Ralph McQuarrie book?
Time
I have Empire Strikes Back sketchbook by Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston & Nilo Rodis-Jamero. It came out in '79, I think:

"Incredible Original Drawings From The New Chapter In The Greatest Space Fantasy Of All Time"

It's kind of cool, some of them have a stamp with "Wonderful" on them. I'm guessing these were approved by Lucas for Empire.

I can maybe scan some of the art if you really want it.

Do you think Georges Lucas reads this forum ?
Time
I would say he doesn't. There are hundreds of Star Wars sites, if not thousands, and I'm sure he doesn't need to surf the web to know people want the original trilogy.

I think his excuse is bunk for not releasing them. He'd make his money back on restoring them. I just feel like he wants them to be forgotten because the new trilogy is what he's wanted all along, just the technology wasn't there.

I bought his so called original trilogy for $49.00. I don't feel the least bit bad about owning bootlegs because I didn't get what I paid for. In my view, his decision has forced people to bootleg his product. In the end, though, he'll probably release them so people pay double the price since they weren't given the choice when he first released them on DVD.

There from an early 90's VHS release of the Star Wars trilogy. I'm actually surprised no one has pointed this out yet.

If you're interested I can do a pure scan of them untouched. Of course, I had to work with the dimensions to get them to fit a standard DVD case.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF GEORGE LUCAS
Time
I was hoping to see a MAD magazine with ALL of their Star Wars spoofs over the years, meaning from '77-'05. I think that would of been worth getting, too.

The mag is only $3.99 with the Lucas bit. That, or I can scan copies for anyone who might like it. I had to compress the image to meet the standards of site.

My bandwidth is holding up, 79MB out of 100. Let's just hope it makes it till 12:00am.

I especially like 6:54pm "Approve a Few New Star War Licensees and Products." You have the "R2-D2 Shop-Vac" and with Yoda on the front of "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" style tub, except it reads "Believe Not I Can That Butter Is Not," or how about "Hoth Pockets" instead of "Hot Pockets."

These photos have limited bandwidth by day. I just hope it holds up each day so people can see them. If not, try the next day, they're worth it. If anyone knows of a better place to host them, please let me know.

I'm glad you like it. Maybe I'll scan more once this has run its course.

Which of the 6 films is your favorite?
Time
The Empire Strikes Back, of course!

I can't remember where I heard it, but Ben Burtt said that most people were not impressed and disappointed with Empire. Over the years, though, most people fell in love with it and said it's the best out of the three. Maybe it wasn't loved at first because it wasn't as action oriented as Star Wars?

I love it because of the emotion with Yoda, Vader's reveal to Luke, the scenes in the astroid field and on Hoth, Boba Fett, and the towards the end it was SO VERY suspenseful. Overall it captured the most emotion, I think.

ROTS: The Child Birth Scene and Sidious Motives? <em>SPOILERS</em>

Hmmm. I didn't think about that, his choices were to have power through out the gallaxy, or just wander the gallaxy as powerless freak full of sorrow. Having his new place of power would maybe at least balanced his sorrow. Thanks for shedding some light on the situation, makes sense.

I guess my opinion of how it should of been is just another Star Wars geek's opinion, unless its flawed somehow. I'm just stuck on my idea of how it should of been, but with the prequels you have to think everything out and how it would affect the future. In my teen years, my most obessed Star Wars years, I'd be able to hang ... but now that I'm older I just don't have the strength.

Dark Lord Sidious explained that his teacher was so strong with the dark side of the force, he had the ability to foresee and protect his loved ones from that danger. Script wise and from Sidious' point of view, why not just tell Darth Vader she died in child birth, not the whole greif thing, or that he had killed her. It seems he would of had more anger towards Obi-wan (and the good side of the force) for interfereing and preventing him from saving her life. The new Darth would of felt more remorse, helplessness and anger not being able to protect her with his new sith powers. It would of further strengthened his belief that the dark side of the force was stronger and could of prevented her death, of course this is what Dark Lord Sidious convinced him of.

So what do you think of it?

Would it create any plot holes or inconsistency?

I still don't like how she died or Sidious telling Darth Vader that he killed her. Maybe you can help me stop obsessing over this part.

Talking about pirated copies, already!

I passed by a guy selling them out of the trunk of his car downtown for $10. They had the covers, looked good on the outside with the movie poster as the front, everything else was black, no back cover. I'm sure his copy was taken with a home video camera, though ... most are.

