I don't think Revenge Of The Sith is as good as everyone says it is.

Revenge of the Sith is great. I love the film. It’s my second favourite of the Prequels and fourth overall in my rankings as of right now. I don’t get why some people call Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side rushed as we see it being built to in the previous two films. In The Phantom Menace we see Anakin’s fear and in Attack of the Clones we see his anger and in Revenge of the Sith we see his hate. As our wise green friend says: “Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Agreed 100%. I think that all three prequels are really strong additions to the saga. I go back and forth between ROTS and TPM as my personal favorite. ROTS has the tragic angle and some of the best action in the PT but struggles at times to wrap everything up and set up the needed status quo for ANH. TPM is better plotted and has some really interesting world building. It also has the best lightsaber duel in the entire saga. The climax is admittedly overstuffed though and the first 20 minutes or so feel really rushed. I like AOTC but it looses some points because of the Sifo Dyas mystery angle, which was never really wrapped up until TCW, and some of the more over-the-top romantic dialogue.

Sorry I never saw you replied!

I can so understand what you mean! I honestly love TPM. It’s my favourite Star Wars film. I’ve posted on the rankings thread in great detail why it’s my favourite. AOTC is probably the weakest of George’s six films but it’s also really grown on me in a very big way the last year. I think seeing world building like Coruscant become more commercial, Anakin and Padme have to travel as refugees, Padme contrasting Palpatine by letting go her position of power, and other layered aspects really make for an interesting viewing when you consider the gradual change of tone in each entry. I’m firmly in the minority but I love Anakin and Padme’s romance. They’re both repressed and don’t know what love feels like. It’s not meant to be smooth and will be awkward. However their love overtakes all in the end. I really like when Padme tells Anakin: “Anakin, don’t try to grow up too fast.” It’s so simple yet it feels right. Even Anakin telling Padme: “The thought of not being with you - I can’t breathe.” is great foreshadowing. I do wish there were more clarity to the mystery of Sifo-Dyas. That’s probably the biggest thing I wish had been addressed further in the films. It’s one reason I loved the idea of Snoke as Plagueis. He would’ve influenced Sifo-Dyas to order the Clone Army and he and Palpatine would’ve built the Empire in partnership. Master and Apprentice. There’s always a bigger fish. Anyways, Revenge of the Sith is a great film. I only have minor nitpicks.

My rankings right now are: I, IV, V, III, VI, II, VIII, VII, and IX.

Pretty Woman, The Shawshank Redemption, Quantum of Solace, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Philadelphia… What do all of these films have in common? Opera. Each of these have some of their most memorable scenes set at the opera or featuring operatic music.

We’ve teamed up with video essayist, Lewis Bond of the YouTube channel ‘Channel Criswell’, to look at how the use of opera creates some of film’s most unforgettable stories.

OFFICIAL MLB THREAD

I don’t really watch baseball much, if at all, but I got MLB the Show 20 on sale for $9.99 and have found it’s really helped peak my interest in getting into baseball. In the past I’ve sort of followed the Mariners and Giants but with The Show I’ve been using the Mets the most and have really started to gain an affinity towards them. Not sure it’ll stick but it would be fun to have a team.

Whose everyone’s team here?

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * <strong>SPOILER THREAD</strong> *
Time

I can’t believe today is the five year anniversary of The Force Awakens. Although in retrospect I’m not really the biggest fan of the film I’m glad for its existence as it brought some good memories and people into my life.

I’ll also never forget the goosebumps I felt during this moment!

Edit: I got my date wrong by three days. Oops!

The Kenobi <s>Movie</s> Show (Spoilers)
Time

It could actually work in a way to have them meet.

As Vader also says “You should not have come back.” So perhaps they did meet during the time gap and it also gives us a chance to see verbally “Obi-Wan once thought as you do.” Instead of it being expressed through Obi-Wan’s defensive lightsaber fighting on Mustafar. Plus how does Obi-Wan know he’s “more machine than man”?

There a couple of ways to work around it if they want to go that way.

<strong>Star Wars: Rogue Squadron</strong> (theatrical film for 2023) - a general discussion thread
Time

The next Star Wars feature film will be Rogue Squadron — directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman franchise). The story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.

