Audio recording of Guardian reporter being assaulted…

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/24/greg-gianforte-bodyslams-reporter-ben-jacobs-montana

A statement by campaign spokesman Shane Scanlon blamed Jacobs for the altercation, saying that he “entered the office without permission, aggressively shoved a recorder in Greg’s face, and began asking badgering questions”.

“Jacobs was asked to leave,” the statement reads. “After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined. Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg’s wrist, and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground.

“It’s unfortunate that this aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist created this scene at our campaign volunteer BBQ.”

^ LOL. They might as well have gone with “I was just holding out my fist and the guy ran into it. There was nothing I could do”.

To remove any doubt, even the Fox news reporter who was there said…

“Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him.

“Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the man, as he moved on top the reporter and began yelling something to the effect of ‘I’m sick and tired of this!’ … To be clear, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff’s deputies.”

In other news…

Another Guardian reporter Vikram Dodd just posted…

The Guardian can confirm that Britain has stopped sharing evidence from the investigation into the Manchester bombing with the United States after a series of leaks left investigators and government furious.

The ban is limited to the Manchester investigation only, with Britain believing the leaks are unprecedented in their scope, frequency and potential damage.

A sad day.

That’s a very different conclusion from the ones reached by the FBI, and the relevant House and Senate investigations, none of which found she’d committed a crime.

No that’s wrong (CatBus is correct). As has been mentioned in this thread several times (along with quotes from the relevant laws). They NEEDED to prove intent, which they couldn’t. Hillary being possibly naive/lazy/foolish/incompetent is not enough and not a crime.

This is just wrong. Intent is not mentioned or inferred anywhere in the relevant statutes.

I can’t be bothered to look it all up again, so you can have that one.

US administration allegedly leaking even more sensitive UK intelligence on the Manchester bombing:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-40038630

Andy Burnham (Manchester Mayor) told Newsnight a decision had been taken to adopt a “cautious approach” to making information public, “and yet the first reports were coming seemingly out of the United States… it worries me greatly and in fact I made known my concerns about it to the US ambassador,”

A more accurate way for you to phrase your assertion could have been…

“She and her people set up their own private email server because it was easier and less of a hassle, which happened to circumvent those laws.”

So like I say, not a crime, or not provable as a crime. Case closed.

Everyone voted against Hillary because of the things Trump is actively doing right now.

Don’t forget that she was on Death’s door.

Last night I dreamt that the news announced Trump had died from a heart attack. Not making a joke, it’s just something that happened.

Come on Republicans (the politicians) this has got to be stopped and only you can do it. Compromising intelligence given in confidence by an ally (which for all I know, may be from my government) puts the lives of everybody in the world in danger, not just the US.

There is a saying “Country-before-Party” but that doesn’t even apply because the Republican party will actually be stronger if they ditch Trump now, before it gets any worse for them and they’ll still be in charge of everything. Everybody knows the Party didn’t want to support Trump from the beginning, so I think people will be willing to forgive them if they act swiftly. It’s a win-win for them.

Terrible DVD/Blu-ray Cover Art
Time

Love this thread. That R1 cover is shocking. Worthy of inclusion in an all-time-worst-photoshop-nightmares list, never mind just DVD covers.

I hated this cover for the TCM ‘The Lady from Shanghai’ blu-ray…

…fortunately the new Indicator release features artwork based on the original beautiful poster art…

Even though the features are very similar, I bought it just so I didn’t have to look at the TCM cover anymore when I wanted to watch the movie 😉 This old one is pretty suspect too…

Just playin’ devil’s advocate here but…

What if the whole Russia thing is nothing more sinister than general incompetence and naivety on the part of Trump and his team? If so, isn’t all this coverage a huge distraction by focusing on recent mad tweets like this…

…and not recent mad tweets like this…

Setting up an investigation into Trump’s imaginary voter fraud allegations (that just isn’t a thing in a free country, with a free press and free electoral oversight) but is probably going to be more about voter suppression is quite important.

European Jews in 1930 could not predict that three-quarters of their people would be slaughtered like animals in extermination camps just a mere decade later. People in 2014 had no idea the United States would become a totalitarian dictatorship helmed by a psychopathic former reality star and his equally psychotic family.

We are in hell; in fact we may have even surpassed it.

So if you think hell is better than here, if I told you to go there, it wouldn’t be an insult, would it?

Trump still PURGED Comey, something UNPRECEDENTED in US history. This something that Stalin would do, not a sitting president. Isn’t that why conservatives are afraid of the government in the first place?

Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton did this well before Trump did. Do some research on this.

😃

I thought you’d said earlier, that you were not trying to equate the two? generalfrevious is correct (as insane as that sounds), it is unprecedented. e.g. Firing your firm’s accountant because he was embezzling money and firing the same accountant for investigating yourself for embezzling, are not the same ball park, or even the same sport. The former is simply your job, the latter is deeply questionable.

I’m guessing some of you don’t remember this.

False equivalency.

Not so. A President is within his legal power to do it no matter which President it is.

This has nothing to do with my point, and everything to do with why it’s pointless to engage you on any topic.

Well then, explain, why do you believe it is a false equivalent?

Because Comey is not under investigation for using public funds for private use.

Because Sessions was not investigating Clinton’s possible collusion with another nation to > undermine the election.

Fair enough but I didn’t say anything about it being equivalent.

Oh for goodness sake.

You posting an article about a somewhat (on the surface) similar historical case (that the Trump team has also been spinning all over the place today), during a discussion of the current case and sarcastically saying “I’m guessing some of you don’t remember this” isn’t you suggesting they are equivalent? Really. Then what was it for?

Please explain exactly what you meant by posting it, who “some of you” are, why you think those persons won’t remember it and exactly what you meant by your comment in general.

(EDIT: Frink’s comment above was posted at the same time as mine, not before. So please don’t take this as another example of the mob persecuting you. We just happened to both think your comments were baffling)
