Naboo were never shown in the Original Trilogy so they have no place there and just remind people of the Prequels by being there. Tatooine was of course but it just looks ridiculously overcrowded, blatently CG and OTT in general IMHO, like something out ot the Prequels.

Those little featurettes that were on the VHS release before the film would be a good special feature. I grew up on the SE VHS and it's just a weird-feeling watching these movies without hearing some narrator go on about how I'm about watch George Lucas' definitive vision.

Hmm... that's interesting. The sharpness found on the broadcast is rather nice. It's most apparent on the folds and wrinkles in Leia's gown. Also there seems to be more visual detail on the sides (see the right side in this shot). DJ's looks cropped, is that a LD thing?
I'd still be quite happy watching something like what DJ has presented though

I'm trying to hunt down WookieGroomer's RotJ, as aDVD9 release. I found the EwokGroomer version and I read that it had audio sync issues. Now I found some "proper" release by someone named "DON".
Does anyone have this who could save me some bandwidth? Does it also suffer from audio issues?

Agreed as much as i loathe the 1997 special edition the colors and sound were not botched, and return of the jedi did not have Hayden and jar jar like in the 2004 cut.

I would like a fixed or tweaked 2004 with correct colors, the 1997 laserdisc sound mix. The closest thing i can get to that is Adywan's A New Hope Special edition in HD, but he removed Jabba and greedo shooting so it is not a pure preservation.
Ady had also made a ESB SE '97 in HD release. If any effort goes into tackling the '97 SEs by anyone (be it preservation or recreation or anything else), I hope RotJ gets tackled first.

They broadcast episodes 4 & 5 1997 SE version on ITV1 a couple of years ago but they switched to the 2004 version of ROTJ because ITV HD had just started and they wanted to show it in HD. The 1997 versions were cropped though to 16:9 to fill the screen so weren't really any good to archive.

Does anyone have images of the "A New Hope" logo? Not "Star Wars" and not the new prequel-esque "Episode IV" logo. The "A New Hope" logo that was used on some merchandise.
I want to make a series of covers for the original trilogy and just gathering resources at the moment. Spent a couple of hours browsing Google and Google Images, but came up empty handed.
Aiming for consistency in style across the three discs, so I need to know if I have that logo at my disposal or not.

The colour of the 2004 set is different from the 1997 special editions though.
Like captainsolo said, George's Technicolour print was used for the colour-timing - at least on A New Hope. I don't know about the other two. From those samples you posted I liked the warmer palette (even if one belonged to '97 and one was '04)
I agree that using the 2004 would be preferred because of the lack of smearing, but if you can - recolour the 2004 to match the '97 SE.
I think Empire of Dreams uses '97 SE footage if that's of any help.
I'm assuming the Silver VHS set was widescreen? I grew up on the Gold VHS set - which was fullscreen. So, I'd personally love if the colour matched that (or the Silver, assuming they're the same)

If you have an .iso, then just burn it with Disk Utility - as long as it fits your disc media, of course.
If you have just the directory structure, just burn to disc.
If you have a .mkv, then do a search for tsMuxerGUI Mac. You should find the .app for it. It doesn't work as-is on Snow Leopard. There's a fix floating around. You should be able to find it. With tsMuxerGUI, then you can create a AVCHD or Blu-ray structure. Then burn it to disc.
To just burn files to disc, use Burn.app
Very much looking for to when this gets released. I grew up on the Special Editions and looking forward to seeing this version of Return of the Jedi again. Better colours, eyebrows, no young Anakin, no Naboo, no weird lightsabers.

They did speak about fixing the matte lines on the snowspeeders. I grew up on those tapes! Those little introductory featurettes are part of the movies for me. I never watched the SE in theatres either. My only experience with the OT growing up were those SE VHSs.
When I bought the DVDs it was so jarring to watch the movies without those featurettes in front and without that big booming voice saying "Sit back and enjoy George Lucas' definitive version of _________: Special Edition"
I remember the ESB featurette highlighting the Hoth speeder mattes and transparencies.
Watch the YouTube clip now. I had only watched the older downloadable version before. With the side-by-side comparison, I take back my critique. The transparency is fine in ESBR
