Thanks for all the input. This gives me a lot to think about. I want to retain the best quality that I can from the source audio, so I may have to do some major work to get this audio synced up properly. I haven't found anything that would let me adjust the audio to re-sync in any of the video editing software, which is a shame.
Any updates on getting a few decent-quality screen caps of the Rigid Tools poster from the Trail Mix Up short? I tried reconstructing it from the two different versions I found but it didn't work all that well. There's too much of a difference in quality. If I have a few different frames from the same source, I could reconstruct that part of the background image and then edit it into the censored version.
It appears to be a third version. The video is ripped from the R2 Japanese DVD and the audio and subtitles are from the US DVD, R2 Japanese DVD, and the UK VHS release.
There's a version of the series on bakabt that has all three versions of the dialog (Japanese, US English, and UK English) along with the commentary. It uses the Japanese R2 DVD video which is from the same source as the US reissue so you could probably rip the audio from that version and pair it with the US dvd release.
Disney is more likely to remove Jabba The Hutt from the entire series because his lego playset upset a group of Muslims.
I have the video and audio captured together on a VHS rip. Is it better to cut frames and cut the audio in the process or expand and compress the audio. When I synched the first spoken line and the last spoken line in the movie, the audio would go in and out of sync throughout the movie.
Apparently, there were a limited number of test screenings of the first film before it was released that were based on a workprint. I figure it's possible that a few people may have seen some of the deleted scenes this way. According to various reports, though, the workprint that was shown for the test screenings had almost no music and most of the ADR work was missing, including Darth Vader and Chewbacca's voices... so the audience heard David Prowse and Peter Mayhew performing the lines instead.
I guess a simulated workprint could be recreated using the deleted scenes on the blu-ray set but it would be missing most of the pre-foley and pre-ADR sound.

I have the audio to an English-language movie that was only released on VHS in English but has a Japanese DVD release with only the Japanese dub. I want to match up the VHS audio to the DVD video but it's not a simple matter of making sure the length matches. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to adjust the audio so that it syncs up with the video?
Do the edits I made to remove the censoring look good? I reviewed them on a couple of different displays but I want to make sure there isn't anything I might still need to correct.
Will you also be using the audio from the 16mm print or will it be pulled from one of the other existing sources?
I can't wait to see how this one turns out. My only worry is that the transfer will end up in the hands of bootleggers who will use it to make cheapo blu-ray discs to sell. I guess these things are inevitable, though. :/
If there are any other edits, they aren't obvious or documented anywhere. I went through the French version looking for things that could, reasonably or unreasonably, be edited and couldn't find any other differences but those single-frame gags can be sneaky. Still, all three of these changes have been previously proven and documented. The rumored bathroom wall phone number has never been actually been proven and even if it was in the theatrical release, it was removed prior to the version used for the French HDTV transfer.
There are a couple of frame replacements in avisynth. If I can ever get one of them to work, I'll post a script if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas both work. You have to rip the Bluray video to something they will read, though.
I converted the frames to png and zipped them into a single file. What would be the best way to share them?
I uncensored all of the edited frames that I could find. There were only three segments that have been properly confirmed to have been altered from the original release.
The replacement frames are layered PDF files. I can just share them and let people do with them as they wish. I just thought most people would rather have them in the movie instead of needing to rip the video from the blu-ray, replace the frames, and re-render the movie.
I could probably create a movie-only BD-25 without any menus. I just need to figure out the best compression for that. I'm adding French and German dialog tracks as well as a bunch of subtitles that I found.
I rendered the video and compressed it to h264 with an average bit rate of 15.0 Mbps and the video file alone came out to 11gb. It looks really good but I think I should probably recompress so the file size is a little smaller.

It's part of the background painting, so it shouldn't change size and shape much from one frame to another. If I had enough different screenshots of different frames featuring the poster, the image could probably be reconstructed to some degree.
It looks like the DVD may have left one frame unblurred. I don't have the DVD version of the short to verify this, though.

I've got all the Jessica Rabbit frames restored. Now I just need to find time to insert the restored frames back into the film and render it out. I'll post screenshots when I get a chance to upload them.
Maybe the corner with the brightcrotch FX was where the pantyhose over the lens ended. A little extra light was coming in from the corner and the rest was history.
Harmy, are you going to add grain and adjust the brightness on this scene in 2.5 to more closely match the IB and 35mm footage?