“It’s been a lifelong dream as a filmmaker to one day make a great fighter pilot film,” said Jenkins. “As the daughter of a great fighter pilot myself, some of the best memories of my life are of seeing my father’s squadron take off in their F4s every morning, and hearing and feeling the awe-inspiring power and grace. When he passed away in service to this country it ignited a burning desire to one day channel all of those emotions into one great film. When the perfect story arrived in combination with another true love of mine, the incomparable world of Star Wars, I knew I’d finally found my next film. I’m extremely honored and excited to take it on, and grateful to Lucasfilm, Disney, and the fans for extending that thrill to me.”

“Patty has established herself as one of the top directors working in the film industry today,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “She’s a visionary who knows how to strike the balance between action and heart, and I can’t wait to see what she does in the Star Wars galaxy.”

Lock S-foils in attack position: Rogue Squadron arrives in theaters Christmas 2023.

George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy
Time

Anakin Starkiller said:

I’m gonna be honest, this does not sound very good. If you’re gonna resurrect somebody, it should be Palps.

I disagree because it diminishes the significance of Anakin’s legacy and redemption. I’d personally go with Darth Plagueis as you can have him reveal he influenced Sifo-Dyas to order the Clone Army and ultimately created the Skywalker bloodline, only for it to be revealed by the Whills that they influenced the midi-chlorians to create Anakin. I think it really contrasts The Phantom Menace beautifully as Anakin built C-3PO out of love and purity for his mother, while Plagueis only tried to create a vessel to gain immorality and this resulted in the creation of the Chosen One and the Skywalker family who are the extension of and part of the Ones. Very much in line with what we see and learn on Mortis.

However I’m not opposed to Darth Maul returning. I was a little iffy about it at first but the more I think about it, I really like it a lot. In The Clone Wars we see him running a crime syndicate and ultimately have Palpatine imprison him. So he could be bordering along the lines of unraveling insanity when we meet him again. This contrasts the seductive and alluring Darth Talon who corrupts the grandson to join her in overthrowing him while the granddaughter tries to bring her brother back to the Light before it’s too late. I also really like the connection between Darth Maul and Luke as they both have a history with Obi-Wan.

Darth Maul is the right villain for the last link to the era lost without diminishing Anakin’s arc.

Unpopular Opinion Thread
Time

A thread to discuss your unpopular Star Wars opinions.

I’ll start:

The Prequel Trilogy is the best era.

Rogue One and The Last Jedi are the best films of the Disney era.

Solo is too modern and topical but has some pretty cool concepts and moments. Namely Enfys Nest’s reveal and Darth Maul’s appearance.

Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side doesn’t feel rushed.

Anakin and Padme’s romance is believable.

The Ewoks are cute and feisty. They also serve an important role within the narrative.

Clone Wars and The Clone Wars are both equally great series.

Rebels is up there as part of the best content from the Disney era.

The Original Trilogy is just as flawed as the Prequel Trilogy but both are amazing.

Disney should’ve followed George’s Sequel Trilogy treatments.

Attack of the Clones is underrated.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **
Time

I agree with him that Yoda is the better mentor for the moment because Obi-Wan tells Luke in Return of the Jedi that Yoda will always be with him. It makes sense that Yoda would be the one to appear to Luke when he’s tapped back into the Force. However I couldn’t disagree more about Luke’s relationship being more with Vader than Anakin.

Let’s rewatch this scene from Return of the Jedi.

https://youtu.be/w-HFv6Ms1lw

Anakin should’ve appeared though to Ben Solo instead of the figment of his imagination. Why didn’t Anakin appear before? Dark Side users can’t see Force Ghost. That’s at least what I think George said once. So it makes sense he’d appear at his moment of redemption. You could have Anakin and Luke communicate after Rey leaves the island for a brief moment and talk about how they’ll both finish what they started all those years ago on Death Star II.

Sequel Trilogy Opinions

The Force Awakens:

A New Hope 2.0. It introduces pretty interesting new characters while breaking lore and canon. It also disguises itself with nostalgia for the Original Trilogy to evoke feelings within us to give us the fuzzies.

The Last Jedi:

Interesting ideas, beautiful cinematography, great designs overall, some pretty cool new ideas like Force Projection, and yet continues the new tradition of breaking lore and canon. It at least acknowledges the Prequel Trilogy exists.

The Rise of Skywalker:

We’re sorry. We’ll make it better. Promise. A couple of good moments when you don’t consider context. Namely Leia training with Luke.

Having said all that I can enjoy each of them to some extent on the surface but really only if I don’t consider them as a continuation and conclusion of George’s six films.
