as for hockey what is different is the size of players, players are bigger now then they were then, the quality of the atheletes is better now and so skill has been blured. also you have different styles of play, in the 80s you had run and gun hockey, now it is all defensive you have the trap. in the 80s you didnt have video analysis, now you do. A goalie nwo adays in teh NHL will watch videos of opposing players inorder to learn there habits, this help's them predict where the shot is coming from and were it is going. So the rules havent changed but the times have, people player in different ways and do different things, to try and do the same thing 'win'.

your right you can compare them however you cant say one is better then the other because they were done in different times. it would be like comparing the modern version of Antigone to the sophocles version they were done in different times and with different mind one is not nessarily better then the other. But the bottem line as i said before is that bakshi's version wasnt complete. so we don't know how good/bad of a adaption it could have been.

exactly that is why certain changes had to be made to the movie, to make it flow. to bring tolkiens expansive books into and intensive storyline. i be the first one to say that i wasnt please with the amount he added liv tyler into the mix, and how he used elves at helms deep rather then the rangers, but if PJ had used all of the characters that were suposed to be used he would have had to use alot of screen time to explain them. the changes that he made were his and they had reason behind them.

well lets see i have read the book once a year since i was hmm 10. i have done projects on the book, for school i have done biographies on tolkien, i know the boks inside out. that what i base my assertion on. as for ralph Bakshi's version, yes i personally liked it, however all the stuff he did with the orcs the half cartoon half constume shit was stupid, also not finishing is a big indicator on how good some people thought the movie was. and dont tell me that it did a good job of portraying the books, because he never finished the hard part of it. the fellowship and the first half of TTT are the easiest parts to adopt from the book cus there is lots of imagery. but ROTK had alot of events that happen quickly and close together, that dont take much time in the book but take alot of time in the movies. But man you can't compare his version to PJs version why cus they were made in different times, by different people, in different mediums, and with different bugets.

i was accounting for that man but your right it wouldnt be 30 hrs long a direct tranlation of the books into a movie would be at least 15hrs. rent the bbc versions of books the total air times adds up to 13 hours, that is with larger portions of dialog cut out. the lotr movies add up to 10 hrs. hmm.. thats 3 full hours. on top of that 20-30% of the films were scene without dialog showing middle earth. you cannot expect people to go and see a 15 hr movie, the current versions were really pushing the lengths as it was. also i am sure you can read that you can read a peice of dialog faster then a person can say it. espeically when they have to act it out.

I will bet you a million dollars that you will never find a kid that feels and talks as passionately about the PT as some of the people here(including me) feel and talk about the O OT. Change is not always a good thing.


of course you wouldnt because kids today arint like that. you dotn get kids that love things the same way you loved them when you were the same age. i do know that you would find many many kids that really liked the movies. that thought they were good.

Change is a good thing, you want to know the real reason why the PTs movies and of the new reamkes are not good in your eyes, it one reason only: you hav changed that is why you dont like it, your personalities are different and so when you see things you interpet them differently. that is why, go find a kid the same age as you when the first SW movies came out and ask him what he thought of the PTs. same goes with many of the other remakes that are coming out.




and MAN i am a lotr king, i worship those book and i find it offensive when you say that they were butchered. sure they weren't as good as the books but you cant make those books directly into movies its impossible, you'd get a 30 hour movie. What PJ made was an incredible adaption of the books, one that far surpassed my expectations, and ill tell you my expectations were very high.

you really need to get out more too, the entertainment industry is not butchering your childhood, they are remaking in way so that it is liked by the kids today. remember to shot beasties, i am sure your going to say that butchered transforms actually it did the opposite.

now to maddogg, you cant take offside out of the game it would be stupid if they did, how ever i agree with you there need to be fewer wistles, no i think to achieve this 2 rules need to be changed or one feature needs to be changed. first the rules, if the NHL were to take out the 2 line pass rule, which i think is rediculous longer passes could be made and you would see more break-aways and two on ones, the trap would also desolve because the neutral zone would seem bigger. also less trap = better hockey(80s hockey). the second rule would be to widen the blue lines, as it is now and offside is if the players foot is past the line if it is still on it its far game. widening the blue line would make all the zones bigger thereby killing the trap and making it easier to be onside. the second of these rules is already being tried out in the AHL. the last thing you could do is to make the rinks bigger make them international size. one of the reasons there are more stops in play is because of the clutching and grabing that is involve in the trap style of hockey. since players are bigger now then they were in the 80s this style has become more apparent in the play. increasing the rink size would spread out the play mroe and if players wanted to continue tp play this method they woudl risk creating wide open ice with would creat more flow and fast paced action.

ok we have a final offer from the league, 42.5 million cap, with the 24% rollback response is due by tommorow morning

watch players are going to come back with 46 mill owners are going to say no

then tommorow jsut b4 the conference they will offer 44 take it or leave it. and that is what it'll be. it all comes down to that. the union is crumbling now, the NHL has them on there knees.

Hey did you guys just here the fucking news, appearently the nhl and the PA went to washington yesterday and had a chat with a US gov mediator and still couldnt resolve there fuckin differences. talk about num nuts eh.

todays news ted saskin and bill daily are meeting for dinnir tonight. and so because of that they postponed the new conference to wednesday. fuckers the idoits are going to come to a fuckin deal why don't they just come to it, end the season tommorow at 9 am et so the owners can start the impass process and be done with it.



now as for my speel i got at the players quite abit now for bettmen. fuckin we have such a dumb ass at the NHL helm that it isnt even funny. yes he is smarter then goodnow cus he sees that a business(which hands down but professional sports are nowadays) cant run without some sort of linking of costs and salaries. but this guy man he pisses me off, why because of how he acts. the guy is full of himself he is a small rich pencel pushing piece of shit that has never played hockey in his life and doesnt have an ounce of knowledge about the sport in his head. i said earlier why the players have no trust on the owners well this guy and the way he acts talking down to people he believes are less intellenge then him doesnt help the cause. hockey players for the most part a pretty honourable people(argue that if you want but its the truth), and i dont know about you guys but i dont like being talked down to especially by someone like bettman. the next case in point is the fact that this guy won't even be smart about what he does. the players back on december 9th offered a 6 year deal which said used the players method for 3 years then the if the nhl was in bad shape a cap would come into play. now i dont know but this seemed very fair to me see as the owner s could apply really really put soem money saving things into the deal in the final 3 years to make it so that the players would make there offer actually work. but no instead the jack ass jsut says no and walks away. it bullshit like that, which go the season canceled.
