Carrie Fisher Suffers Major Heart Attack
Time

Peter Mayhew said:

It’s okay to grieve.

Our Princess: We in the Star Wars family have had a very difficult week with the passing of Carrie Fisher, and her mother. We are grieving. For most of us, it’s real grief, whether you met her or not, we all knew her. But it’s New Year’s weekend, and a lot of us will be getting together with “our family” to ring in the New Year. If you are at a show where we are, and plan to stop by our table, we want you to know it’s ok. Talk about Carrie, mention her, share condolences. We grieve with you. And then, tell a joke and be happy, because it’s what she would want us to do. She was a one of a kind, the emotional roller coaster is one we are all riding on together. Most importantly, as in all things Carrie Fisher, be real. May the Force be with you.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Fun fact, the first time I bought the trilogy on DVD was in 2006, and I unwittingly put on the bonus disc of ANH. Having not been following the controversy of the changes and being somewhat technologically inept, the next time I watched I put in the primary disk and immediately thought “what the hell, did these movies get updates through the internet or something!?”

Ranking the Star Wars Soundtracks

I’m not sure what a better way to describe it would be. It’s just so relentlessly bombastic. The frequent cymbal crashes, the stuttering trumpet accents. It sacrifices the subtlety the other scores have in order to be as big as possible at all times.

Also, it’s by far the worst in terms of recycling previous material. Almost half the movie is a cut and paste job.

Also also, “Battle of the Heroes” is a sludgy, plodding bore, and it’s the only theme from Sith that I can even remember without looking up. Seriously, the way people talk about that being one of the best soundtracks, I sometimes think there must be a version with an alternate score floating around that everyone’s seen but me.

The same could be said for Duel of the Fates. You’re supposed to be hearing this, but all I can hear is this…

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread

In retrospect, I really wish we got a Palpy cameo. We can afford take a break from the action to fly over to Mustafar and see what Vader’s up to in his Ralph McQuarrie Lava Castle, so seeing a brief scene of political exposition staring Monster Mash as ring leader of the senate would’ve elevated the film tremendously for me. Especially if he looked like the ROTJ emperor again.

All of this is subjective dude; you outta know that. Personally I don’t see how anyone could make the case that ROTJ is better than SW or ESB but hey, that’s their opinion. No one is really right in this situation even if you bring forth a stronger argument.

Oh, no way in hell does it surpass the original two. I just consider it my third favorite. I’m of the conviction that it’s a worse made film than the two current Disney films, yet it’s overall more enjoyable.

It has bits of everything I love in the OT: the three principles, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Vader, Palpy, Space battles, etc. and I also just like that it’s the grand conclusion to everything.

It tightly compresses all the best parts of pre existing films in a feature length runtime, albeit using hackneyed writing and retreading of familiar ground at times, while still serving an important part in continuing the story. Wait…that sounds awfully familiar…

ROTJ is objectively inferior to both Disney films. But I still love the way it’s paced, I think some of its music is the best of the OT (Luke & Leia, that burst of operatics when Luke unloads on Vader), and Ian Mcdiarmid’s presence is always sure to boost my personal score a few points. It’s the SW film I find myself coming back to the most (always theatrical, be it VHS/GOUT/Harmy). Just a compact, fun little send off to a great trilogy of films.
