Jar Jar never looked so good!
Thanks for the news, the samples already look amazing.

Talking about Mace Windu on Geonosis: In the scene when he goes straight to the balcony where Dooku and Fett are standing on, there always seemed to be something off with Windu in the shot where we see him from behind. Maybe my eyes are tricking me, but I just noticed recently that Windu may seem to be CGI. It’s just the way he looks and moves.
Maybe he should have represent a young version of or a possessed person by Palpatine, before McDiarmid said he would be on board for Episode 9.
Michael Fastbender as a young Palpatine
Definitely him, but only as a new character.
Still no love for OT Aliens.
I don’t know if I should be happy about this. The last thing further SW movies need is the “Marvel flavour”. It already killed 7, 8 and Solo for me. At least we can all agree that he would respect old characters more than Johnson/Kennedy did.
Seeing that Jar Jar / Boss Nass screenshot, I’m afraid of seeing a 4k version of TPM. Some CGI shots didn’t aged well.
I made different experiences, up until now. People I know, family members and friends are always calling the movies by their episode titles when they talk about the Star Wars saga films. Not “The Empire Strikes Back”, not “the third movie from the Prequels”, … they call them Episode 1 - 8 (9). So from a marketing point of view, it would have been consequent to finish the Skywalker saga with episode titles and let them stand as what they are: one big story about the Skywalker family. Besides that, it sounds more like a drama or a poem. And to me, that was the origin of Star Wars.
Is “Empire of Dreams” in HD? I heard the rumor that they remastered the original documentary one or two years go. Would be interesting to know if they now offer that version on Disney+ .
Does the behind the scenes footage look restored to anyone else?
And a pro SE crank in the chat already…
Yes, looks that way to me, too. And there are certain BTS scenes I never saw before. And I saw A LOT.
A few months ago there were rumors that Lucasfilm was digging in their archives to preserve a lot of material. I think this footage they are showing right now is a big indicator that those rumors were true.
“Guests include: … Marcia Lucas”
Holy mother of God!
Take your time! It’s already awesome that this movie is getting scanned and - at long last - I’m going to see the true theatrical release with its correct colors. I don’t care what others say, but TPM is my favourite PT movie, and one of my favourite SW films right after the OT. I connect with so many great memories when the film was released in 1999. And it is the only PT movie that actually LOOKS like a movie (reason: recorded on film print 😃) Most of the effects aged very well. Especially in comparison with AOTC and ROTS.
