If Heath Ledger was still alive, the Dark Knight would not be #4 on the imdb top 250. It the millennial version of The Crow. The batman movies are on the same level as the fantastic four adaptations.

If that were true, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus would also be on there, but the movie was underwhelming so it isn’t. Heath Ledger made the Joker into a shockingly realistic character regardless of his death.

Yet, I do feel the ingredients for a decent movie are there, especially when one factors in the 30 minutes of deleted footage coming to Blu-Ray.

Unlike a lot of movies, including Superman Returns and Man of Steel, I do feel that this could be truly saved with a precise fan edit. Scenes should start too early and end too late, while some sequences seem completely out of place (Darkseid vision? “Do You Bleed” confrontation?). Look forward to seeing improved fan versions in the future.

There’s certainly an abundance of talented and ruthless editors on here… 😃

Damn right, I think I’ll be able to make this good

I have not seen this movie, but I can safely say this is one of the worst films of the last twenty years. No one should see this movie, period. If you pay money you are supporting this atrocity and incentivizing Warner Bros to make more depressing Holocaust dramas disguised as superhero films. Zack Snyder is a terrible person and should be locked up in the Hague for crimes against humanity, let alone be allowed with fifty feet of a film camera. Why this fucking psychopath chose filmmaking in the first place is beyond me; he seems like a person who waterboards suspected terrorists for the CIA. This movie is so awful I’d rather have Joel Schumacher direct it.

What the hell are you talking about?

Chappie was such a complete and utter disappointment. It makes me sad as Blomkamp seemed to have so much potential after his first film. But everything since has been pretty disappointing.

Agreed

On another note, I’ve been watching movies like crazy for the past few days and here are the ones I hadn’t seen before:
Batman V Superman: 7/10
10 Cloverfield Lane:9/10
Mockingjay Part 2: 4/10

My controversial list:

  1. Revenge of the Sith

The way it neatly ties up the whole saga with a little bow just slightly edges it into first place. The final confrontation between Anakin and Obi-Wan is what the whole prequel trilogy has been leading to, and George Lucas did not disappoint, especially when it is finished and Obi-Wan is on the verge of tears. Just a really good, underrated movie. A-

  1. The Empire Strikes Back

What more is there to say that hasn’t been said already? The pacing is great, the direction is great, the acting is great. A couple of bumps along the way, but as a whole, this movie is really great. A-

  1. Attack of the Clones

Yes, Attack of the Clones, the really bad one, at number three. That’s because of the whole Kamino sideplot, which really just hearkens back to old mystery and detective novels. The whole Kamino plot is just facinating and always keeps my attention. It also helps that it puts my favourite Star Wars character in the spotlight, Obi-Wan. Sure, the romance is very weak and awkward, as are the characters of Anakin and Padme, but the rest of the film more than makes up for this. B+

  1. Return of the Jedi

This movie is pretty good all around, but the laziness of the plot really doesn’t help. A second Death Star, really? The tone of the movie is also all over the place, cutting from dark moments back to lighthearted silly moments with the Ewoks. A good movie, with some major flaws. B

  1. The Force Awakens

This movie is also a good film, with its major problem being a lack of originality. The idea of Starkiller Base is just really stale, and when it blows up, I didn’t feel anything. The character of Poe is who we’re supposed to root for during those scenes, but he was barely even in the film, so I couldn’t form a connection to him. The characters of Rey and Finn fare much better, and Kylo Ren is a really interesting character, who I can’t wait to see in later episodes. B

  1. A New Hope

I am in the minority here, but I don’t think this movie is all that great. It has some really great moments, sure, but the overall story is very generic and boring. Darth Vader in this film is a generic bad guy, as is Tarkin, and neither of which ever interact with the protagonist, Luke. Ben Kenobi is just made to spout off exposition about the force the whole time, and when he dies, I don’t care. The lightsaber fight between him and Darth is also laughably bad, as not only is it visually boring, but I don’t care about either of the characters. It’s good, but very overrated. B-

  1. The Phantom Menace

This film is not only bad, but is extremely boring as well. All of the characters are boring, and my favourite, Obi-Wan gets nothing to do. Both Anakin and Jar Jar annoy me to hell, and they are the best characters in the movie. The story is also bogged down in politics and trade debates, which is not what a Star Wars film should be. C-

Honestly this is a much safer place to express your opinion then TFN.forums.

