"Troy" Re-Cut (Released)
Time
The writer of Kingdom of Heaven self-proclaimed the magnificent directors cut to be the most historically accurate movie ever made. I think i might agree with him.
With the exception that the main character basically takes the name and famous deed of a historical figure and makes up everything else about him. And they fabricate a love story between him and the Queen. Not that I'm complaining. The fictional parts makes for a much more interesting movie!

I think the filmmakers made the right decision to not include the Gods. After all, how do you visualize Gods? Do they have blue glows surrounding them? Are they done as a P.O.V. type of thing where you see them in one shot guiding Paris' arrow and then cut to another shot and they're gone? Are they just a bunch of guys floating around on clouds? I can't really visualize the Gods in any way that doesn't scream out "Hallmark TV movie of the month."

When I saw the movie, I went into it thinking of what the filmmakers were going for, which I think was to show a possible backstory to the myth that would've later become the Illiad. In many ways, it demystifies the legend and brings it down to a more human level, and at the same time the filmmakers were making a throwback to the classic sword and sandal epics.

I think this edit could be interesting as I mentioned, but from my point of view, the Trojans were the good guys of the story as opposed to the Greeks. This edit takes the opposite point of view and does so by dehumanizing the Trojans and glorifying (by cutting acts of barabarism) the Greeks. I guess the arc, as forced as it may have been, for the character of Achilles was to show him as a brute and monster, and then bring the character to a point where he is a member of society with a full range of emotions (which ultimately leads to his downfall).

Is the Gabriel Yared score available anywhere in its full form? I knew some excerpts were posted to his website.

Cool idea. Haven't seen an edit of Troy attempted before. I've only seen this once in theaters and kinda enjoyed it for what it was, but I haven't had the desire to watch it since. Anyway, the three best things about this movie can be expressed by the following names. Eric Bana, Peter O'Toole, and Sean Bean. Sounds like you'll be cutting many of the things I like about the film, but it seems like an interesting take on the material.

In AOTC, Yoda turns his eyes to look at something. In ESB, Yoda turns his entire face and/or body to look at something!
I think this one was due to the fact that the eyes on the ESB Yoda puppet couldn't move.

I never understood why this was a problem. He never did own a droid. Maybe if he said, "Funny, I don't remember any droids." I don't believe he ever says he doesn't remember the droids.

The thing about movies: top billing goes to the biggest name actor. I know it annoys the hell out of me to see Liv Tyler get billing over Viggo in LOTR, but that's how it is.

Prior to opening that thread, I actually thought people were bitching about HBO showing a cropped version of ROTS in HD.

Needless to say, I really like the movie. It's definitely flawed, but I don't really mind most of these points of contention that many of you bring up.

The thing I hated the most out of Revenge of the Sith is the opening sequence on board the ship. When I saw the film for the first time, there was something about the sequence that irked me. I couldn't really place it, but now I think it's R2's fault. Lucas's desire to put some more family-friendly material really slows down the sequence in the movie. While I was listening to the commentary, I was surprised that Rick McCallum actually fought to have all the R2 stuff removed. Unfortunately, Rick ends up saying something to the effect of "Good thing George kept it! He's a genius!"

I don't mind Hayden's acting at all. He seems to come from a different school of drama than we're usually used to. It's something I've also noticed in fellow actor James Franco (Harry in the Spidey films). They seem to come from a place that's more emotional. There's a level of amplified emotions in their performances. When they cry, they sob. It can seem more forced, but it's also rawer. I'm probably not explaining this well at all, but when I see Hayden delivering a line, it doesn't seem wrong to me. But perhaps I'm just more forgiving in the field of acting than others. I admire a great performance, but personally, all I look for is whether I can believe the actor in the part. When I see Hayden, he looks like Anakin. When I hear him speak, it fits the character.

Why the PT fans love the PT so much, not as diehard as we think
Time
I've spent very little time around TFN, so I don't know how far some of these prequel lovers go, but I personally don't have much disdain for the films. Hell, I'd rather defend them than deride them. No matter how "bad" things get in the PT, they're certainly not as bad as the exaggerated awfulness that PT bashers insist on. Heck, the way I see it, all the bashing makes me much more tolerant of the PT. But that's my point of view.

I don't think any of the PT films are necessarily bad. The Phantom Menace is rather dull at times, but if one manages to stay awake, it is refreshing to see a movie that takes its time to move at a more leisurely pace. I was watching the movie about two years back and I was surprised by the opulence of it all. When I saw Attack of the Clones in theaters, I found it to be an entertaining movie. With other viewings, it's revealed many of its flaws. And while I like it better than The Phantom Menace, I find it strangely more imperfect. I happen to love Revenge of the Sith. I love that mood of dread that's in the air throughout the film. It's like you're falling deeper and deeper into hell and no matter what you do, you can't get out of it. Unfortunately, it does make a fair share of missteps. The opening part of the film on the ship feels like a mess and other minor hiccups occur along the way, but in the end, I think it's a great film and a terrific addition to the series.

I love Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back though I will confess that A New Hope feels a little duller than I remember it, but it's still a great film. Empire is my favorite and it always had. Return of the Jedi hasn't stood up well much in my opinion. As a kid, I was always turned off by Jabba and his pals, but it made for an enjoyable sequence. It's still entertaining, but it feels much lazier than ever before. In the end, the movie's biggest and perhaps its only strength is the Luke/Vader relationship.

i've just been watching it on FX
Would be much easier with the other Batman flicks since Batman Begins is fairly light on the action and can be fairly heavy handed.

Idea: Spider-man - Pre-9/11 cut & No-organics cut
Time
The intention for the webshooters in the film was to have them simply to help Peter guide/aim his webbing. They would've still been organic. As a result, they were deemed unnecessary and cut from the movie. They were pretty cool though. I recall one of the first downloads available on Sony's Spider-Man website was a webshooter screensaver. The screensaver itself was fairly diappointing though. It didn't really do much.

The DVD has a blooper reel on the second disc which features some deleted footage as well as some on the set flubs and gags.

I use it sometimes as well. What I like about it is the accurate chapters. The final product has chapters exactly where you put them. DVD-Lab Pro, while is has frame indexing that's supposed to give you accurate chapters, still ends up a bit off. Quite annoying, actually. Especially if you're a perfectionist. But I still use DVD-Lab Pro for its flexibility with menus. Maybe I'm missing something, but TMPGEnc DVD Author only allows you to use buttons for linking and already determines for you what exactly you can link to. It also doesn't support subtitles.

King Kong: The Shorter Version (Released)

One article made it sound as if Jackson turned in a cut of the film at its current length, and the studio basically thought it was good enough so they didn't bother shortneing. PJ's own comments are that they wrote a two hour script and ended up with about 4 hours worth of material.
