DELETED SCENE: Dick's Pain

LOL! If this were characterized as a "CUT SCENE" I'd be LOLing even harder.

Oooooohhhh .... harder ... I made another pun on top of that.

on top of ... And another one right there.

I'm bringing tears to my own eyes here Shifty.

*sigh*

Okay ... now that's out of the way, this edit sounds really cool.
Yeah, I got a good laugh out of it too when the DVD specs were announced. That' actually the title of the deleted scene from the menu.

So are you going to be doing this project?

Here are some notes I made of how a fan edit may play out if anyone cares:

- Opening Warners Logo
- DELETED SCENE: Arkham Asylum/Two-Face's escape (with added music and sound effects)
- Bruce's inspection of Wayne Enterprise (cut some of Edward's Lines)
- Bruce sees the Bat signal, leaves, and uses the transportation device in his office that leads to the Batcave
- Opening Titles, the suiting up sequence, Chase's intro, Two-Face's intron, the Bank sequence, and Two-Face's getaway
- Edward murders Stickley and the next morning
- Edward's apartment scene & putting up riddle at Wayne Manor
- Bruce's meeting with Chase Meridian (breaking in her door, etc)
- The Circus sequence
- Dick arriving at Wayne Manor
- Bruce & Alfred talk about Bruce's guilt
- DELETED SCENE: Dick's Pain (possibly later in the film)
- The Bat signal, Batman meets Chase on the rooftop (replacing the Batmobile driving on walls scene)
- Two-Face's hideout and Riddler introduction (cut the previous scene where Edward is deciding what to call himself)
- The Washroom scene with Dick's kung-fu drying abilities (not necessary but it sets up his skills)
- DIck asking about the door/Batcave entrance
- Riddler & Two-Face's crime spree
- Dick breaks into the Batcave
- Bruce's second meeting with Chase (interrupted by Alfred's call)
- Dick's night out with the Batmobile
- Bruce and Dick discussing vengeance ("we're the same")
- The Ritz Gotham: Edward's unveiling of the new box, Bruce uses the box, and Two-Face crashes the party
- The sequence at the abandoned subway, Dick saving Bruce's life
- Bruce & Dick arguing in the Batcave
- DELETED/EXTENDED SCENE: Bruce's dilemma (recut with some of the material already in the film and cut some of the lame TV show)
- Baman going to Chase's apartment at night
- Riddler and Two-Face discover Bruce's secret
- Bruce shutting down the Batcave and telling Dick "Batman is no more"
- Bruce and Chase's date at Wayne Manor
- Riddler and Two-Face break in and blow up the Batcave, take Chase, and shoot Bruce
- Bruce wakes up
- Riddler and Chase ("Batman, coming for you?") and the new Bat signal
- DELETED SCENE: Secrets of the Batcave (with added music and sound effects)
- Bruce and Alfred solve the riddles
- And basically the rest of the film is as it is

This doesn't account for all the silliness in Tommy Lee Jones' and Jim Carrey's performances though.

I'd be interested in a fan edit too. I'm watching the film now and thinking of ways to edit it. Of course, I wouldn't be able to do it justice either.

Here are some notes:

- Keep the opening logo. Cut directly to the Arkham Asylum/Two-Face escape deleted scene. Add some music and sound effects. Cut to Bruce's visit to Wayne Enterprise and his meeting with Edward. Cut some of Carrey's goofiness - basically simple dialogue he says to himself. Bruce sees the bat signal, goes into his office, takes the ride to the Batcave, and then cut to the opening titles with the names, etc. flying around. This leads back into the original opening of the film. Cut some of Two-Face's stuff. I noticed he tends to emphasis his grunts, etc. Maybe these could be muted out? If possible, add a bit of the extended scene where Two-Face says Batman is a killer. This was important in the script (his guilt about his parent's death), but I don't know if it's necessary in the film.

Wanted: Batman DVD cover

I'm personally annoyed by the Batman Forever & Batman & Robin fonts since it seems to be on everything associated with Batman. It's not a terrible font, just overused.

I like the font chosen for the Batman Begins. It's definitely simple and in that regard, I think it's in constrast to the Batman Forever & Batman & Robin font which looks a little overdone IMHO. I've always had a problem with the Batman movie fonts. The original film's looks kinda lame and too 80's but the Batman Returns font isn't bad, just typical Times New Roman looking thing.

The Batman Begins font just seems classy to me. Not elaborate at all, and it reminds me of the original Alien movie font. Just clean cut and to the point.

Ideas & Info: 'a fistful of dollars' and 'for a few dollars more' special editions - and other rants about foreign releases...

THX, I might be missing something, but I think you may be a bit confused. The Japanese versions being mentioned aren't for the Sergio Leone westerns but rather the films of Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, etc.).

I know MGM was supposed to release the SEs of "A Fistful of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More" here in R1 but then MGM was bought out by Sony. No word on whether we'll be getting them.

And I think the reason the edits feel to you like they cut in the middle of a scene, is because they do. This happens with the theatrical cut of every film. It's called editing. We just don't realize it because we haven't seen the entire scene, we see the parts the director wants us to see. You've watched the Star Wars saga a million times and you've gotten used to the flow of the George Lucas version. I don't think that fact can be used in criticism of ADigitalMan's editing skills or whether or not his edit of the film is good.
I went back and looked at the scene again. It's not as abrupt of a cut as I remembered it. My rational thought was that considering how into politics Padme was (she was questioning him about his views a few seconds earlier), she wouldn't let it stand and there'd be some attempt on her part to interrogate him further, etc. The cut just kinda left it too open.

I also remember a much more awkward cut in this edit . It's the inclusion of the Padme's bedroom scene. Basically she's telling the story of the alien kids. It ends with her saying, "They all died" and then it immediately cuts to blaring triumphant music and Obi-Wan coming out of lightspeed. It just needed an extra beat in there. It needs more room to breathe. We're hearing a pretty emotional story and then suddenly it's forgotten about with a pretty upbeat music cue. I thought it was actually a fairly unintentionally funny moment. It reminds me of one of those "Walker, Texas Ranger" clips that Conan O'Brien used to have on his show. Basically, a very young Haley Joel Osment is talking to Wilford Brimley in good spirits explaining his nickname, saying stuff like "It means 'little friend' in Cherokee!" Very suddenly he looks up and says "Walker tells me I have AIDS." and the clip just cuts and the audience it left going "WHA?!"

Anyway, I just wanted to make it clear that I didn't bring this up to deride ADigitalMan's edit. It's a solid piece of work. It's my favorite fan edit of AOTC. There are just a few beats that felt off to me.
