Also, if you Spaced Ranger or anyone else is willing to give the 16mm footage a shot with your methods, let me know and I'll send it to you, all help is appreciated. The work on the LD is taking all my time at the moment.
I don't think i should try (not right now anyways) because i have enough projects I'm working on but I am curious: How large is the file size, is it lagarith avi? Frame size? Frame rate? What color space?
You could try LAB or XYZ for color correcting that 16mm footage, might come in handy. :)

By the way, I'm going a step further for my own viewing copy (premiering this weekend!) I''m trying to recreate the experience of seeing the movie theatrically in the UK in 1979, so I've pulled together a bunch of ads, contemporary trailers, and an old Dolby trailer to put at the start. Oh, and this too:
Awesome! Is that logo your work? I was looking around for one of those after it was mentioned in this thread but wasn't sure what they look like since i'm in Canada. That is what it would have looked like back in the day? What trailers are you using?
And thank you msycamore. :)
^ Doesn't it though? ;)
Didn't Ridley say in an interview that when he was making alien he wanted screens that "we're wafer thin, and would just float there" and continues with something like "of course today we have stuff just like that, but we couldn't do it then"? Or maybe that's just what he imagined would happen. Not sure, i think it's on the collectors dvd. He's smoking a big cigar in the interview, i know that much.
Yes, in that scene alot of the flame debris crashing down on the surface is much different than the earlier version, stuff like that. It's pretty fascinating to see this.
Wow! good eye ;)
The skin of the ship looks more organic now though, doesn't it? Or maybe it just looks that way because of the color timing.
Noticed something about the ship while watching the different versions of the trailers.

If possible, I think every time the scene cuts to Obi-Wan drinking his Romulan ale, an additional empty shot glass (or two or three) should be added to the bar.
+1
Maybe you could have the speeder stall when Anakin jumps in and goes to start it.

...I'm putting so much grain and craziness over that video that I don't think it'll make a huge difference...
Yay for grain!