ROTS: The Child Birth Scene and Sidious Motives? <em>SPOILERS</em>

Wouldn't that make you depsise the dark side that much more? If accepting the dark side of the force allowed his anger to swell so much that he killed the love of his life, why would he continue down that path? Did the dark side cloud his mind that much that he didn't realize what he was doing?

I don't know if I like that. It makes it seem like he has no control, that Darth Vader is a mindless entity controlled only by the dark side, unable to have any control over his own thoughts and emotions.

ROTS: The Child Birth Scene and Sidious Motives? <em>SPOILERS</em>

Did she die from grief, or was it actual complications from the birth?

Why tell Darth Vader he killed her, what was Dark Lord Sidious’ motives, here?

Dark Lord Sidious explained that his teacher was so strong with the dark side of the force, he had the ability to foresee and protect his loved ones from that danger. Script wise and from Sidious’ point of view, why not just tell Darth Vader she died in child birth, not the whole greif thing, or that he had killed her. It would of further strengthened his belief that the dark side of the force was stronger and could of prevented her death, of course this is what Dark Lord Sidious convinced him of.

Maybe it was done the way it was to prove that the dark side leads to anger, anger that resulted in the love of his life being killed by his own hands, which ultimately was the reason he went back to the good side of the force. He realized his choice caused her death?

Anyone have opinions?

My review of Episode III (minor, minor spoilers)
Time
I liked the movie overall, easily the best out of the three. I just felt like so much was squeezed into this last movie, everything happened so quickly. I felt like episode II could of taken on some of this story and explained things in more detail. I've always felt that we never really got to know the characters as much as we could of, especially Anakin. The story is what makes a movie, not CGI effects and pointless battle scenes. I think the average story and poor dialogue have hurt the movies through out. I don't know if Lucas' ego was in the way, or his attitude was they're MINE only, I will write and direct them myself. He should of hired other writers to help him with his scripts, telling him what's pure cheese and just simply giving him better ideas and dialogue. He's nothing but a cognitive creator with a good imagination, but can hardly direct and definitely could not write himself out of a wet paper bag. Don't get me started on Midi-chlorians ...

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

A few things that bothred me:

Dark Lord Sidious explained that his teacher was so strong with the dark side of the force, he had the ability foresee and protect his loved ones from that danger. Which kind of leads me to my point, just tell Darth Vader she died in child birth, not the whole greif thing, or that he had killed her. That way, he would of had more anger towards Obi-wan (and the good side of the force) for interfereing and preventing him from saving her life. The new Darth would of felt more remorse, helplessness and anger not being able to protect her with his new sith powers. It would of further strengthened his belief that the dark side of the force was stronger and could of prevented her death. Maybe it was done the way it was to prove that the dark side leads to anger, anger that resulted in the love of his life being killed by his own hands, which ultimately was the reason he went back to the good side of the force. He realized his choice caused her death?

I liked the first breath you hear from Darth, pretty cool. I heard a few snickers in the audience when Darth was released from the table he was being worked on, his frankstein like walk looked odd, but I can understand him getting use to his new legs. His enraged, "NOOOO" was a little corny, not the cool and calm Darth I'm use to, but I guess that could be explained because of his rage, maybe his age? I guess I just wanted more Darth overall at the end, or at least more dialogue between him and Sidious about the new Death Star.

By the way, does it take 30 years to construct a Death Star? From Star Wars to Jedi, I don't think it was a 30 year difference. Star Wars reffered to the Death Star as being a new threat, if I'm not mistaken.

Unfortunately I think the legacy of these prequels will be:

Good, but not great, they could of been better.

Maybe over the years we've become desensitized. When Star Wars and the rest of the trilogy was released in the late 70's early 80's there was nothing like it. Now we see these kind of effects over and over ... and overdone. But in the end, I think a weak story and poor dialouge is what truly hurt these movies.

By the way, did anyone get a little magazine called "Flick" with their tickets? Once you open the first page it gives you a URL called: ThankyouGeorge.com I'll thank him for the OT then thank him for a "nice try" on the prequels.

Info Wanted: Anyone Seen this AWESOME Lightsaber@Spencer gifts?
Time

I saw the best looking Star Wars Lightsaber today at the mall. It was at Spencer gifts for $99.99. It was nice, heavy and quite sturdy. What was cool was the “woosh” kind of noise a lightsaber makes when it comes on. Also, when you turn it on, using a switch on the handle, it lights up from the bottom to the top. A random guy I was talking to said it looks real in the dark because you can’t see the tubing.

Anyway, I’m just wondring if anyone knows what I’m talking about. I’d like to find one on-line if possible. Any URL would be sweet because I forgot to write down who makes it.

Thank you.
