The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

Rey has to fend for herself, get by on her own and survive all her life, while Luke sits around, chills with his friends, whines about moisture farm work and plays with model airplanes. They both have completely different backgrounds and mindsets when they get ahold of the force, so it would only be natural that Rey is more of a fast thinker and can catch on to the concept all the more efficiently.

The ‘IOU one backstory’ aspect is lame, but I’m certain VIII will forgive that. Galen Marek from The Force Unleased is likely the most ridiculously overpowered character in the whole damn franchise, and they still found a way to make the player relate to him. The same will be true for Rey, I’m sure Johnson and Kasdan will see to this.

(Also if Rey’s struggle was that much closer to Luke’s, wouldn’t it just be even more of an OT rip off? 😉)

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *

Max Landis popularized the term, which was taken from some obscure Star Trek fanfic parody. Regardless, pairing a criticism of the first female Main Character in Star Wars with a trope that also takes a woman’s name is rather stupid, if you’re trying not to come off as sexist. And not a great many people respected Landis’ viewpoints until his association with RedLetterMedia came to be.

Color matching and prediction: color correction tool v1.3 released!
Time

Question, for the technically inclined:

Is there a LUT equivalent of boosting/changing the hue of individual colors in Photoshop? I recall Mike mentioning how the red was unreasonably boosted on the BD. Out of curiosity, I was attempting to manually match a shot of R2 on the blu ray to Dre’s 4K77 grade, when I ultimately went to change the individual hue/saturation of the blues and reds:

For a still image, it’s a fine solution. But if I were to try and match my edit using the correction tool, the completed model would yield corrupted results. Is there any way to work around that incompatibility?

Here are five more preliminary color grades for the 4K video sample Williarob shared in the first post:

It’s bizarre, how much humanity is unquestionably restored just by maintaining the look of the original photography.

With the '04 master there was this visual suffocation of digital ‘cleanup’ forced onto a picture that very apparently didn’t have it to begin with, crossed with the dreary, crushing dark purple smeared over the whole damn film. It comes of as this sterile, smothered, sort of science experiment in motion.

With this, I can see a set. And actors, and people, and props, and…things. It’s almost like a real movie that actual living beings put love and care into. Simply put, it’s refreshing to see.

Trailer #2

I don’t understand how you can get that close to Darth Vader and not immediately be dead.

right… how may main characters in the OT did that? almost all of them.

Bait isn’t very effective when it’s dead, neither is killing the guy you’re trying to lure.

If you just stole the plans to the empire’s super weapon and Darth Vader is coming straight at you, you are dead, my friend.

Jedit: Wait…nevermind…
