It wouldn't take much effort to sync up a replacement video for the blu-ray using the iTunes/HDTV footage and put it into the original bluray structure with multiavchd.
I have the HDTV and iTunes versions of Sword In The Stone. The HDTV version is a higher bitrate but it's also only 720p while the iTunes version is 1080p. Also, the HDTV version is from a German broadcast so the title of the movie is in German during the opening.
Yes, the UK Second Sight release has 1080p video. It also uses the same 480i NTSC video files as the US release for the extras. No Pal speedup or frame blending mess.
The UK bluray is region free. It has most of the extras but they removed the isolated music and sound effects track and the AC3 5.1 audio track. It does have the original stereo mix and the running commentary tracks in LPCM, though. I'm considering making my own custom bluray that has the 1080p video and all of the audio options of both versions.

I got the UK bluray and ended up using that for the source video since it was a proper 1080p transfer compared to the 1080i transfer on the US bluray.
Another movie that might be nice to see in HD is Screamers.

I'm not finding that one anywhere. Any hints you can offer on how it's labeled and/or which group it might be in? All I see is a 1080i AVCHD of RotLD 3 that's ~8 gigs.

Oh, hey. What about Buckaroo Banzai? That was a weird but fun movie and the chances of a decent bluray release are probably pretty slim from what I understand.
WB has pretty much missed every opportunity they had to release The Iron Giant to bluray so far. They promised a release 2 years ago and failed to follow through so I'm not holding out hope on that one. It's an awesome movie but WB has neglected it on a regular basis.
If the teaser trailer was filmed at 1.85:1, it's still possible the scope trailer might be pillar boxed instead of cropped.

There are a handful of movies I would like to see on bluray that are currently on Vudu:
The Iron Giant - This is probably my favorite animated film of all time.
Airplane II - Not as good as the original but still really funny.
UHF - I have the HDTV rip of this one but it could use something a bit better and there are a lot of extras out there for the movie.
Also, I have the UK bluray for the original Transformers: The Movie (the animated film from 1986) along with tons of extras, including a few things that weren't on the DVD or Bluray releases but I'd love to see sort of an ultimate bluray.
I was considering doing an HD remaster of the teaser trailer. I have all the elements necessary to do it but I'm not sure which version of the movie I would use as the source footage and things are really busy right now, so I won't be working on it anytime soon. Especially since I scrapped the plans for the custom bluray.
Aren't the trailers already available in HD on the bluray? I could have sworn they were.
After doing various comparisons, I don't feel this project is worth turning into a full-fledged bluray disc. The MGM retail bluray shows signs that it was upscaled from a 720p master but the unreleased Sony bluray has the contrast boosted too much. The Sony master looks as if they used a 1080p or 2k source but for the details that are retained, more are lost due to the blown out whites and blacks.
I'm rendering the video out to be released as a smaller 1080p video file which I will make available if anyone wants it.
I'm happy to hear that people are pleased with the 5.1 upmix process. I'm in the process of using it on a few of titles that had LPCM 2.0 audio only in order to locate areas where it can be improved even further. I have a 5.1 DTS upmix of Short Circuit 2 that has a couple of spots I need to work on at the moment.
I did frame-by-frame restoration. I used the French HDTV footage to restore the parts of the frames that were censored on the US Blu-Ray. It wasn't a full frame replacement.
I think the towel blot was on the laserdisc and first release of the DVD. It was removed for the second release of the DVD and the Blu-ray.
Thanks to Silverwook, I have the frames from Trail Mix-Up with the uncensored Rigid Tools poster. I'm over half done restoring the poster into the blu ray footage.
I got my disc today. The sound is great and, considering the source material that was used, the video looks really good. I liked the extras with the packaging, too. It looked very professional.... probably better than what we would get with an actual studio release, actually.
I would like to hear feedback on the 5.1 surround track. It's a process I've been working on for a while with constant attempts to improve it. I sent instructions for the latest version of the process to DJ to use on FN2 and he suggested a few tweaks.

The US and International versions both had the S-Mart ending. The Director's Cut has the original apocalypse ending and the original Japanese LD was basically the International version with the original apocalypse ending.
The German set is the way to go if you want the most complete package but the French Blu-ray has all three versions as well. Both the French and German BDs have different degrees of DNR and EE on the US version. The only releases that didn't use DNR were the US HD-DVD and the UK Blu-ray.
The transfer used to create the Director's Cut and International Cut looks good overall but the whites are blown out and the overall detail level is lower than that of the transfer used to create the US theatrical versions. I've considered trying to create sort of a hybrid version of the Director's Cut that uses the UK BD for most of the footage and only uses the DC transfer for footage that wasn't in the US theatrical release but the framing is different on both versions which presents it's own problems.
