DarkFather Begins - Where did your Star Wars story begin?
Time
I'm pretty sure I first watched Star Wars on the VHS tapes back in '95, so I would've been 9-years-old at the time. I rented ANH at a local grocery store, became hooked and immediately checked out ESB and ROTJ. Then I bought them on VHS. LOL. And when I became introduced to something, I usually went all out - so I tried to learn everything I could about the films. I checked out all the books I could at the library. The next year, the Nintendo 64 came out and I bought Shadows of the Empire - I still have a big soft spot for that game to this day.... Hmm... Then in '97-'98, the Special Editions came out. I didn't even care about the new additions at the time, like Jabba in ANH. I just thought it was awesome to see the films in the theaters. Annnnd, it pretty much went from there. Kind of like a roller coaster ride. The euphoria of discovering the originals, seeing them in the theater and then the unbearable hype and anticipation for TPM in '99. And then, of course, the punch in the gut that the prequels ultimately were.... lol.

The People VS George Lucas teaser trailer

The whole thing of mutilating Star Wars with the special edition and replacing the originals with it so the originals may not be available in the future, that's a stab in the heart. That's no minor thing. That's crime against the huge numbers of people who loved the originals.

That pretty much sums it up. I'm probably just repeating what everyone else here has said more eloquently than me... but it just boggles the mind why Lucas seems to loathe the original trilogy so much. He doesn't understand how important the original incarnations are for all of us who saw the OT when they were first released. It's ridiculous that he just can't give those fans a decent release of the films. These are the people who made him rich in the first place. Instead, all he does is throw out a half-assed DVD set, and then pretends that the "modified" versions of the OT are the "real" things. And he'll just keep changing and changing the original movies until they're no longer recognizable. Check out the "Free Hat" episode of South Park. lol.

There are so many other filmmakers out there that respect the fans by making all versions of their films available... Just look at the Blade Runner blu-ray released by Ridley Scott. There are so many versions of that film, and Scott made ALL of them freely available and in decent quality. Lucas, on the other hand, seems to refuse that the original versions of the OT were valid, and he'll never be satisfied with them.

The Prequels: I seriously cannot watch Star Wars anymore.

What i cannot believe if that it took 10 years for it to sink in that the prequels suck.

Anybody Celebrating the Tenth anniversary of the Phantom menace  this year?

Wow. That fact just hit me like a load of bricks... I can't believe it's been 10 years since TPM. It's mind-blowing how the state of SW has changed in the years since 1999.... :(

Wow. This thread touches on a lot of great points that I totally agree with. Especially:

The thing that works for me is to look at the PT as almost EU, so you can take it with a grain of salt and accept it or not.

In my mind, I've just completely separated the prequels from the OT. To me, they're like mindless SW-spin off video games (which isn't exactly false... lol) and crappy EU at best, so I don't consider them canon. I just focus on the OT, and how they're simply the three little movies that I grew up loving and still love to this day.  The last prequel I saw was ROTS once in the theater, and I haven't seen any of them since then. I just kind of act like they don't exist. LOL.

There's also solace in knowing that 20 years from now, the OT is what people and film historians will still remember, not the prequels...

My idea for the Star Wars TV show
Time
TheBoost said:

I would love to see a show just like The Clone Wars (CGI) but covering between Star Wars and Empire. Just simple adventures of Luke, Han, Leia and the gang, perhaps against Vader and some newly created 2nd string villains.

And after that, another series about Luke, Lando, Leia and the gang between Empire and Jedi.

I agree with you there, but I'd prefer great-looking, 2D animation over CGI any day. I've always thought it would've been cool to have an animated series done by someone like Bruce Timm, since he's actually done a lot of pretty cool SW drawings and seems to be a fan. Alas, only in my dreams, though... I don't think kids would go for it, either, especially after they've had their brains fried by all of the prequel/Clone Wars crapola.

An animated version of Shadows of the Empire would've been kinda cool, too. I think I'm one of the few that actually liked the book, though. LOL.

Hold me like you did by the lake on Naboo... barf

Interesting thread... I think it's obvious that however cheesy their dialogue may have been, Han and Leia had much, much, MUCH more chemistry than Anakin & Padme. It's almost laughable to compare the two relationships. Han and Leia were interesting and there was real, palpable sexual tension between the two... at least, in ANH & ESB. Han and Leia kind of fizzled out in ROTJ and they became boring.

Anyway, going back to Anakin and Padme... Their chemistry was so lifeless that I couldn't even bring myself to get through their scenes together without gritting my teeth. Again, Han and Leia were adults with a real tension between them... Anakin and Padme seemed like teenage siblings. LOL! Heck, Padme had more chemistry with Obi-Wan than she did Anakin, which is kind of hilarious.

I'm not sure... I just read the info at theforce.net, but they don't say where they've heard there will be an announcement. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. You're right - the only thing on starwars.com is what seems to be a picture of Yoda from the animated series.

<-- still hoping the movie thing doesn't come true lol

Anyone else totally disregard Leia being Luke's sister?

Ditto. I'd always assumed Lucas was planning the Luke/Leia thing during ESB (with the "There is another" line, etc), yet I'd always been baffled by the kiss. I had no idea he'd just thrown that line in ESB w/o any thought process behind it, and had to fix it later in ROTJ. Very interesting...

Indiana Jones IV

So, are they immortal since they didn't take it past the seal, or do her actions cost them everlasting life? I'm thinking the latter.

I always thought Indy and his dad couldn't have been immortal because they left the temple. As the Knight said, the price for immortality was that they had to remain there forever. The other Knight left and died of extreme old age, which is what ADM touched on. Indy and his dad aren't immortal because they drank from the grail, but they could be aging a lot slower... Hence the possibility of an Indy movie in the present day. That would be an interesting idea, but I don't know how well it could be pulled off.

Thread for N00Bs?
Time
Well, I'm kind of embarrassed even posting this idea, and I apologize in advance. N00b here. Please bear with me. lol. I just stumbled upon the forum section of this site a few days ago (even after sigining the petition way back when), and my mind is officially blown after browsing the board and hearing about all of these fan edits and preservation efforts. I mean... seriously. I must've been living under a rock this entire time, because I had no idea this particular kind of community existed.

ANYWAY. Getting to the point. I've gone through all the sticky threads and have a very vague idea of how things work, but I'm still a bit in the dark of how to get started with all of this stuff. I've heard the "PIF" method mentioned, but I would be interested to learn more about how exactly that works... how to contact people, etc. I also don't have a DVD burner (being a poor college student sucks), so I'd be curious to know if any other methods besides torrenting and burning are available? So, I was just wondering if a basic FAQ would be possible for n00bs like me? Like a "How Things Work" thread or something like that. I'm really excited to have joined this community, and hopefully I can contribute back in some way. I'm really interested in the custom DVD covers, especially, because I'm a junkie for Photoshop. LOL.

LOL, the CGI whip idea is ridiculous. I'm glad Harrison Ford is having none of it.

As far as the look goes... I think it would be best if they tried to make it look like the previous films. I mean, yeah, they have these really nice cameras that can do lovely cinematography... But a bleached-out Indy (ala Minority Report or Saving Private Ryan) would be jarring, I think.
