Anyone got the original 'theatrical' release of TPM or AOTC?

LOL....yet another instance where anything that could help make sense of the story is cut. Thank God we got a longer taxi and pod-race sequence, though.
Actually, this is an addition, not a cut.

I guess there could be some advertising like TV spots done, but I don't really expect much. Maybe I just don't watch as much TV as I used to, but I don't usual see many TV spots for re-releases and special editions of older movies.

FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!

I thought the theatrical version of DD was entertaining enough. The Director's Cut is a better film, but I feel perhaps a bit too much was added back into the movie. The DC is pretty long. Anyway, if you hated some of the cornier moments (seesaw fight), they're still there. Just an improved narrative.

I did an edit of DD which basically trimmed the DC for pacing, but I still recognize some of the corniness, etc. I don't have much of a problem with it, but maybe someone can salvage it.

OOT DVDs - interlaced or progressive?
Time
I think most would be surprised by the number of movies that are compressed to fit onto a single layer even today. It was fairly common practice in the early years of DVD, but even today, Sony, most notably, crams its movies onto a single layer (extras occupy the other layer) for their standard releases just so they can release a "high-quality" Superbit edition later.

Why not? I've seen it done seamlessly, such as with the new cut of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", for example.
I don't think the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a good example. I didn't mind Clint's voice, but Eli Wallach sounds completely different. In the original, he has a gruff sounding voice whereas his new lines sound more like Winnie the Pooh.

New director what do you think ?
Time
There have been rumors of other directors being offered the PT. I've heard Spielberg, Darabont, and other names mentioned before, but there's only one name that I know of that's actually stated that he was approached to do it. In his introduction to the book "The Cinema of George Lucas," Ron Howard revealed that Lucas approached him, but Howard wanted Lucas to get back to directing, so he declined and encouraged Lucas to direct it instead. Lucas has said that he originally intended to only direct Episode I and hire other directors to do the other two.

If they went to the trouble of making a DVD transfer, I can't see why they wouldn't make it anamorphic. The movie was first released on DVD in 2000 and they definitely knew about 16x9 enhancement at the time.

I believe the official line was that Fox wanted to make a new transfer of The Abyss, but James Cameron declined and said the current one (presumably from the LD) was fine. Actually, this happened again with the Alien Quadrilogy set. Fox did new transfers of every film except Aliens because Cameron said he was happy with the old, grainy transfer from the first DVD release (which was anamorphic by the way).

Actually, a LD transfer doesn't mean it will look that bad. The current edition of George Stevens' Giant is taken from the laserdisc and it looks pretty decent. The main problem with it is that there was some really dreadful edge enhancement added to it. I'm hoping the source Lucasfilm is using for SW is one before they applied filters, etc. to it.

Fox France confirms the French OOT release >NOT< to be anamorphic

Does Lucas even know what we'll be getting in September?

Sure, he knows they'll be coming, but he doesn't really strike me as a very hands on kind of guy in this type of thing. Could it be possible that someone in the home video division of Lucasfilm convinced him to release the OOT on DVD and said they could simply use the LD masters, with little additional cost. Lucas could've simply approved and washed his hand of the matter without seeing the transfer, etc. When told of the anamorphic situation, maybe he just shrugged (as opposed to laughing maniacally while throwing the last prints of the OOT into the fireplace).