We’ll disagree with each other but it never turns nasty, we just have reasonable arguments with actual points included.

Once it’s legal for us to post clips for TFA fanedit ideas I will put up two maybe that are gonna be Hans death with added music from ROTS. There is a last stretch of music in “Anakins Dark Deeds” that I could use which I find works best or the immolation scene music which is good too.

This?

I love that song! It’s one of my favourite John Williams queues.

One large problem with the “Birth of Darth Vader” scene is that he looks silly with the restraints on his wrists and he has awkward posture, you might just want to use a few shots from here: https://youtu.be/LK58iuqfdxg?t=2m40s

I think I’ll be using those shots even though it’s completely CGI. Darth Vader looks scarier here, I could cut back and forth between the Emperor, the walls being crushed and the video game footage to make a more convincing scene.

When it comes to Darth Vader breaking things, I’ve always thought something like this: https://vimeo.com/160550668 would work more. I have an in-depth description on the video to explain why I tried this. (Note: this is very rough, I did it in under a minute, it’s just a test)

I just wish that the didn’t imply that he was alive, they will resurrect him in the next movie anyway and I’m sure there’ll be a scene where he rises from the grave anyway. I don’t know why they decided to tack that on there. Bruce Wayne’s lines at the end about finding “the others like you” felt forced and unneeded. Actually all of the Justice League scenes felt unneeded, they will re-explain that they are tracking down other heroes in the next film anyway so why throw all of that shit into Batman V Superman? Ah whatever, I’ll just fanedit it.

Thanks! I am not sure what Myspleen’s policy on Fan Edits for TFA is going to be due to the legality of it all and how recent the film is. Hopefully though we will have an easy way to share these things.

I wouldn’t exclusively upload to myspleen, try to get it onto fanedit.info

I think the scene works best with no voiceovers whatsoever, the audience should know what Anakin is thinking about, and if they don’t then the movie has failed to achieve it’s goals.

On another note I thought I’d just post some of my rough and/or experimental clips:

-Anakin deeper voice: (https://vimeo.com/159893770)
-My radical TPM opening sequence: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sU3kLGa7RI) (https://vimeo.com/159310065)

This is going to be my personal edit of the film. It is mostly pretty minor changes but it will make the film flow better in my opinion:

-Remove 90% of Maz’s Scenes (pointless exposition)

  1. None of her explaining what the force is, how she’s seen many eyes, etc. What she says is nonessential to the plot in my opinion
  2. Rey will have the lightsaber flashback and will run out of the tavern immediately afterwards (no Maz pointlessly explaining to the audience that the lightsaber was calling to her)
  3. Remove Maz telling Finn that a lightsaber is a weapon (he already knows this as he has seen Kylo use one, so it doesn’t make sense)

-Remove some Starkiller base items

  1. Reduce the First Order Motivational Speech
  2. Remove Starkiller base firing scene and the reactions (no ties to these characters whatsoever and the planet they are firing on isn’t explained either)

In addition here are some dream edits I would like to make but do not possess the skills or sources to do so at the moment:

-Change the sound mix to be more like the other 6 films, where the music is quite a bit louder than it is in The Force Awakens (honestly I think TFA has a very good soundtrack, it was just drowned out). This would of course require possession of multitracks to do right or very significant processing to try and extract certain elements out.

-Change the color correction of the film to be closer to the Original Trilogy. TFA looks great and was shot very well, but I do not agree with the final color correction.

That actually sounds pretty good! I’ll probably check this out

Chappie

Oh boy, where to start? Firstly, the main characters are annoying unlikable pricks who made me want to punch someone. Did Neil Blomkamp really think I would root for these people? Chappie was also a really unlikable character, made only to spout some pretentious bullshit about emotions and whatnot, and also to be the main characters slave for most of the film. The CGI is good, and Sharlto Copley did a good voice performance as Chappie (did he do the mo-cap, or was Chappie entirely CG?), and Dev Patel was likable enough, dsepite being featured in the film for like, 10 minutes. And don’t get me started on Hugh Jackman’s cringeworthy villain. The worst line in big budget cinema history will forever be “How 'bout a clusterbomb? Heheheh!” The whole film felt like Short Circuit + Robocop + Housos - anything good about those three things,

Final rating: 3/10

I really really tried to enjoy this movie, but I just couldn’t. You pretty much addressed all of its issues, it’s pretty sad that all of the potential went to waste
